This is my idea of HEAVEN ! Charles, I LOVE all your videos, especially love this one . I have worked as a grower, seller, nutrition educator - and EATER! of locally grown vegetables for 20 years - and most people do not realize all the intricate details involved in getting a harvest ready for market. They just pick up their box of pretty vegetables and drive away! Thank you! I love your ideas on creating a beautiful, bountiful harvest with less weeding and NO back-breaking digging and tilling - been there, done that! A harvest like this is incredibly satisfying and enjoyable work. I am not afraid of a bit of WORK. but working WITH nature instead of against her is so much more intelligent ! Thank you, Charles and your team! I look forward to more gardening in 2021.

the amount of work that goes into a simple bag of salad leaves humbles me.. the timing of the growing, the picking of each individual leaf, the washing, the packing and the delivery. thank you for the insight
One of your better videos yet! Fantastically filmed n done. Thank you for highlighting a consumer issue, not buying perfectly fine but misshapened veggies. I would be guilty of it I think, will try to keep that in mind next time I’m picking my greens at the shops.

Thanks for your comment and to you others as well. How would it work that I could sell videos say on a USB without risk of piracy?! Say people editing and re-uploading? It's a nice thought.
@@CharlesDowding1nodig It's so sad we even have to think about that. I'm not a content creator so it didn't occur to me. A DVD or USB would work! If you could ship it worldwide? I think it's time for an updated version of "The Victorian Kitchen Garden Series" the Charles Dowding Way and Edward could do the job for sure. So talented. We'd have the past and the present. harvesting is the pay-back for all the work that went before, but it's a lot of work in itself, and you can't disappoint your customers. Timing is everything; this is the first video I see of harvesting and preparing the produce for market, and it was fascinating to watch.
Memories are made by simple things. I will never forget the taste of my first home grown organic cucumber. Charles' story of the shop is proof the people are sick to death of dutch mass grown "vegtables".
the fact that people commented that they'd forgotten what cucumber tasted like - having only had shop cucumbers until the last 2 years growing our own, i really appreciate how good they really can be :)
I can totally relate with that. Mass grown vegetables, Dutch or Spanish, it really doesn't mater, they all taste like s(word). They're wonderful for "business" not for your palate. :-( My wife, me too for that matter, we're staggered by the amazing taste of our natural and organically grown vegetables. I had almost forgot, my childhood memories, of how good vegetables could taste and smell. It's a pity that "industrial" food is lacking so much in both of these departments. On the "bad" side of the story, shape, form, size was all over the place. Some big some small, some twisted...BUT they all smell and taste wonderful. I would go with taste first, that's for sure. ;-)
This video just makes you want to grow food! Love the sound effects. Here in the eastern US, you can sign up for a home-delivered box of "misfits", not quite perfectly formed vegetables and fruits. You choose the mix, it's organic and not too pricey.
As I reach a 'certain age', I have been thinking more and more about retiring from my tech job to do small-scale farming. While I have enjoyed learning about the no-dig method, this video in particular has really made me think my dream could be a reality. Thank you so much, Charles, for the generosity and thoughtfulness that you bring to education on nuturing not just the plants and soil, but the gardener as well.
Hi Holly and the is nice to heart, good luck with future plans. Bear in mind tat I slowed down a bit for the video, and that I have some volunteers help which is not always the case. Harvest can often be stressful as you have time deadlines.
Insane amount of labour and skill but one can see you have equal amount of passion and get rewards out of it and it is magical to watch. Feeling so relaxed and positive and grateful every time I watch a new upload. Many thanks and sending you lots of love from Latvia ❤
Watching your videos has inspired me. I will probably never garden commercially but I'm sure I can grow enough for my future family and friends to be eating 100% fresh veg out of my own yard year round. And who knows? Maybe there will be a bit for the farmer's market. It helps that my climate is similar to yours. Bless you Charles

Watching how you pick, pack and deliver; the whole story - as a new grower and farmer myself, it is invaluable. I love how you don't use any gimmicks, it's just great food grown well, packaged simply and driven to where it needs to go. Supporting local growers and small-scale farmers is so important and what you and your family/team are doing is just amazing. Wow!!! OMG!!!! I always wanted to see your harvesting. Please make some more videos of that!! I really love watching your garden. What a beautiful green house!!! 🏡
Enjoyed seeing the amount of work that it takes to harvest, clean and package vegetables. We forget how much care is put into organic grown harvesting compared to large commercial mechanized producers.
