I’ve searched for 2 years of when to pick the corn. This is the only video that’s actually told me everything from signs to how to check. You must be a teacher during your time off from gardening. If not, then you’re still very good at instructing in the correct manner!
You are spot on with this video. That's exactly how my grandpa taught us on his farm. We usually had our corn feast on the evening that the corn was first ready. Grandma would boil the salted water, and then once the water neared the boil, grandpa would pick the ears for all the family to eat, and the corn went from the stalk to the pot within 5 minutes. I also remember eating some corn raw.
This was very thorough and helpful! I did not know that there was such a short window of opportunity to harvest corn at the right stage or about feeling the tip. Great advice. Thanks!
Your window depends on what variety you planted so this info is not quite accurate. The variety I grow has a week to 10 day window and I have almost no issues with overripness. I know society loves generalities but a 3 day window for all corn is not reality.
Just retired and am starting gardening. Figured corn would be a good choice, seems like a beginners crop. Planted 48 seeds, 2 per hole, and got rid of the weakest one from each hole when they were around 4" tall. So, I have 24 stalks producing and needed to know when to harvest. Thanks for this video.
Thank you very much that was exactly what i needed to know. Mine is brown with no substance coming out. The silk is brown and i waited until it was brown all the way up. It never got brittle, so i didn't think it was ready. My first ear and i screwed up.
Fantastic! I appreciate these tips and examples. We are growing corn at our agriculture museum that is not available to eat by the public but that museum staff can enjoy. 🌽
Thank you so much for this! 💕 I've been a Florida grower for about 6 yrs now but this is my first year trying corn out.. I was worried because the silks were starting to dry out pretty good, but now I know this is totally normal and I'm getting excited for harvesting time! Thank you again! It's really great to meet you and I really appreciate you sharing this info with us! 🌱 There is nothing like picking your own fresh vegetables, straight from the garden. Mother nature has so many possibilities 🌻🦋
Great short and concise video, but you should mention that this is for sweet corn. I realize most people think of sweet corn when you say corn, but there are other types of corn. :)
Thank you so much for that information. You are a lifesaver. Wasn't sure if they were ready, it passed all the test even the white milky substance. Thank you thank you
Perfect. I watched a video from a more prominent censortuber and was still left wondering if my corn was ripe. That nice close up of the rounded top and specificity about everything makes me confident. Confident that I still have no ripe corn yet :
@@uglytruth4467 depends on the type of corn. You will usually get one big defined cob on sweet corn with a smaller secondary cob but there are strains of corn that have 5, 8, 10 and more! The world record for most cobs on a corn plant if I remember correctly is 29.
I wouldn't call it a waste if you wait too long. I like having some go to seed to store through the winter, and will take a hand full, throw it in a microwavable bowl with some butter and seasonings for a few minutes. It will puff up into parched corn, nice crunchy snack.
I followed your tips, JUST NOW as was walking in the corn garden. Seems that the tip you gave about the tip that needs to be hard and solid worked really well, although not all of them were far away from the main stem..... Strange...
Usually I chop it and leave it in place to cover and break down into the soil. ("chop and drop.") Sometimes I'll take it out and compost it separately if I have another crop going in its place soon.
Great video...i live in southern California.. The weather inland is mostly dry in mid June. Planting corn then, will it b to hot in July or august? Or plant it in late August..its hot till early October here?
In central Arkansas, we're regularly in the upper 90s and corn does just fine in the heat. As long as you can keep them irrigated, I think you could plant about anytime.
Something is getting my corn. We have a fence around the garden, so I think its birds...the ears are shredded and the kernels are picked off the cob. Any ideas??
It depends on the days to maturity on the particular variety you're growing. But after I start to see the silks brown, it's just a few days away. Watch them carefully.
I’m sure by now you’ve found the answer to your question, but for others that may see this the corn is usually ready to pick about 20 days after silks first appear. Still follow the checks she described in the video to be certain.
Some varieties of corn have white kernels. The same pressure test will apply. But if your corn is a yellow variety, the kernels will be white when they are very young. Once they start to fill out, the color either changes to yellow or stays white.
Well done, love the way you explain how to. Corn has to be one of my favorite vegetables. Check out my RUclips channel. Love to here some feedback from you.

