Yes I am a Google Sheet user which is really is an excellent basic spread Sheet programme however, backing up your spreadsheets is limited to the Google online service and as I have found to my horror I have lost data or my Google Sheet has disappeared. This came about when Google prompted me to deletes files to clear for storage. Which I did, however I didn't realise at the time I was deleting a Google Sheet with a year's record of our family finances. A year's work gone and unable to retrive. So here I am learning how to Use Apples number programme so I am able to have options for backing up a new Spread Sheet off line.
To insert a page break in Apple Numbers, you can either: Choose a row or column to insert a page break, and use the formatting tool to insert the page break. Place vertical and horizontal 'guide lines' in the document showing where the break will happen. In the View menu, choose Show Rulers. 0 on the rulers is the top left corner of the printed area of Page
Totally enjoyed your presentation! My need is I'm leaving Filemaker behind, too costly. I need to make a spread sheet from an imported CSV file from my Bank and one for my Credit Card co to keep track of my finances. I've managed to do this but wonder if there's a more efficient way of doing it. A future tutorial would be great. Don't know why but having trouble coloring every other row. My transactions are so many it's difficult to follow all the categories across in the header column Thanks
Thank you for your content. How do you write txt in the boxes and move down within the box for more txt? Every time I click return to move txt inside the box it takes me to another box instead of staying in the same box for more txt. Thanks
Numbers is fine as long as you don’t plan to share the files with others, especially when there are formulas. Opening Numbers files in other spreadsheet programs like Excel and Google Sheets will eventually cause problems. The danger is the problem may not be apparent until later. When you share spreadsheets with important data like financial information, stick with one program and make it consistent.
Hi Adam, I created a calendar using the calendar template from Numbers. The format looked like it was horizontal but it seems you can change it to any dimensions. So I made a horizontal dimension with a lot of space in the cells so I created a more horizontal format but when I tried to export to a PDF it broke the calendar into 3 parts so that each page of the PDF only had 1/3 of the calendar. Is there anyway to fix this calendar so it will print all in one page?
To adjust the size of a checkbox in Apple Numbers, follow these steps: Cell Formatted Checkbox: If you’re using a cell formatted as a checkbox, the size is fixed. You can’t directly change it. However, you can resize the checkbox by adjusting the font size of the cell. To do this: Select the cell with the checkbox. Go to Format > Font > Bigger (or use the shortcut ⌘+). Note that this will also affect the font size of other content in the cell. Character Viewer Checkbox: If you inserted a checkbox character from the Character Viewer (display-only), you can resize it: Insert the checkbox character into a cell. Open the Text Inspector (⌘+T). Change the point size to resize the checkbox. Remember, if you want the checkboxes to be active (i.e., toggleable), use the checkbox data format. The ballot box characters are for display purposes only1. Hope this helps!
Apple Numbers provides some security features to protect your spreadsheets and data. Here are some aspects of its security: Password Protection: You can assign a password to a Numbers spreadsheet on your Mac. This ensures that only those who know the password can open the spreadsheet. Passwords can consist of almost any combination of numbers, uppercase or lowercase letters, and special keyboard characters. If you forget your password, there’s no way to recover it, so be sure to choose a password you won’t forget or write it down in a safe place. Touch ID Integration: If your Mac has Touch ID (fingerprint detection), you can use it to open your password-protected spreadsheets with your fingerprint alone. Version-Specific Passwords: If you add a password to a spreadsheet or change an existing password, it applies only to that version of the spreadsheet and subsequent versions. To prevent others from restoring an unprotected version of the spreadsheet or an older password version, stop sharing the spreadsheet, add a unique password, and then share it again. Integration with Apple Devices: One of the biggest advantages of using Apple Numbers as an Apple-exclusive user is its integration with other Apple devices. Whether you’re moving between iPad, Mac, iPhone, or the web, your documents are accessible and secure as long as you save them to iCloud. Additionally, it’s worth noting that Apple takes security seriously across its ecosystem. For example, when it comes to Apple Pay, the Device Account Number (used for transactions) is never stored on Apple’s servers, isn’t backed up to iCloud, and is isolated from the actual operating system of your device. Apple also doesn’t store or have access to the original card numbers when they’re added to Apple Pay. Remember to keep your passwords secure and choose strong ones to protect your data!
Why do some functions work on desktop Mac version but not loading numbers from iCloud? I notice things I can’t do on the iCloud version. In fact I hate working through iCloud version of numbers. Can’t save actual numbers file to where I want, so best to load and run from inbuilt app on the mac.
I just lost 5 days work in Excel. I am here to learn Numbers --it seems safer. One question. Can I save a Numbers file so my accountant can open it in Excel?
To save a Numbers file as an Excel file, you need to: Open the Numbers document you want to export. Click on the "More" button or the "Numbers" heading in the top-left corner of the Mac menu bar. Select "Export To". Click "Excel". Enter a name for your file.

Hi. How can I some online information such as sport results to Numbers? Let's say soccer results. And I want to Numbers update the results every weekend. Excel does that but don't have it, don't want to use it.TIA!
heaven knows. Or the sales data. I think this might be part of a course where people were provided demo files. I'm finding this whole video confusing and all over the place, with advanced stuff I'll never use while figuring out basics myself in long pauses. Thank heavens I've been using Mac and Excel for decades so I've got some idea what it ought to do.
- I found this fairly confusing especially in the first 30 minutes- maybe it was part of a course where people were given demo files to match the ones he uses. A lot of information skimmed over quickly in a rather random order. Seems to be aimed at preparing a presentation or illustrated brochure rather than a spreadsheet. Presents some complex/advanced topics eg pivot tables and how to make charts very quickly. Probably would need a whole video on them, rather than the few seconds 'it happens by magic' here. Hard to keep track of his tiny cursor so allow many hours to follow the vid/flip back to your screen for your own sheets.
Fyi...break this down into specific tutorials. Easier for searching an issue....this video is pretty much overload. Nice voice and easy to listen to but IN THE WEEDS
Am finding this very confusing, as he jumps all over instead of focusing an in-depth tutorial of each template, but one at a time. And he goes fast, so I have to pause multiple times to take notes and study what he did. He keeps mentioning topics I want to learn, but then says that he'll 'go over it later.' I do NOT like it when instructors do that, b/c they almost never actually return to the topic!!! Anyway, I am slogging through it but it's confusing and frustrating, imho.
Thank you so much brother, I'm a Google Sheet user, but Apple Numbers is so easy and minimalist. Again, thanks for the helpful tutorial.
Happy to help!