Beautiful video. I so appreciate watching vids of gardeners harvest their veg. We began watching them in early spring prepare the beds, choose their seeds, potting on, transplanting and sowing and garden tours. So many channels think it is more important to have their talking face close up in the screen when we would rather see actual harvests of their gardens (especially partial to potato harvests). This vid was so well done, I have watched it 3 times so far. Bravo Charles and great editing as well!
Sustainable, productive and rewarding sums up my thoughts about this video. Such a confluence of colors and flavors heading out the door, it’s extremely satisfying to see and I’m sure even more so to experience. The comradery between you and your team is palpable. Great wishes and onwards, Mr. Dowding!
Continued good health to you Charles, you feed our minds and souls with your inspiration. It’s about time people started to value food and the effort it takes to grow good stuff. You never fail to encourage us to grow super produce! Very enjoyable video, showing us behind the scenes on your harvest days was very interesting.

I love your normal videos full of tips- just like your book and diary, but this video was a really enjoyable, relaxing watch and very insightful to the amount of work put it on a daily basis. We started an allotment early this year and have used your No Dig approach and other seasoned allotment holders have been commenting on the yields, health and fullness of our plot. A couple have even said they 'might try it next year'. Learning so much from you with each new video. Thanks for all the inspiration.
I was watching your video for breakfast and felt so jealous on that guy from Austria . I would be so grateful to be accepted to volunteer in your garden which I am sure there are thousands as well . Lots of love from Daventry.
hello charlles, your work with plants and vegetables is magnificent; one of the greatest human creations was the internet as I am from Brazil and breaking the barrier of distance between us is admirable; It is essential to produce our own food, as we can see that it is a way of prevention we know that they are totally organic free of pesticides, where today almost everything we eat involves poison. One thing that encouraged me to planting vegetables here at home was around March 2020 and a practice I had was to produce my own watering can, then came the taste of producing vegetables, soon after recycling the egg trays and disposable cups I realized that it is a great option to recycle and reduce environmental impacts.
Charles this video is Brilliant !!! well done Edward- It was so interesting to see the other side of the harvest & what actually happens. I wish I could grow abundance like you but my backyard vege garden supplies us & my neighbors so I am happy. Cheers Denise - Australia
Thank you soo much for putting the names of everything crop you grow on the screen. I LOVE it. Plz continue to do so as it’s so much easier to go back and get the name if we want to try it! The best...your garden gets better & better (not that it wasn’t lol). Thanks so much for sharing!
That was absolutely fascinating. Stunningly simple, wholesome food grown on an intimate scale yet available at your local Spar! The residents of your area are very lucky to have you on their doorstep. Thankyou for sharing this with us. I am trying to follow your advise as best I can in the garden I am making in my new home. I have been here a year and am very proud of the changes I have made so far. It is going to be an ever evolving situation for me but always based on no dig, no pesticides principles. Thankyou for the inspiration :-)
Such honest and hard work, so much respect and love for nature. It is a shame that growing vegetables and fruits gets put under the same “farming” umbrella with cruel and unnecessary animal farming. I love watching your videos Charles.
Pure joy. What a beautiful video, gentle guitar, soundscape and editing. I can already tell that it will be one of those that I watch time and again. This minimal fuss, observational vlog style really works well Charles. 11/10.
Hello, from Washington State. I absolutely love your garden and videos. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to share so much of your knowledge.
