Who the hell (20) thumbed down this video? I’m drawing a hand with my minds eye with only 1 finger raised! His videos are detailed and easy to absorb. Also FREE instructional advice that you would pay for at a workshop of University. Thank you for spending time, preparing and instructing.
Ben, you are amazing. Firstly, you give a perfect lesson in English when your first language is Dutch. Then you provide gems of information without charging for them. I shall keep this video in my favourites list for reference. I will use it often. Thank you so much.
I don’t have that much time left. He’s a very good teacher. This is one of the best hand drawing demos. I started drawing after retiring from 30 yrs of special ed teaching. Newly discovered interest. High learning curve thanks to internet. I played piano, violin and domra in community orchestras. Art is my go to creative outlet these days.
IMHO - Ben, you are one of our greatest living portrait artists, and that you are willing to pass on your knowledge to help other artists only enhances our love and appreciation of all that you do for us.
I love how you teach with passion, I would listen to you all day, so calm, make it simple, explains all of your color mixing and their purpose, very useful tips and you make me believe that I too can do it, one step at a time. Thanks a lot!
Just in the right time, you help me so much to step further. I like the simplicity, transparence and générosity you put on your teaching ,it,s gteat! Thanks so much
This video made me smile a lot of times. From "I use my hand. It's always there" to "Even more naples yellow". It is so pleasing to watch you paint Mr. Lustenhouwer. Not to mention, I play your videos side by side when I draw or paint. It makes the whole process a calming experience. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this, Mr Lustenhouwer. I'm sure you have heard this so many times, but I will say it again, you are an amazing artist and teacher! I am a pastel artist and have benefited greatly from your oil painting tutorials.
I can't describe my excitement when i saw that today's video was about painting hands! It goes without saying that the result justified the beforehand excitement! Thank you Maestro!
Thank you so much for this video! I love your teaching style. I love how you drew the planes on your own hand, and watching your painting process was so helpful as well. And thank you to your cousin for the beautiful music!
I've been painting for several years. I also watch a lot of videos on the subject and this is certainly the most beautiful painting demonstration I've seen so far.
Thank you Ben. I have been struggling with a hand in my current painting. Your explainations and way of teaching are so relatable and help me to make sense of the task. Today is the first time I’ve watched one of your tutorials and I can wait to learn more! Thank you , thank you !
You are an amazing painter and teacher. I am mainly a digital and watercolor painter, but after feeling bored I decided I wanted to brush up on my oil paintin' skills. I have learned more in a few hours of watching your videos than I have through trial and error over that last 15 years. I understand the fundamentals now and don't feel like I'm blinding painting until something hopefully makes sense. Even darker tones/shadows are less intimidating now. Thank you so much!!!!
What can I say about your painting I am constantly watching you and I am learning, I am learning, and I am learning, but what has impressed me about you is the language. And we explain. I am Greek and I speak a little English, the way you speak your language makes me participate and understand you to 70%. I am 65 years old and self-taught since my childhood, I have been painting for the last 12 years, I added soft pastel except oils, thank you Yours sincerely
I discovered the solution that I understand the English you speak you are Dutch for this and I understand you if you were English or American I would not understand anything
absolutely the best instructual video i have ever seen. i was alittle disappointed when you said your showing it in fast mode other wise it would be too long. i was in for the long haul. i learned alot, truly alot. thank you for teaching the way you do. its my first time running across your video. i plan on seeing more of your videos thank you again and God Bless.
Hi Ben, My brother was an artist. When he passed away, I was very sad and began to learn to paint. I didn't have a teacher. I had already made copies of Van Gogh and Monet, and I knew the process would continue. Thank you
As usual: an essential point and your outstanding common sense. Hands are present in many portraits. Moreover: they are key elements of expression in any scene. I got stuck trying to draw portraits because some artists leave the hands unfinished, sketched in quick impressionist srokes. You have to find a model of hand to fitthere: same size and position. Finally you get bored with a collection of hand models and portraits... I´ll have to use my left hand, as you sketch it. With a mirror it can be turned into a right hand. By chance I happened to heard you talking about poor draftmanship and mentioning David Hockney's BBC documentary. I watched it: it helps to keep on and not give up. Also the example of Van Gogh's "heavy hand" and his hard work to overcome that pychomotor handicap at the Cormon academy 4 years after his dead and having as fellow students Emil Bernard and Toulouse Lautrec. Prodigy child E. Bernard ended wasting his gift as draftstman. T. Lautrec succeeded thanks to his draughtmanship...but still Van Gogh went much farther despite his motor disability. Thanks , once again, for your practical lessons.
I stumbled across your channel when I came up with an idea to paint my 90 year mom's hands which I think speak of the life she had. Hopefully, I can complete something while she is still with us. Thank you for the lesson.
Really opened my eyes to the hand structure in the first few minutes. Fantastic! Thank you. I plan to draw hands as much as possible rather than avoid them.
I love everything about this tutorial. Packed full of incredibly helpful information as usual. You are by far my favourite artist and teacher on the internet. Thank you for your generosity.
Ben, thank you for this free tutorial. You are sharing blessings to emerging artists like me. Thank you for allowing yourself to water someone else's passion and dreams. You are an inspirational teacher. Please keep doing what you do, giving courage and grace to a world like we have today. God bless you.
Excellent teaching!!! Keeping simple for shapes and tonal values makes it a perfect block-in before letting yourself get into details. Letting paint be paint and just learning how to mix and apply makes so much easier! Keeping loose but really thinking and seeing carefully with thought out preparation. I love to watch you paint!
As always Ben, very precise and didactic... Among other tutorials, yours are top... You don't aim to make a show of your work, but helping your audiance with a pertinent teaching... Thank you.
Thankyou so much for doing this wonderful video. You are an exceptional teacher. I love how much colour you put in the skin tones, shadows and highlights.
The painting is amazing! 😍 I could spend hours too watching your videos (in fact, that's what I've been doing since I discovered this channel) 😊 and they are really helpful because of the way you share and explain the multitude of aspects that we have to deal with when we paint. Once again, thank you so much! 🤗
Thank you for this very good lesson. After all this years of palnting I will now put my energy in painting a decent pair of hands at last. I also liked the mysterieus music on the background. Greetings from Harm van der Veen
Hello, I’m new to your channel I am in awe of how you explain drawing and painting hands so clearly. To tell you the truth I have difficulty with hands it makes me wanna be angry or something, and you explain it so well thank you I got into oil painting recently. I am experienced in painting I never tried painting with oil paint before so this is a new experience for me.
I was so happy to see that Ben posted another video. I'm impressed with the quality of the productions, they are better than many courses that cost money to access. Thank you!
Thank you! What an awesome thing you are doing....teaching us something we are destined to fail without!!! Some things simply cannot be learned from a book Much respect and appreciation!!!
Very useful demonstration, Ben. I am working on a portrait of my granddaughter. The photo is Black and white. I was really really finding it very difficult to judge the shades of her back of the palm that is rested under her ear and on the right shoulder. Wow...your guidance will help me choose most of the shades as her skin complexion is almost the same as in this video. Thanks Ben. I appreciate your time taken for this video.
Perfect explanations, especially telling us in detail about mixing the colors which are very important and writing down what are you mixing, thank you you are very kind, God bless you.
I come from German. My english is not so different. Sorry. But i want to say: this clip is so professionell. And he explain very difficult things in an understandable way.
