Could not agree more. My dad's old 22 is worth more to me than ANYTHING and everything in my collection. First gun I ever shot and he just handed it down to me last month. He's still around thankfully and we still go shooting sometimes.
My first was a Hi Standard Military over 30 years ago. It is still my most accurate and best loved pistol. An amazing supressor host, barrel swap in seconds. I got lucky that they started producing them again, so I got more than 1 mag for it. Thanks to one in the comment section, I got holsters too. Great video, Great subject.
I inherited my dad's Hi-Standard Model H-D Military 22 LR when he passed away a few years ago. It came in a Beaver Bros. Mfg. Co. leather holster. The only flaw is with the magazine. The small projection on the side that allows you to more easily load ammo, but I'm sure I could get that fixed by a decent gunsmith. It still shoots as nice as it did when I was a kid learning how to shoot pistols. It brings back good memories every time I shoot it.
Nice to hear your story, i remember coming across you many years ago on YT, youve done very well. Mine was a Marlin bolt action rifle that lives in retirement today with my son 👍🏼🇺🇸
My first was a Ruger MKII stainless with bull barrel. It was my grandpa's, but now it's with me and will never leave the family. A lot of good times, won/lost bets, and family bonding happened around that pistol.
Caps Lock is a button on a computer keyboard that causes all letters of Latin and Cyrillic based scripts to be generated in capital letters. It is a toggle key: each press reverses the previous action.
The first rifle I shot was dad's Mini14. It ended up being stolen and never retrieved 😢 After I turned 40 or so I saw one at Wallyworld and bought it almost immediately 😊 Still have it and shoot it about as often as possible! Thanks for the video and sharing your stories! ❤
My first was a 1911, the manufacturer of which I do not recall. What I do recall though, was that my hands were too small and I had to use the thumb of my non-dominant hand to disengage the grip safety.
I have the Hi-Standard 6" "Plinker". I've had it for about 30 years and love to break it out for some serious plinking now and then. Glad to see one on your channel. Thanks!
Oh wow, that brings back so many memories. The first pistol I ever shot was a Hi-Standard just like that one except with a 6 inch barrel. Tore it down to its component parts 2 days after I saw it, Made my dad real happy. Now I gotta get it out and shoot it. Awesome video.
My grandfather passed on Aug 18th. He was the one that taught me to shoot. Have so many memories at the range with him. Was lucky in that I had been up to visit the month before he passed. He had just gotten his paperwork for his new MAC-10, so we were able to take it to the range and dump a few mags in full auto. He insisted on recording me shooting it. I thought the recording was dumb at the time. Now it is one of the last memories I have with him. I know I am getting some of his collection when they get around to the will. There is an M1 Garand that I have a ton of memories shooting and cleaning with him. Anything I get from his collection will never be sold.
My first pistol was a High Standard Double 9. We wore it out as it was an aluminum frame. I had a gunsmith rework it. He told me to shoot it for nostalgia then put it away. I got a Duramatic along the road. Then I was telling a coworker about the Double 9. He said I have one and it’s steel frame and a .22 magnum cylinder. I finally got him to sell it to me. Love them all.
A H&R 922 was the first hangun I shot. Great grandmother ordered it from a catalog. Sent in money and return shipping, and was delivered to the front door. Stayed under her matress for decades and then under my grandfathers for decades. Now it's in an old tube sock in my safe. My grandfather was the same way about wasting ammo. Depression era kind of guy, waste/throw away nothing. I had to pester him to go shooting. He'd eventually cave. He didn't show it, but he loved target shooting just as much as me. I miss the days of .45 cent boxes of Thunderbolts from Walmart and the hardware store.
Mine, too. Unfortunately it was stolen from my Brother's cabin while I was stationed in Germany. I loved that little gun. Had the interchangeable 22 magnum cylinder and shot like a dream.
The first playing card I ever cut was with a 101. That was 25 years ago, at least! I still have it and really enjoy it. Mine really likes Winchester Wildcats. That was great 15 years ago when you could find them because they were only $18 a brick but those days are gone. I have cut hundreds of cards with mine. Best $175 I have spent. Thanks for sharing.