Out of all the videos I have watched this is the only one that talked about how to know if it is overripe. Thank you!
It’s almost like it’s a secret or something sheesh
I searched for how to tell if popcorn is mature and all i got was popcorn ceiling asbestos crap
Thanks for the info. Growing our first corn and had no idea when to pick.
I love watching how everything comes together during the harvest
Thank you for the best time to harvest video and not a waste of time!
Another tip is to remember to shake the corn stalk so that pollen falls down to the silk and pollinate the corn
I know mine is ready when the raccoons eat it all.
😂
Aww lol
🦝🔫
A RACCOON?
That would be why you put other foods out for your raccoon pal. Old cereal, old bread, pizza etc. He will leave your garden alone!!

Delicious isn't it? And some wonderful memories!
Thanks for telling me how to harvest corn

best video on corn ripeness! i have watched at least 10 others and this is the greatest! THANKS!
Thank you. This is the perfect video I was looking for. You showed all the stages for harvesting with clear pictures.Thank you again.
I am growing corn for the first time, now I have an idea what to look for. Hopefully I won't miss that window period, thank you.
Short and to the point! Very helpful, thanks very much!!

I am growing corn for the first time this summer. I was absolutely clueless when to harvest. Thank you so much for being so precise!
Thank you This is my 3rd year as a city girl growing corn. I never really knew the proper way to tell they were ready 😊

Yay! I'm jealous that you already have corn! :) I hope you enjoy them!
i live in Florida too and this seems to be my best corn crop year..
Thank you. This my 1st time growing corn.
Thank you for doing this video. We grew corn for the first time and the first two cobs were awesome the next 4 tasted starchy. Learning curve!

I am within a week for a few of my corn. Almost gave up this year but I'm super ready to pick my corn😃
Excellent video. This my first try at growing corn and this is exactly what I needed to decide when to harvest.
Growing my first corn this year I have some almost ready to harvest this helped alot TY
Very helpful, thank you! I planted corn on a whim and it did way better than I expected 😅
All the other corn harvesting guides mislead me, and I picked too early! I knew I should have started here!
Thank you so much for that information. You are a lifesaver. Wasn't sure if they were ready, it passed all the test even the white milky substance. Thank you thank you
Awesome!
Just subscribed. I enjoyed your presentation, no waffle just straight facts. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
Awesome, got to check mine right now. Dallas, Tx area. Thanks for such a detailed explanation.

thanks for showing me when to harvest Corn I Never knew harvest window is 3 days. My backyard corn is waist high. cant wait!
How many ears of corn grow on a single plant?
@@uglytruth4467 I heard usually one. That is all that is on my first very small test crop.

Just what I needed!! Thanks so much!😊🌽

AWESOME TIPS!
Good video! About to go check
Excellent tips! Thank you
Thank you 🙏. Great video
I agree you can always tell when it’s ready by giving the tip a good firm squeeze
Great video..so clear and easy to understand
Thank you for this.
Thanks! Great info!
Good information. Precise and spot on.
My dad said also when the top of the corn plant drops down good sign she ready boys
Very helpful
Thank you. This is sooo helpful!👍
Thanks for the tips!
Beautiful!!
Great video, thank you!!! Growing corn for the first time this year... its almost ready! Now I know how to tell when it is time to harvest :)
Nothing better than homegrown corn! :)
I followed your tips, JUST NOW as was walking in the corn garden. Seems that the tip you gave about the tip that needs to be hard and solid worked really well, although not all of them were far away from the main stem..... Strange...
Different varieties could have slightly different growth habits, too.
What do you do with the original corn plant once you have harvested?
Usually I chop it and leave it in place to cover and break down into the soil. ("chop and drop.") Sometimes I'll take it out and compost it separately if I have another crop going in its place soon.

tyvm for info
Thank you so much!!
Great video...
I planted mine too close to each other will that be a problem. Cuz I see ears on some but not on others.
Thank you 😊
great information on corn
The way u pick the corn can damage the plant. Pull it away from the main stalk, twist it. If it’s ripe, it will come off easily
Fantastic thank you
Thank u so very much!!!
How many do you usually get from 1 plant?
Mine doesn’t seem to be growing very big. Pretty thin. Does corn need a lot of water. Like daily.
Yes it needs more water than most plants.
Something is getting my corn. We have a fence around the garden, so I think its birds...the ears are shredded and the kernels are picked off the cob. Any ideas??
Squirrels can climb fences, so that's a possibility.
TX you.
im going my first corn
Amazing❤
about how long does it take to get to the ready stage? just asking if u know plz reply ASAP! :]

Aku suka videonya
👍
Great job on this and other vids you have done. God bless jesus.
I sprinkled cinnamon on my corn to eliminate the aphids, so the silks on the corn have been brown😮
Thank you boo bear
Blessings
What about milky yellow?
Should still be fine.

oh boy
