This reminds me of when my dad passed away, 1 day before he got sick he saved a woman from a car crash. I never realized how much of a great person my dad was, since he was strict, i only noticed why he was strict after he passed. He had a stroke, and most people die from this type of stroke in about 1-2 weeks. My dad was a fighter and he made it 7 weeks before he passed away. only at his funeral was when i realized how much he actually loved me and my brothers and sister. My mom told us how he left out on bills just to make us happy and get us things, and i feel so dumb to think that wasnt enough and that i needed more. Before he got sick, the morning i was going to school he told me if i wanted to play sports. I told him "i dont know if i will be that good". We had a conversation that I dont say to anyone. But everyday before a game i think of it and now im on the road to being a HOF Dtackle in my league.
what's good is, initially he is "a big man" saying I'm going to finish this... then when he realises it's his dad there beside him he returns to the child we all have inside us. we are always our parents children, even when parents ourselves.
As a father I can relate to the support that Derek's dad gave him. It's these gestures of human kindness that separate us from robots. A smile, a hug, a gift, a compliment, a silent blessing, some heartfelt thanks, a word of encouragement, a bit more support, a bit more friendship and we can give them every day to everybody that we can meet, we can change the world with these little acts of kindness, these little acts of caring, we can make the world a better place, we have that power within us always. I wish for you all peace, love and harmony. I love you xxx
Rebecca Hurst The first 8 of every competion receive an Olympic Certificate. His father robbed him of that. So, I agree with Rebecca Hurst. His father should have encouraged him on the field and not helped him on the track
***** I think, the father thought more of his son's well being first and foremost....so the olympic certificate was the last thing on his mind... Don't you think? :)
Regardless of what one may think, what is important to take from this is the BEST quality that we have as the human race: perseverance and hope. One other thing is we tend to focus oftentimes on the love of a mother which is inspiring, BEAUTIFUL and unique. However a fathers love is just as strong and unique in its on way. This here shows the support and strength a GOOD father gives his child when he feels at his most vulnerable point. Very touching video.
Forgetful Vlogger Thank you my friend. Peace and Strength to you and all that you wish to achieve in life. Embrace life to the fullest and be grateful for each and EVERY day. 😃
nothing is better than a strong family. for all the dad's who ran out on their kids watch and learn how it's done. I'm 43 my daughter is 10 and I will never leave her side until I die. me and my wife have been together since we where 14 years old we are now 43 and still going strong our daughter is 10. I know how this father felt. he was so proud of his son that day.
+genericname1 Actually, it's scientifically impossible to not have a father. I get what your saying, that you've never seen your father or heard from him, but your choice of words is incorrect.
***** Well then you're just being more incorrect.. If you have met him, and said you've never had a father, it literally just makes no sense at all. I mean, I was adopted from Russia by a single mother, so I really have no idea who my father is. It doesn't matter if he's a deadbeat dad, you still have a dad. I understand it's just a figure of speech to say you never had a father. But you could've just said you've never had a _real_ father. By the way it wasn't really funny. Especially in your predicament, this video and none of it's comments should be considered funny.
+Miguel Reyes I never had a father like this either. My father never faltered, never cried and did not break down in front of an adulating crowd...he saved his tears for his private moments. He would never have broken down like this...he was the bedrock in my life. I can honestly say the one and only time I EVER saw him wince and shed a single tear was on his deathbed,...and all he asked of me as the eldest son was to take care of my mother, my sisters and brother.
the gold medalist got their fifteen minutes of fame ... but you know who will be remembered forever? who will come to mind when you think of the four hundred meter dash at the summer Olympics in Barcelona? THIS GUY
giles166 Wtf she's not a bitch and clearly if something is negative that is stated somebody is going to say something so clearly if you are tired of "bitches being so righteous"then don't say nothing that's gonna make some one state something and clearly you need to shut the fuck up💁
Derek Redmond was badass!!!! He was part of the greatest 4x4 team ever when they beat the Americans in 1991. And then he did this. I felt terrible for him that he pulled his hamstring in one of the biggest races of his life, but this was a great olympic moment. Tom Hammond had a great call on NBC when he said "That is the Olympic spirit."
I watched this video a year ago, at that time, I thought this video was so touching and sad. Now that my dad has departed, it took all of 2 minuted to bring me to tears, of both jealousy and longing.
my dad died 5 years ago and im only 17 i still miss him loads and wish he was here to comfort me through the times of trouble so he can carry me and help to my finishing goals :(
The Olympics are brutal, because a person can spend their entire lives getting ready for something that's over in minutes. This athlete will always be remembered, not because he won a race but because he, with the help of his dad, won our hearts.
SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL & HEART WARMING. I WISH I HAD THAT CONNECTION WITH MY FATHER. I SALUTE YOU BOTH. AND THE SONG IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE OF ALL TIME. THANKS FOR THE ENCOURAGING WORDS DURING THE VIDEO. THEY ARE SO POWERFUL. THANKS FOR THIS POST.