Hi Charles, great video. I live on a Parkhome site with 36 houses. No shop anymore in the village. I tried to sell my surplus via a donation, but people were not interested. I had a fall out with one of my neighbours for the table I had put against my house. He did not want to look at a cool box. So I give some vegetables away and I preserve a lot by freezing and bottling (according to the American 2 lid system and Mason jars) The taste of home grown vegetables is so much better. A lot of work, yes, but not always "hard" work. I call it "satisfying" work. Use your body, move around in the sunshine, chat and laugh with co-workers, deliver beautiful, nutritious food to your customers...that is not really "hard" - it is a life well-lived.

I've been a subscriber for a few years, and always get valuable advice for my own journey in gardening, but somehow didn't see this video until now. I truly appreciate you, and other farmers sooooo much more now. Good on the spa and other places that are wise enough to appreciate the quality and value of the food that you produce with so much heart. Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom in such a kind and gentle way. Much love to you and your family from the northwest USA! ♡
This is the season Charles that I will plant in the "no dig" area I started 2 seasons ago because of you. I have so much erosion over the years, that making it all go "no dig" made the best sense. I even got a humongous squash volunteer last season ( I thought it was a weed till I had a closer look). It was scrumptious! I hope my effort is prolific, so many leaves gathered and put down along with kitchen scraps, coffee grinds and egg shells, then covered with a wool rug. Well I hope it works out. This year, I am going to create a hot compost bin just so I can add on top. I don't have much space but I think I can supply myself ( about 40 by ten feet). Anyways I don't even have much in goals but I enjoy what you say and show. Thank you
Thank you so much for this video! It's great to glimpse some of the steps that you take to sell your produce! Would love some more videos to do with this facet of Home Acres!! 💜💜 from Australia
Fab video Charles, I'm amazed at how cheap our food is. I've started using my onion and garlic scapes in omlettes and stir fry, cut the head and top inch off and use about 6" of the stem the same way you would cut chives. They don't store well or i've not found a way to store them yet, but they are a real punch of flavour from what generally is waste. Thanks for the video and information shared. Inspiring.
For those outside of Europe wondering about the "Spa", Charles is talking about. Spar is a supermarket/minimarket chain found in most european countries.
Beautiful harvest! It is so wonderful that you have so much to share and distribute. I've seen people use a reconfigured, old washing machine spin cycle to dry out the salad greens. I cannot believe you do all that by hand!
I have seen tons of farmers doing this salad mixes. They all uses complicated and elaborated methods like hacking washing machine to dry the salad, or hacking jacuzzi pumps for cleaning the salads through bubbles.... But every time I see your videos I got amazed of your simplicity! You end up having similar results with only a cage and a barrel with water.. That really makes me think that perhaps I dont need to invest in all that hacking stuff to start selling salad mixes to my neighbors.. Thank you Sir for giving us all this valuable information. I hope you put more videos related to selling, for example, what price to sell, how to plan and define our income, etc. A friendly hug from Chile, near Wini.

I was watching your video for breakfast and felt so jealous on that guy from Austria . I would be so grateful to be accepted to volunteer in your garden which I am sure there are thousands as well . Lots of love from Daventry.
Silvia Contan he was fortunate with the weather, often less pleasant! I have no vacancies just now, mail me via website if they interested for 2020
hello charlles, your work with plants and vegetables is magnificent; one of the greatest human creations was the internet as I am from Brazil and breaking the barrier of distance between us is admirable; It is essential to produce our own food, as we can see that it is a way of prevention we know that they are totally organic free of pesticides, where today almost everything we eat involves poison. One thing that encouraged me to planting vegetables here at home was around March 2020 and a practice I had was to produce my own watering can, then came the taste of producing vegetables, soon after recycling the egg trays and disposable cups I realized that it is a great option to recycle and reduce environmental impacts.
I so agree Carlos, the amazing internet. I wish you successful harvests
Most enjoyable to watch. Thank you!
Good to see you using cardboard boxes for the shops rather than plastic 👍
Charles this video is Brilliant !!! well done Edward- It was so interesting to see the other side of the harvest & what actually happens.
I wish I could grow abundance like you but my backyard vege garden supplies us & my neighbors so I am happy. Cheers Denise - Australia
That is a lovely job you have Denise and thanks
Thank you soo much for putting the names of everything crop you grow on the screen. I LOVE it. Plz continue to do so as it’s so much easier to go back and get the name if we want to try it! The best...your garden gets better & better (not that it wasn’t lol). Thanks so much for sharing!
