      Honest question: How much inspiration did Godot have on the UI? Looks just as clean

    • @roastB
      @roastB 3 месяца назад

      @@spectrecular9721 I actually don’t think I’d tried Godot back when I started making GB Studio (have now, love it!). UI was mostly influenced by design apps like Figma and Sketch, and the approach to making games was my based on my experiences using RPG Maker a long time ago

    Some things to mention as to why this update is important.
    - it takes advantage of the gameboy colors RAM allowing for double the details and tile mirroring for more additional details in gameboy color.
    - has a new seamless option which allows the game to load new backgrounds instantly using a common tileset that can be loaded into memory.
    - Better math function support.
    - automatic color png import meaning you can import in a colored background and the system will create a set of pallets automatically for the background.
    - debug headers can be enabled so you can see the values in real-time as you'll testing the game.
    - a more organized coding UI so its easier to grab the code you want easily.
    - animated tiles can now be done within the basic coding menu.
    Theres so many things that make this engine so nice to use. Its honestly a shock how this style of game editing hasn't taken off for other retro systems.

    To edit a sprite you need to specify the image editor in the settings. For example, I set it to Aseprite, so when I click that 'Edit Image' button, Aseprite opens up with the sprite already loaded. And when I'm done with editing and save, the sprite is then updated immediately within GB studio.

      you can switch between piano roll and tracker views, but yes only the piano roll view was showcased here.

    • @Swenglish
      @Swenglish 13 дней назад

      @@robotmeadows That's neat. As someone who finds pros and cons in both piano roll and tracker sequencing, I wish having both and being able to switch back and forth were more common in dedicated music software. Impressive that GB Studio would beat most DAW's to that kind of thinking, when it's not even primarily a music program.
