    Why is the teaching of the artist excellent? I'll tell you. He's an adult, he doesn't need nerve-racking music in the background. He reduces what he wants to say. His English is clear. And he clearly has an understanding of what art and painting are. - Thank you! Greetings from Finland, Europe.

    The value of these tips is actually some real wisdom. When you're a beginner it is so easy to get down on yourself and forget that painting is a constant push and pull, constant editing, being able to detect problems, which is a skill and it is not easy. I imagine I will spend the rest of my life refining those skills lol. "Every professional artist starts as an amateur" thank you Mr. Ben :)

    I’ve never painted and I feel so overwhelmed and discouraged not knowing where to start or what to do at all. The few videos of yours I have watched so far have made me feel so much better, you really break it down so easily and show how the process is difficult even for pros. Thank you for sharing and I will be watching as many of your videos as possible!

    Ben I gave up on myself and my art when I finished college. I found myself so stressed I began to dread the one thing that ever gave me a sense of peace and purpose. Last night I was watching landscape artist of the year and next up you tube suggested your videos which I watched with delight. You have inspired me to try again. Your gentle encouragment and simplicity of instruction is invaluable Thank you.

    • @lustenhouwer
      @lustenhouwer  2 года назад +4

      So nice to hear Patricia. I want you to know that I also was very stressed in the beginning. What helped me a lot was allowing myself to fail. I tried to ruin a portrait and not aiming for the highest, only to find the fun of painting. Every artist must make at least a hundred bad paintings. And we all started as an amateur.

Even if I wouldn't be an aspiring amateur painter, even than, your recommendations would help me see the world around me much better and in more real way. Wish you great health and energy (that you have!) so you can keep us on the right track. And yes, sometimes to leave the painting and walk the dog! Blessings!

    I love what you said about too many details in the end. I totally agree. I struggle to not be overly detailed. But when I study Sargent's portraits, I'm amazed at what glorious results he achieved without being overly detailed. For example - hands! The hands he painted were amazing and yet some, when you look closely, are seriously not detailed. Great tips!

    • @lustenhouwer
      @lustenhouwer  2 года назад +2

      Indeed. Alway I see the temptation to add more details. It is a mistake to think that a portrait with more details gets more realistic. I aim for authentic more than realistic