I think it's awesome that you and I grew up shooting the same make of pistol. I grew up shooting a high datandard model gb. I still have that pistol as well. It has a 7 inch barrel on it.
nice firearms...I really miss my mud 80's smith and wesson model 41.. had it in the early 90s.. it was stolen in late 90s...it was the best smoothest shooting pistol I ever shoty
My 1st was a Mark 1. Still have it. Along w/ a few other Rugers but really enjoy my High Standard HD Military. Fantastic little antique pistol that’s extremely fun to shoot.
Same here. A High Standard Double Nine and a Duramatic. I traded both and some cash for two 1942 Lincolns Zephyrs, one with a V12, the other had a V-8 replacement.
Can't go wrong with a S&W Model 19. I love the S&W models 57 and 657. I own a 4" barrel, no dash, I bought many years ago and only has had 50 rounds through it.
That is such a great story I recently just acquired the first gun I ever shot it's a Winchester single shot .22 short that was made in 1898 it has a firing pin you have to manually pull back and all. And out of my whole collection, it's my favorite piece. I wouldn't trade it for Knights Armament!
He wasn't going to tell the story...but he did. Plinkster, you better not be "skipping" across the creek. Jumping is OK. As usual, an entertaining review. KEEP ATTACKING!!!
Thought I would say Hello 22Plinkster! Big Fan, Never miss a video. Love the plinking too! Have a Mossburg 702 (of course) Plinkster with around 10,000 rounds, still going!
The first pistol I ever shot was a High Standard Sport King. I was at my cousin's family farm in 1973 and we shot that thing for two hours. He also had a High Standard 22lr revolver that we shot. He offered to sell me the revolver for $40 but I wanted a bigger caliber since I already had a Wincester Model 75 in 22lr that my dad gave me when I was 12. I still own it. In 1975 when I was 21, I bought a LLama Commanche 357 magnum. Now I own several 22 pistols and revolvers that I share shooting with my grand kids.
Diamondback recently released their new Sidkick Birdshead with a 3” barrel. Try looking it up, you’ll find a couple discreet videos on it. You could definitely bring some attention to this awesome 9 shot single/double action revolver.
The first semi auto pistol I ever shot was my dad's High Standard Sport King. The first semi auto pistol my nephew ever shot was that same Sport King, which has been passed down to him. And to quote the late great Jimmy Buffet - "I'm growing older but not up".🙂
I’ll swear, when I saw the lead in, I knew it was going to be a High Standard…my first pistol shooting was with my grandfather’s High Standard…thank you for the memories 👍👍👍…I had a “Plinker” that was stolen by a family member in 1978 along with my Remington Model Nylon 77…he suffered a bad ending a few years later…KARMA caught up with him and he died in a tragic event 🫣🫣🫣
My first pistol which I still have, was a .22 Ruger Bearcat, single action. It's a small frame revolver which is great for a young person, but I think my hands were already kind of big for it when my brother-in-law gave it to me. I was a teen. I have the original box with the price sticker on it of $56.00. The fixed sights are SO FAR OFF, but it's fun to shoot nonetheless.
Christmas 1970 my brothers and I each got Bearcats with our names engraved at the bottom of the grip. Mine was SO FAR OFF I usually borrowed my oldest brothers whenever possible.
It looks line the High Standard has a similar grip and take down wheel as the Beretta Neos. I had no idea the Neos wasn't a completely original design.
LOL... my grandfather had a hardware store in Arkansas and they had about everything. While visiting like we did every summer... he bought two High Standard Sport kings. one 4" and one 6" I was 9 years old and the 6" went to my dad but it became apparent that I was in love with the gun and a very good shot compared to the rest of em so it just sorta became mine. Gramps would bring home ammo for me doing chores. It was paradise with him bringing home fireworks too... My Sport King had the lever takedown instead of a button and you just pushed it forward... super simple.
Man... thank you for the video and the stories... my first gun was and IS a Ruger MKI. Never did hit anything with it, but it is fun fun fun. Recently I replaced the rear sight with an adjustable one, and took a squirrel the next day, still having fun with it, so now getting into handgun squirrel bashing. Also, my project right now is a High Standard Sportking, given to me by an uncle. Still tweaking mags and springs, got her to shoot quite accurately, but shoots way high.
