Yeah, most medical grade gloves are made from a synthetic material such as nitrile. Some people have a latex allergy, so lots of medical facilities avoid it altogether.
That’s insane. This made me think about how many boxes of latex gloves sanitary and food workers go through every day and it started as some tree goo. This guy needs a raise 💸
There are gloves made from 100% natural latex, but most disposable gloves are not 100% latex. Natural latex can be composted too (if you cut it to smaller pieces first). Unfortunately, most disposable rubber products are synthetic, or plastic mix, and not compostable.
sadly if RAW MATERIALS workers got raises, what would our 1st world country prices look like? im just asking the question cuz its a balancing act, to increase their pay either 1) the business takes the cut in their profits or 2) we consumers pay for higher priced goods. and since HYGIENE isnt really a negotiable factor, the laws of supply and demand kinda dont work. HIV, blood born diseses, bodily fluids, and generic germ transfer to the patient. i mean surgeons WILL most definately pay for their surgical gloves and sadly the bill will be passed on to the patients. this topic will always be an issue for more than just latex, think of the african workers, the indians, the south east asians, and other nations of the economic/global south. we reap the benefits of their exports and services yet the people of those nations still have lower standards of living than the very nations who buy thier resources.
One of my ancestors emigrated from Eastern Europe to Argentina to work as a latex collector at the end of the 19th century. He then managed his own plantation and predicted the rise of the automobile. He started a car tyre factory using the rubber from his plantation and made a fortune.
Very surprising that many here didn't know about natural rubber which originated from Brazil rubber trees which were later introduced around the world. Before the discovery of synthetic rubber which is produce from oil, all tyres and rubber products were from these rubber trees
Malaysia was the largest producer of rubber in the world. The British introduced stolen rubber seeds from South America in the 19th century and started plantations, owned by British companies with cheap labour from India. The Indians in Malaya/Malaysia are among the poorest citizens till today. Eventhough the Brits left in 1957.
Malaysia was the world's TOP producer of rubber... once upon a time... long, long ago... I used to gather rubber seeds from the rubber plantation behind my grandpa's sawmill. You can actually hear when a rubber tree's seed pods burst and scatter their seeds all over the plantation grounds. There weren't many vehicles on the roads then and background sounds were minimal and everything was just quiet... First, you hear a loud "CRACK" among the rubber trees when their seed pod matured and burst open ... followed by the sound of the seeds (4~5 seeds/pod), crashing through the leaves & branches of the rubber trees as they fall... You won't believe how shiny and smooth newly burst rubber seeds are... That's why we loved gathering the rubber seeds; we used them as "money" or "currency" in the games we used to play back then... LOL...! 😁😅😂🤣
I spent 12 years working in the food industry and before we were forced to wear gloves people washed their hands a hundred times a day. After being forced to wear gloves people would wash their hands about 10 times a day. Gloves can get contaminated the EXACT same way the hands do but people never wash gloves. Also water and soap will not fill up landfills for 10,000 years.

Sounds crazy but sure thing I am now allergic to latex - it's a funny old world if you live long enough. 66 (bingo, lol) I hope you never have an anaphylactic reaction. I've had a couple from bee stings, horrible. And now I hate the taste of honey too - go figure 😜
@@richardearnshaw2719thanks for the education. I never knew this. Its a good thing I'm not allergic to either because I like kiwi. Who would have thought kiwi could cut your lips? I suppose if you eat the outside. I tried that once and it was all I needed. Never eat the skin again.

In SEA, millions depended on tapping rubber trees as a livelihood but the prices are so low that they could hardly put food on the table, so most governments give them a little subsidy to go by
Everyday before school me and my brother would go rubber taping. He was 10, I was 8. It was child labour because he refused to gave me my fair share. 😂

one of my mother's uncle was kidnapped and trafficked to work in these forests, he escaped after struggling for three years, everyone thought he died but he was alive and enslaved
This is what we have been doing for the past 20 years...my father wakes up at 5 am and continue to work upto 4 hours, by the time the latex fills up the cup me ,my brother and mom collects the latex and which would take as 2 to 3 hours.....and it pays only 1 and a half dollar for a kilogram...its really hard job and pays very less ....

As a vietnamese. Latex collection is also big business here. You can see whole forests of rubber trees on national highways and large roads.

It's already impressive what one human can accomplish in one lifetime. Now expand that to multiple people in multiple generations.
I think most of it was more like "hey, we did this differently or we messed this up but this really neat thing happened, let's do it again"
Remember to listen to your elders because of that, theyre usually right about most things