the father bit done it for me, getting support from family is one of the most important things ever tbh and im so happy he has such a father to help support him :)
I know right??? My dad was my coach in all grade school sports like football basketball and baseball. Although he was no longer my coach after grade school he definitely made me feel like I had another pair of legs you know? You want to talk about a supportive father, he was it! He would make the biggest deals out of the smallest accomplishments. I'll never forget that. I miss him!
Cry? No. Sad? No. He lost a sporting competition because of a pulled hamstring. Emotional for him, yes. But nothing to actually "cry" over, or be "sad" about.
at the beginning i said to my self me CRY??? well before i even finished tears just flowed, this is so great to never give up and to have some one stand with you and believe in you, u r a great dad, and for u Derek u have made my day that i should never give up or feel sorry for my self, God bless you.
One of the finest examples of true familial love and support ever demonstrated. My hat's off in honor of your selfless action. The world is in serious need of others who have the desire to help better those who have yet to realize such nobility of heart and soul.
I have seen others edit this video, but urs is the best.. The song and the texts are used at the right place.. I wonder where those 5000 dislikes came in from, unless it was a virus
This video makes me cry because it reminds me so much of myself. I've had to go through so many struggles, where things seem to be impossible, and I start to give up. but my family has always been there to help me and they never let me give up
They deserved standing ovation. Imagine how many children are there in this world who never received their fathers' love and affection, and how many fathers would there be who never give love and affection to their son.... Inspiring video...
this is something people train 4 years for (sometimes longer), something that could happen once in your lifetime, people take a lot of time and effort and this is probably what they have dreamt of. trust me, if you were in a situation like this you would be silly to stop just to help someone. I know it's nice and you get respect for it, but they will get help anyway, and you would be putting an opportunity to waste. this isn't just about helping someone, it's much, much bigger than that.
Cristiano Ronaldo I forgot to mention, just think about why he was crying so much, not just because he was in pain, also because it meant so much to him.
insane sanity what reason do you have to say that? And how do you know exactly that I wouldn't? You don't know who I am, how I act, so why don't you shut the fuck up and learn how to not judge people before you know them, have a nice day
Inspiring Videos LOL wtf, it is not like that to grow your subscribers. NO, and u also have a link for donations?? lol why?? for what?? to make people cry??. LOL
Ronyalsha he might not be the best he probably doesn't know how to ask he meant if you subscribe you will get more videos to see how people do amazing stuff like that and maybe you can to.
Guys, whether you cried or not isn't the point. Stop fussing about how this video "is shit" or debating how "why he didn't stretch so properly" and etc. Like many commentors have stated, the Olympics is something you train YEARS for. And it only happens once a year, so you want to give it the best. How would you like it if you prepared Months, or Years, just for this 1 competition, to only stop by searing pain? Not a big deal, hmm. Talk to the people doing this. Sure, it may not seem like a big deal to you, but to the people playing in the Olympics, this means a lot, because they were chosen, and had to compete, for a spot on the 'team'. It's very painful to have to stop 150 meters in the race you've been practicing for, with over millions of people watching you. What's so bad about the security? Okay, yeah, work on holding back the crowd, but it's his dad. Wouldn't you feel better if you're in searing pain, and your family member(s) come to help you, in spite of the security? That's true love. So stop fussing about the video being shitty, or what he did before the race. Just be happy that he didn't quit, no matter what. And someone helped him. :-D
I agree with your first couple of sentences (did read the whole thing), just wanted to inform you that the Olympics are held every 4 years, or 2 depending on how you want to look at it.
WOW such a motivational father best father on the world he taught his on right this is so encouraging PAIN and i can't beeline he wouldn't give up "u donr have 2" Yes i do. TRUE WINNER OF STOPED AND H R LPED OR LET HIM EIN THE RACE SOMETHING TO REWARD BOTH OF THOSE ASTONISHING MEN REALL MEN
Taylor Anstrom the power of his father running to help him..the humanity that was surrounded by the man who had hurt himself but carried on regardless...that in itself should bring anyone to tears... and of course the song helped :) Humanity and kindness seems to lack in societies these days..so its nice to watch someone helping another...
Julie Hodgson My precious Pomeranian had to be put to sleep on 5/4 cuz of congestive heart failure and collapsed trachea and exactly one week later my Grandpa died. I don't think I will ever smile again.
aww... so sorry to hear that ...its awful when we lose our pets! you will smile again sweetie..but at the moment you probably won't feel like smiling ...

That shouldn't mean you should give up. Finish what you started. That is what good athletes do.

Watch WWYD Thats humanity this is less interesting.
Christian Wilson Well, I never watched the Olympics too much, just learn what I learn from my uncle. :-D
Thanks though, I'll keep that in mind.

I have seen this on several other sites, I cry every time. I really respect this young man and his dad.
Pretty much every video titled with "This will make you cry" is just looking for hits. I got suckered in by this one. lol
Lol so true!