Happy to hear this thanks
I loved the "behind the scenes" look into your gardening operation. A great change of pace!
And PS, I would still buy that wonky cucumber over a straight mass produced one :-)
Ah good! And so true that your garden evolves all the time, never a static experience
Such honest and hard work, so much respect and love for nature.
It is a shame that growing vegetables and fruits gets put under the same “farming” umbrella with cruel and unnecessary animal farming.
I love watching your videos Charles.
Many thanks Mateja.
Yes we need in English many words for "farming"!
Pure joy. What a beautiful video, gentle guitar, soundscape and editing. I can already tell that it will be one of those that I watch time and again. This minimal fuss, observational vlog style really works well Charles. 11/10.
Cheers John, maybe Edward has a career option :)
Eveline in Southern Scotland.
Ah Eveline that is shocking, maybe most people have forgotten these wonderful flavours. Good you can store the veg.
I'm watching this as the coronavirus panic peaks, and I can't thank you enough for its anti-anxiety effect.
Oke
I could not agree more.
Sadly after 3 months since your comment I don't think we're at the peak.
@@vincei4252 Not too long ago the UK announced it's second lockdown. I hope you all stay safe and sane. Look after yourselves
@@Stettafire Yeah, my friends in England just told me. Sucks. I used to spend every Christmas in England too. I guess I'll be stuck in the US for at least another year, again. Hope you all stay safe too. Cheers.
I love this! Fresh basil in salads is most delicious! Paired with homegrown tomatoes...nothing like it! Your bolted onions even look beautiful. Makes me jealous. Thank you for sharing this wonderful video.
Always a privilege to watch your videos.
Thanks for the peek into your market enterprise! After seeing the hard work you do, I’ve been inspired to “get to it” in my small family garden. In the end it’s worth it all! You have an amazing garden. 👍😁
Lovely to hear and well done
What a wonderful insight & beautifully shot. Thanks for sharing.
Suz our pleasure 😆
Good job Charles you're such a hardworking gardener...continue to inspire us aspiring gardeners..
Thanks so much
Mr Dowding sure has a whole lot of gardening knowledge behind him
Hello Mr Dowding, I did Enjoyed having a look!! There isn't anything I don't enjoy from Homeacres. It is interesting, enjoyable and even peaceful watching the rest of the process after harvesting. Thank you gentleman, much appreciated. 😉
I keep coming back to this video over and over again. We are obviously biased, as entrant commercial growers, but can't help but think this is your best video ever! Informational, inspiring, beautifully shot.
Ah thanks and edward will be happy to see this.
Do remember that I am not always this relaxed when harvesting, it slowed for the video :) Speed is vital
@@CharlesDowding1nodig We did guess that! Please do say thank you to Edward for the idea!
How interesting and lovely to watch, I glean everything I can from your videos and watch them several times. Looking forward to visiting your garden open day in a couple of weeks 😊
Hello from Epernay, France.
Can you please tell me where is the NO DIG gardening farm located?
Would love to discover some British interesting gardening technics and compare them to what we do out here on the continent. 😉
Thank you for your time and reply. 😊 cheers! Et merci !
Greetings Charles! I love gardening and watching things grow, but I'm always super excited to watch the harvest videos of other gardeners here on RUclips! Watching your videos always lends me inspiration and encouragement to continue gardening here in Hardiness Zone 8b in Tifton, GA. I wish you and yours continued bountiful harvests there in your area my friend!
Lovely to hear, thanks
Good morning greetings from Long Beach, California 😊
Thanks so much for sharing the entire process of farm to market! Terrific video & interesting to see how much work & commitment goes into it all!
❤ ya Charles Dowding!
Looks soooo good. A lot of hard work and you put your heart n soul into it. wish I lived near, I'd be buying for sure. 💞
A lot of work, yes, but not always "hard" work. I call it "satisfying" work. Use your body, move around in the sunshine, chat and laugh with co-workers, deliver beautiful, nutritious food to your customers...that is not really "hard" - it is a life well-lived.
