    we still haven't got rain, but maybe tonight, GOD willing.You're right the weeds kept the corn alive. They kept the soil cool and brought the moister from the humidity to the soil. amazing how GOD set things up. I have seen cash farmers cut a cover crop back and plant corn seed in the cover crop they just cut. I try to learn from everything that my FATHER shows me. You where just blessed.

    I'm between Tuscaloosa and Bessemer. My corn didn't do too good (similar to yours) but got some because I watered it when I could. Going to try a 2nd planting.

      Hey neighbor! Yeah, it’s been terrible here. We have no way to water this so it’s feast or famine, but it made when nothing else would have with the drought, so we’ll take it! 😊

    We had a critter that dug our seeds up early growth, just after they popped out of ground, so we are doing a 2nd planting here in south MS. Yours looked pretty good with not much water.

    Would love to see you can cream corn!
    Feeling your pain up here in on the Cumberland Plateau in North Central TN. I’ve never seen it this dry…you can dig over 6 inches down and dry as a bone. We need rain so bad🙏🏻

      Cream corn video coming out today! 😁 I canned all day yesterday… there is a chance we may get rain today, but you never know here. It’ll rain 5 miles down the road and nothing here. I’ve never had a season gardening with this bad of a drought. Prayers for everyone who needs it! ❤️🙏🏻🌧️

    That's not bad for drought conditions! Cream corn is my favorite,along with corn relish. Do you save the corn stalks to decorate your porch for fall?

    • @harmonhomestead7434
      @harmonhomestead7434  3 месяца назад +1

      It really wasn’t a bad harvest considering how bad it’s been here. We have saved the stalks before, but not every time. We’re thinking about trying another round of corn before fall…

    Not to bad looking for such drought conditions. I love Peaches and Cream. I did not do any corn but have bought some from local farmers at our farmers market. If you were to freeze any, what would the best method be. I have been told to shuck some of the ears but not all and also cut both ends off and just freeze them that way. Does that sound about right?

    • @harmonhomestead7434
      @harmonhomestead7434  3 месяца назад

      How I always freeze: shuck completely, cut off the tip if it’s damaged, wash, boil for 3 minutes, ice bath 3 minutes, straight to the freezer. Works every time. 😊

    I freeze my corn in the husk in a paper bag then pull it out and put it in the microwave for 6 minutes or put it on the grill

    • @harmonhomestead7434
      @harmonhomestead7434  3 месяца назад

      Yeah, we just either freeze or can. I’ve tried it with the husks left on and couldn’t tell a difference myself, but some swear by it.

    Bees are not needed for corn.

    • @harmonhomestead7434
      @harmonhomestead7434  3 месяца назад

      They are not required, no, but they do help pollinate. You can research the ways that bees do help pollinate corn. I’ve mentioned in multiple videos how corn is wind pollinated, but after growing multiple years’ worth of crops, it is my belief that bees do pollinate corn as well, despite what msm tells.