When I was 8, my grandfatehr taught me to shoot, with a Winchester model 255, .22 WMR lever action, open sights. When I got to where I could hit a beer can at 100yds 3 times in a row, he gave me that gun. I truely wish I still had that. That was 57 years ago.
we used them suppressed in Vietnam, along with the original Colt woodsman, I know because my neighbor in Pacific grove CA, had brought back a lot of his guns from the war as a SEAL team leader, that's another story but also he had suppressed Thomson MG's to go with his HS/CW as standard tunnel rat fighting kit, along with his favorite killing weapon, a big ass Bowie knife!
I always love the stories of family guns. "Got it from my Dad" "Got it from Grandpa" "Shot my first squirrel with it" . Any gun can be bought sold or traded, but guns with a history, especially a family history are the best guns ever. Now Im gonna read some great stories from commenters I hope.
The first time I shoot a gun I was 7/8 years old, it was 32 revolver. My brothers and I learned to use it in our garage in San Francisco. It was a typical SF house with the garage on the first floor and the area above. My dad pulled the bullets out the made paraffin wax slugs, it made for tough cleaning but it was fun.
Colt came out with the Cadet I believe in the early nineties. They later had to change the name due to trademark isses. It was based on the Duramatic design and it came in two barrel lengths, stainless bull barrels. Nowhere near as popular as the Woodsman but they can be found. Beretta also made a .22 based on the Duramatic.
The first pistol and first real firearm I ever shot was back in 1999 I think when I was still a teenager, it also was a 22 but it was a revolver and I had no idea what brand or model it was. I lived at a boy's home and we were on a road trip and we were at a church, and the pastor of the church asked me to go to his truck and retrieve his holstered revolver out from under his passenger seat, because he was dealing with a bunch of menacing gophers that were digging lots of holes on his church property and I spotted one. Well the gopher got away and the pastor asked me if I had ever fired a gun before, to which I said no sir, and he allowed me to fire his revolver, and I got to tell you if put the biggest smile I ever had in my life because I always wanted to know what it was like to shoot a real gun since my mother was against guns so of course I never got to shoot one while living at home LOL had to share that story haha
My father taught me to shoot the same way. I was about 15 when I could start small game hunting in NY state. My Aunt had a farm with lots of land full of woodchucks. One trip dad took me out and showed me how to stalk up on a woodchuck burrow, and gave me instructions on sight alignment. When a woodchuck popped up I was given the shot. Naturally, I missed. This process repeated several times that summer, and I finally started making hits, and dad stopped saying I was wasting ammo by missing. The following year, I was allowed to go out alone with mothers bolt action Savage rifle and 5 rounds in the magazine. He also gave me my first pocket knife. My instructions were to bring back the tail from every woodchuck, and he would give me 1 .22 LR cartridge for every tail. When I ran out of ammo, I was done hunting for the year. I learned fast to get in close, and make kills with one shot. Oh yes,... after hunting, that rifle was cleaned and oiled every time. I still have that pre- WWII Savage .22 rifle.
My first was a High Standard Sentinal with a 4" barrel I shot at at about 11 or 12 yrs. of age, my dad called me one day to come over and he gave me his guns including that Sentinal I kept for several years and about the time I turned 70 I gave it to my son and he has had it about 5 years now, I have another 6" barreled and a 2" barrel Sentinal as well he will get those too at some point
I have a 6 1/2" Duramatic M101 that I got in 1976. I traded a foxhound to my wife's uncle for it & he past away a couple of years ago, so it will stay here untill I see him again. It is very accurate & dependable.
There is a place in Texas that bought the mfg rights for the High standard and you can get new magazines. They are spendy I have on and love it and it shoots very good. I inherited it from my father-in -law and has been shot very little.
Unrelated but many many years ago I bought a mossberg Blaze 47 which was my first gun I only got it because of your review . It was a great fake Ak lol
I like your targets that light up. In the past I’ve had to guess on which target you were slaying. I love your channel but it could be expensive, I start pricing most guns you shot, like they are going to improve my shooting, yea right
Dad's High Standard Double Nine with 22 mag cylinder and "pearl" grips, 64 years ago at the rock pit. Have the nine, wish Dad was here to shoot it with me.
