Thank you for the video! I've watched all of them from this series when i was looking for sorting machines. I have found lots and some of them are faster than yours, but i have not found any one that have all of these Engineering details (not even close!). That sorting was kick butt. The video was kick butt. One problem: you called them PURPLE SKITTLES. And I wish I was still around just so I could've had a glass of skittles. That looked satisfying.
Are you able to sort every single one of the skittle without leaving any of them on the top container though? If one or two skittles do get lonely up there, how are you going to fix it?

The speed and accuracy of that diverter set up is really impressive, nice work! Do you think any of the errors are due to misreads by the color sensor? Or are they all due to the double feed issue as you described?
Yeah, That is why I love servo motors. It is possible, but unlikely. We ran the whole bag of skittles through one at a time (Which was about 170ish of each color) without error. We actually improved the data handling on the color sensor. I didn't include that because I am trying to ease into explaining more technical things. It came down to realizing that we actually had three dimensions of data coming in,(red, green and blue) but we were only evaluating them in two dimensions. (the converted hue and brightness) We changed our method over to converting the red, green and blue to hue, saturation and value. Then, we used the same distance-from-average method but in three dimensions.

I know some unsavory types that are willing to eat unsorted skittles. It is a dirty job, but someone has to do it...

Don't worry. We filed all the correct paperwork and received a skittle harming permit.
You don't need a permit if you preemptively declare "Get Rekt".
