A little terminology: the hair is called silk, the skins are called husks, and what you're calling a cob is an ear. The cob is the hard core that the kernels grow on. All excellent advice, though! My favorite variety so far is Sugar Buns. It's an se+ type, so it holds well in the garden and also holds its sweetness for a long time after harvest.

I prefer to grill maize rather than boil it - a naked flame imparts a delicious nutty, caramelised flavour, a bit like that of roasted chestnuts. Yummy! 🙂 Memo to self: remember to plant twice as much next year...