An uncle shoved a pistol in my hands when I was really young, and I put a round out into the desert. I can't remember what make or model, but from my cloudy memories of so long ago it "looked" like a High Standard or something "1911-ish" in 9mm. And that would be also the last time I held a pistol until I got into the military.
I can't remember the first pistol I shot was I have shot tons of rifles in my youth My first handgun that was mine was a .38 spl S&W victory model I liked it but traded it for a ruger mk II and a beat up blackhawk I could make cans dance with that mark II I thought I gota lemon with the blackhawk It had bad lead fouling in the barrel Cleaned that out and it shot nice 5 outa 6 clays on the bank of a gravel quarry 25 ft from the hip
My first pistol I shot was my dads ruger mark 1 ! I bet I put a million rounds through that little gun ! Well I grew up got married and my dad gave this cigar box, I opened it up and there was that little ruger...well kind of, because it was in a bunch of pieces!! Dad took it apart to re blue it, well it didn't get refinished, so I sent it to Prescott Arizona to see how much Ruger would charge to put it back together. To make a long story short, Ruger not only put it back together but, they also reblued it and replaced all the springs and pins so, basically I got a brand new gun for as little as nothing !! I wish I could say I still have it but, I wanted something else so, I sold that beautiful little gun to buy a Savage 30-06 ! Dad never did say anything about it but I know it hurt his feelings!!! So yea I reckon I've made at least 1bad decision in my life !!!
I bought a new sig p22 and it can't hit a Flippin thing I will keep my old browning buck mark for sure. The sig .22 I have to use the very bottom of the sites or the top of the barrel I wasted my money big time
I still have the first pistol I ever shot. It was my dad's Ruger Standard (pre MK1) .22lr semiauto. I was about 6 at the time, so 1987. It was given to him as a gift from my grandparents when he was young. We still have the original box for it and the box for the Old Model Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 mag he bought new as well. Great guns!
My Dad shot 3 rounds per year with his deer rifle. 2 on paper to confirm accuracy and 1 on the deer that would go in the freezer. It was still in pristine condition when I was able to pass it on to my son.
Memories with a father are more valuable than any firearm
Could not agree more. My dad's old 22 is worth more to me than ANYTHING and everything in my collection. First gun I ever shot and he just handed it down to me last month. He's still around thankfully and we still go shooting sometimes.
Its nice hearing story's like this brings back memories of my younger days
The first 22 LR semi automatic I shot was a high standard sport king. I still have it today and still love it.
My first pistol was a ruger single six ,dad bought it from a cottage that had it behind the bar ,great memories. Thanks

Brings back memories, my Grandfather on my dad's side had one. It was always in the center console in his Ramcharger.
I remember when mini 14s were available at Walmart for 599! Wasn’t really that long ago! The good ol days!
@cockroachdeloach5093 I didn't get there soon enough evidently. $787.00! 🙄
My first pistol experience was my stepmoms Colt Woodsman, v2 with 6" barrel. I inherited it and still love it.
Great gun and story!!! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
My 1st handgun (except for an old black powder revolver) was a Hi-Standard Sport King. Very similar to the Dura-matic.
The first pistol I ever shot was a HS .22 Sental , Nice little 9 shot 22 revolver. It was my fathers and now its mine and fun to shoot.
A H&R 922 was the first hangun I shot. Great grandmother ordered it from a catalog. Sent in money and return shipping, and was delivered to the front door. Maybe I have sensitive ears because first time I fired 22 LR out of pistol barrel in late 70s, realized immediately I needed ear protection.
nice firearms...I really miss my mud 80's smith and wesson model 41.. had it in the early 90s.. it was stolen in late 90s...it was the best smoothest shooting pistol I ever shoty
My 1st was a Mark 1. Still have it. Along w/ a few other Rugers but really enjoy my High Standard HD Military. Fantastic little antique pistol that’s extremely fun to shoot.
My first was also a High Standard. But it was a Double Nine 9 shot revolver. Still in the family!
My first was S&W mod 19 6” called it combat master.
Same here. A High Standard Double Nine and a Duramatic. I traded both and some cash for two 1942 Lincolns Zephyrs, one with a V12, the other had a V-8 replacement.
