I'm waiting for the calendar :-) I'm sorry, Mynda, but this solution with SCAN (LAMBDA, IF etc.) doesn't look good to me. The Focus Cell is fine and I'm grateful for the integration of regular expressions. (Too bad the IMAGE function can't work with local files.)
Thankyou for sharing these tips. I loved the check box and Focus feature they have included. I am watching your videos and learning a lot. I use it for work.
Thank you for this summary video. The focus cell functionality was new to us. The checkboxes are such a godsend. We just used them in a deliverable for a client, and they were blown away. Keep up the good work!
Hello Mynda, for most of the year 2024, I was learning VBA, DAX and MCode so I missed lots of Excel Worksheet Formulas Updates, but You gave me a nice review. Thanks a lot for your training contribution. Have a nice EXCEL&PowerBI Year 2025😃😃😃😆😆😆!
Thanks for the updates. Wouldn't it just be easier to use IF(C4="","",SUM($C$4:C4)) instead of Scan, Lamda and Trim? Trim still references the full range created.
@@sco0tpa I see your point and Steve's point. However, in my opinion the issue with this example is that: Beginners cannot benefit from it because this is too complex for them and, more importantly, unless they come across another video, they will think you need SCAN to solve a simple problem like this. Intermediate know an alternative way of doing it and think SCAN is not needed. Advanced know that SCAN can do more than this but yet this example does not show a real problem where SCAN is the best option
1:50 You don't need to do COUNTIF, since TRUE/FALSE behaves like 1/0 when used in a calculation. Just use the old -- trick to force a calculation and sum the result, like so: =SUM(--C7:C18)
@@00oxymore It just does a negative of a negative, so returns the same number. But because it's a calculation, it also converts FALSE to 0 and TRUE to (-1 and then to) 1.
I appreciate you were trying to just give a simple example of SCAN which I know can do much more powerful things, but I think IF(C5"",SUM($C$5:C5),"") would be much easier in that example.
This is OT, but do any of you have any idea why "get data from the web" isn't available in Excel 365 for MacOS? I could've sworn it was an option in the past, but this morning I can't find it. TIA
Relative referencing. The copied formula was on column C, when she moved 1 column to the right & pasted the formula, the pasted formula also followed that 1 column move & updated itself.
There is a problem with Focus Cell. Frozen Panes automatically desactivates Focus Cell for the same sheet. MSFT is aware of the issue and is currently working on it. Otherwise, Focus Cell is quite an interesting tool. I must say.
Now that they've deigned to finally implement focus cell/rowcol highlight after years of requests, it looks like we'll finally get the dark mode in a few years as well /s And the speed with which they roll or these new functions in non-beta o365 is quite slow. I mean I still don't have the groupby functions available...
HAHAHAHAHA, a little ambitious with the tasks they need to do. I know exactly what you mean. 😂 I can see what the row of check boxes would look like for my daughter for 'load the dishwasher'. A row of no boxes checked for the entire week. Lol. 😁 🙄

I so much love this checkbox, will be used for my issue resolution. Many thanks for sharing and your knowledge transfer. 👏👌
Glad to hear it will be useful!
Happy New Year and thank you for the continued great content! Hope those new features will soon be released to the mortals!

Yes and what is worse, using the lambda function in Excel requires a developer's mindset. I doubt more than 0.001% of users will ever understand this.
But when doing a video to demonstrate what a function does, it's best to put it in a simple example that people can relate to.

Hi Mynda, Not sure if your teenagers appreciate your examples as much as I do, but they are absolutely fantastic. Thanks a bunch!
They are not liking the fact that I have a record of everything they have and haven’t done. No more arguing about who did which chore last 😅
@MyOnlineTrainingHub How do I install Copilot with office 365 home account.
Thank you very much for your detailed information. How realistic do you think it is to prepare and sell a template using Excel?
There are plenty of people selling templates on Etsy.
Many thanks for your great videos👍
Glad you like them!
Thanks Mynda! The focus cell and TRIMRANGE are big deals.
Two of my favourites too 😁
Hi Mynda, I just had a look at your excel course. Do you also teach how to create dashboards?
Yes I do! You can find it here: www.myonlinetraininghub.com/excel-dashboard-course
Thank you for this video!!!
I really love the focus function, I used to code VBA for this 😂😂😂
😁 glad to hear you’re saving some time and not needing VBA!
great as always...

Thanks, appreciate your support!
Which office version are you using. Is it available in MS Office 2021 or 2019?
I’m using 365. These are new features that are only available in 365.
Excellent
Thank you so much 😀
How do I get the Copilot icon in home?
Focus Cell.... YEAH!! I really need this one that's NOT a macro... not allowed to use macros at work... even this simple one..
Glad to hear you’re liking the focus cell feature!
RESPECT!!!
Thank you!
how does one get the updated excel features? Do i need to buy another version??
You need a Microsoft 365 license to get access to new features as they’re released.
Excellent trim range example using a shortened formula with a '.' thanks Paul
Glad you liked it, Paul.
I appreciate you were trying to just give a simple example of SCAN which I know can do much more powerful things, but I think IF(C5"",SUM($C$5:C5),"") would be much easier in that example.
Thanks for sharing an alternative.
I really like the focus cell…..but it clears when I click on another program. Any ideas to make it stick until I choose another cell on the sheet?
Not possible. It’s one of those annoying limitations.
This is OT, but do any of you have any idea why "get data from the web" isn't available in Excel 365 for MacOS? I could've sworn it was an option in the past, but this morning I can't find it. TIA
Power Query in Mac Excel doesn’t have all the connectors of the windows version yet.
@ thanks. I thought I was losing my mind. 😂 I even booted up my old Windows computer to make sure.
ISBLANK would have been faster than scan for the empty values tbh in the first simple example, but Trimrange looks useful to save file size.
Isblank wouldn't have demonstrated a new feature.
I don’t have checkbox in my Excel. Will it come in a future update?
Yes, if you have a 365 subscription you can update Excel to get the checkbox.
When you copy the formula for total checkboxes, how does the column change automatically from C to D?
Relative referencing.
The copied formula was on column C, when she moved 1 column to the right & pasted the formula, the pasted formula also followed that 1 column move & updated itself.
There is a problem with Focus Cell. Frozen Panes automatically desactivates Focus Cell for the same sheet. MSFT is aware of the issue and is currently working on it. Otherwise, Focus Cell is quite an interesting tool. I must say.
They’ve fixed the issue with freeze panes now.

And the speed with which they roll or these new functions in non-beta o365 is quite slow. I mean I still don't have the groupby functions available...
I agree, some of these features take forever to roll out, and functions are usually the slowest because they can’t change them once they’re released.
That's cool
Glad you like these new features.
Checkbox is not active. What to do ?
If you are using office 365, then update it else, you need office 365 to access checkbox ✅
2:23 Couldn't you also do a COUNTIF()?
Not if you want to demonstrate a new feature.
i still do not have the trimrange feature. cant wait for them to roll out this function to everyone
Yeah, it’s a game changer.
good luck with getting the kids to do the chores - if this works you need to do a whole video just on that
Thanks! If this works I reckon I could sell this as a template and retire 😅 I doubt it’ll be that easy though.
That's a crazy number of chores!

6:24 Or - You could just use tables and it will automatically fill down for you... 😉
Actually, running totals in tables are buggy unless you use a trick with the INDEX function.
I saved that to "Watch later" for when I am sober 🍷😀