Thank you, Charles for sharing with us! So relaxing, peaceful and educational all at the same time.
i appreciate getting to see the young people who work with you.
Thank you for sharing the "other" side of gardening! Hard work is only worth it if you enjoy what you're doing! :-)
There are 2 youtube channels that I love most ; Liziqi and you. Both are very good. While some of her video seems impossible to do, your video is calm, relaxing, and very informative.
Thanks Ayina
qué emoción!!! me contestó, Genio total.!!! lo admiro muchísimo y aprendo aún más👋!!
So nice of you and it's a big thanks to Edward too, for the idea to make this
I am impressed by the quality of vegetables. Great work Charles! I started my own garden beds.
Thankyou Arthur, and may your garden bring you joy
Hi Charles 🙋 beautiful video and a bountiful harvest as per normal...love your videos 🥰👌...big hugs 🤗 x
I found this totally absorbing from beginning to end, love everything about it. Thank you Charles for such down to earth info.
It's an amazing job you're doing over there. So inspiring ! Best of luck Mr dowding .
His veggies are so perfectly beautiful. It’s unbelievable
Nice you like that
This is the season Charles that I will plant in the "no dig" area I started 2 seasons ago because of you. Thank you
That sounds very good Charlene, and I wish you happy cropping
Thank you so much for this video! It's great to glimpse some of the steps that you take to sell your produce! Would love some more videos to do with this facet of Home Acres!! 💜💜 from Australia
Lucky customers - they're getting the best- no substitute for hard work - thank you Charles Dowding.
Really enjoyed thanks. The ambient noise takes are wonderfully peaceful.
Thanks for the content.
Inspiring.
Edward did a great job. I truly enjoyed watching this!!
I'm so glad! Yes he is talented 😀
Lucky customers of yours - thank you. Just amazing 👍
Goodmorning ! :) Lovely to see you all happily working away there ! Beautiful vegetables :)
For those outside of Europe wondering about the "Spa", Charles is talking about. Spar is a supermarket/minimarket chain found in most european countries.
@Marvin B I can imagine ;o)
Ahh thank you!
Beautiful harvest! It is so wonderful that you have so much to share and distribute. I've seen people use a reconfigured, old washing machine spin cycle to dry out the salad greens. I cannot believe you do all that by hand!
Cheers Rose, this is simpler! I don't want them dry-dry
Brilliant thanks! Loved seeing the beautiful children at the end!
relaxing and enjoyable. What a great feeling that must be to grow such beautiful produce. Thank you for sharing..............
Thanks Susan 🥕
Nice to hear. Nice you appreciate that, and you can keep your costs down!
Wonderful Charles. All the best from here in Queensland Australia as we farewell Winter and head into what is looking like a very dry Spring.
Thanks Paul and may it rain soon for you
Hi Sir..your garden so awesome very clean....keep up the good work Sir God bless ..
Thanks Marilyn
Marvelous harvest. It encourages me to grow more. Thanks
Amazing crop of aubergine, fantastic Charles!
I realize this was posted years ago, but it’s very relaxing and enjoyable. I would watch this if it was six hours long. Thank you for posting. Here in USA (Arizona), in the summer it’s our slow period.
Thank you Sally we are happy to entertain you! And I find it amazing that summer can be a slow time 😀
@@CharlesDowding1nodigwe only get 9” of rain a year. Temps usually exceed 110 degrees. So I find I get a better results in Early spring(ending soon) and then in Oct. I’m busy though, building a greenhouse 20ft by 9ft. I will send you some pics of the land and ultimate goals. Be safe and all the blessings.
Happy harvest season..... While here in Philippines we harvest what we planted and grow.. little by little...love ur no digging
Many thanks. Yes such different climates.
I really enjoyed this, especially the harvesting. A pleasant time all around.
Charles, your videos are entertaining inspiring. Thank you.
Look like very busy and fun in the morning, so inspired me...and i learn about farm since Corona Virus, thank you so much from Indonesia
