I would like to know if your map were using the same datum WGS84 as Google Earth. Did you considered it?
Earthexplorer usgs.gov is global colection with all kinds of maps sat airial photo,lidar much more
All that time and you skipped the last/most important step of exporting a now geo referenced map! I can do what you did here, in photoshop in about 60 seconds.