When I started out in Law Enforcement in 1973 I carried a Smith-Wesson Model 19 for the first 3 years then moved to an N frame 4" 41 mag Model 57.
Can't go wrong with a S&W Model 19. I love the S&W models 57 and 657. I own a 4" barrel, no dash, I bought many years ago and only has had 50 rounds through it.

My first pistol I ever fired was a High Standard SK100 Sport King and I still have it 35 years later. 😊
With a Crown Royal bag full of 22 lr rounds
Thought I would say Hello 22Plinkster!
Big Fan, Never miss a video.
Love the plinking too!
Have a Mossburg 702 (of course) Plinkster with around 10,000 rounds, still going!

i have almost every model high standard made, fantastic guns
I’ll swear, when I saw the lead in, I knew it was going to be a High Standard…my first pistol shooting was with my grandfather’s High Standard…thank you for the memories 👍👍👍…I had a “Plinker” that was stolen by a family member in 1978 along with my Remington Model Nylon 77…he suffered a bad ending a few years later…KARMA caught up with him and he died in a tragic event 🫣🫣🫣
I literally thought the same thing 😊
That is a awesome 22
Cool stuff man!
I still have my first rifle. It belonged to my grandfather. It's a Winchester Model 99 22lr. Looks just like an M1 carbine. Tons of stories with it.

Great story.
The first pistol was a 1911 courtesy of my Uncle Sam at Fort Knox. First .22lr was a friends Ruger Single Six
Great story!!! awesome
My cousin was a Victor fan. I have a Woodsman.
The first pistol I ever shot was a Hammerli 208 22lr. The first pistol I bought was a Walther GSP.
My first was a Duramatic M101 as well. It belonged to my Grandpa. Truly a remarkable weapon. I will be passing it to my Grandson as well.
My first was the High Standard Sport King with the shorter barrel.
Mine was old ..old Ruger Bearcat..in 1966
Your mom just called. She said you’re grounded for not telling her about that hole in the wall until now. 🤣
That is a great story about that pistol! Good shooting one too!
The family had one on the cape Fear novel
Unrelated but many many years ago I bought a mossberg Blaze 47 which was my first gun I only got it because of your review . It was a great fake Ak lol
Now c'mon, Plinkster, that beaver shot (excuse the pun) sounds like a bit of a tall tale (or is that tail)? Ba-doom-bah!!! Now, take my wife...please.
🤣🤣🤣
Much more better good! 😂😂😂
This was my first handgun too!
My first was a High Standard Sentinel with a nickel finish.
More High Standard vids!
First pistol I ever shot was a Glock 17. First .22lr I shot was a S&W victory, that I still have.
A .22 Ruger was my 1st when I was probably 9 or 10
S&W chief’s special .38 special in 72 and still carry an air weight j frame .38
1st, Dad's Marlin .22lr rifle. Still have.
The first gun I shot was a police positive 38 special. It is resting comfortably on my safe now.
I can't remember the first pistol I shot was I have shot tons of rifles in my youth
My first handgun that was mine was a .38 spl S&W victory model
I liked it but traded it for a ruger mk II and a beat up blackhawk
I could make cans dance with that mark II
I thought I gota lemon with the blackhawk
It had bad lead fouling in the barrel
Cleaned that out and it shot nice 5 outa 6 clays on the bank of a gravel quarry 25 ft from the hip
My first pistol was a High Standard to. I think it was a Citation 109 Military. Sadly I don't have it any more due to Government.
I'm envious of your childhood.
A pistol, at a church retreat?! (Gasp)
I just inherited a Highstandard M103 Sport King . Which ironically was the first gun I ever shot... any tips, tricks, or tips on it ?
I like that hat!
Very cool!
Great guns!
8:00 Story about firing pin in the wall.
OMG! My Dad was the same way. Buy a box of 22 lr (50 rounds) and it would last years.
I remember that video,,,ballons
I can shoot that one “much more better good” speaking of 6” barrel pistol love it….
My Dad shot 3 rounds per year with his deer rifle. 2 on paper to confirm accuracy and 1 on the deer that would go in the freezer. It was still in pristine condition when I was able to pass it on to my son.
