This is why I think the Reed pick was genius. If Amen develops into the PG of the future, Reed can be slotted in as the 2. If Amen doesn't develop into a PG, Reed has the tools to be a PG, and Amen can be that Point Forward. Regardless of which one of them takes the reigns as the PG (And I strongly believe one of them will), they both compliment eachother so well, and have an abundance of positional flexibility.
Good pod Jackson. I agree Reed and Amen's skillsets should mesh well together. I also agree Amen will likely get most of his on ball touches as a point forward. Ideally holding FVV minutes under 30 should benifit both him and the team. keeping him fresher and allowing the youngsters room to blossom and slowly assume his role. A lot depends on how fast Reed can adjust to the NBA game. if he excels quickly he is likely to become the starter after this upcoming season with Amen eating nearly all of the remaining minutes. Amen is so valuable as a swish army knife that while still getting his touches he will see the lions share of his minutes at the 2, 3 and 4 positions. FVV is secure for now, but Reed is in the rear view mirror and gaining on him. FVV is a class act, not many people are willing to mentor their replacement unselfishly. I hope we can retain him on a lower contract after this year. he is exactly the type of veteran player any team would want to keep around. his team first appoach is the exact type of message for a young team too see
I watched a replay of the March 27th game against OKC. Amen did a great job on Chet Holmgren playing small ball center. We need Amen in the front court.
If Freds falls....the structure will be gone. that's how important he is during this rebuild. ..the young core ain't ready yet... that's what i think... hopefully Alp and Jalen steps up big time in crucial time
FVV is critical to our success right now and the great thing is he isn’t purely selfish to keep that as leverage. He’s expediting the development of the Tax Man (Isaiah Reed Sheppard IRS) even through its counter to his expendability knowing that practically, it preserves his value to the org. FVV is literally as close to the perfect mentor to have for Reed given their skill set and play style (CP3 is in the same category). My hope is that having high quality characters like FVV is contagious on the org. I hope Reed and Amen can develop chemistry together nicely.
Yes, the Matrix is a great comp for Amen with slight tweaks. They both have that incredible double-jump speed and nose for the ball (offensive rebounds). Amen seems to be a better full-court driver. Shawn Marion did a great job compacting his game including his unorthodox shot being effective which I hope Amen can do. That will be a huge leap. Otherwise, he needs to tighten his handle and continue to be elite at defense to max his on-court staying power.
If Amen midrange game become more efficient like up to 40% and he improved his handle, then he should be the back up PG for sure. He’s explosive and has the highest ceiling
Fred Van Fleet is our Floor General and Coach on the floor. I agree he is essential not only for the rebuild, but for this team to continue its forward momentum. PG position is one of the most challenging and can take the longest for young players to adapt to in the NBA. The more Fred we have, the better Amen Thompson and Reed Sheppard can become in my opinion.
The question is will the Rockets pick up the 3rd year of Fred? Imo they will not due to salary complex next year unfortunately for Reed he must learn fast everything that Freed will teach in his Rookie year alone.
I think Reed Sheppard will start out the same way Cam Whitmore came out. He will struggle at first with the speed of the game. But, he will figure it out after a couple of game in the NBA and a couple of games at the G-league.
@LockedOnRockets Thanks Jackson I thought Booker would be the easier of the two to get. With Giannis potentially wanting out which part is unrealistic? Him coming here I know he loves Udoka
FVV and Aaron Holiday will be great mentors for Reed. I expect Fred to fulfill all 3 years of his contract. I don't think Reed could possibly reach Fred's level in 2 seasons. Maybe as a shooter but not a point guard.
I really hope FVV 3rd year gets restructured to like 3 years 40-50 million. We really need this type of vet on the team, even if its at a lesser role for the future. People don't understand how important he is to this team. Personally I think Reed doesn't get much minutes the first few months till his defense improves or there is an injury. Luckily we have the luxury of bringing up slowly, but who knows maybe he forces the issue by being too good to not get legit minutes.
Sengun is a point center, Amen is a point forward, and Aaron is a backup PG. Reed is a SG who can pass a bit. FVV has to be the starter. Jackson is right, Fred's minutes do need to come down.
The Rockets need to move away from these White-identity podcasts like Locked On Rockets that force our dominant players to play to the strength of our mediocre players which would kill the offense like we've seen for the last 3 to 4 years. Its already clear as day, the offense has to go through the Guards and Forwards. FVV/Green/Reed/Cam have to LEAD! AL-P/Amen/Bari have to DEFER to the greater good of the offensw or IT WONT WORK. Again, Al-P is NOT the best Rockets player. Even if he was, and we let him lead, the team will be holding back too much potential in Green/Reed/Cam to defer to Al-P. It would force us to trade guys like Green/Reed/Cam/FVV simply because Al-P wouldnt be needed to have a better offense but FVV/Green/Cam/Reed are more needed than Sengun to have a formidable offense. And fans like this dude on Lock on Rockets, sounda like those jealous LA fans that comes to the Rockets' content to force us to trade our best pieces to their state, like Green and Cam, and think a fruad like like Al-P is some kinda future superstar. Its a joke! Sengun is no Superstar player in the making!
I'm Sorry but Amen is not really all that good to me 😢 he kinda sucks really maybe he will play better in the future but for right now on a scale from 1 to 10 you give a Amen 2 that's 1 too many to me he's just not good enough to me
Fred can ease Reeds transition this year. But the perfect Jalen Gren trade. The Rockets trade Jalen Green to the Lakers for Auston Reeves and Dalton Knecht.
Karl Anthony Towns is what rockets needs but trading FVV might not be good idea. Still jalen green is a key element even though his inconsistency. otherwise i would say that trading jalen green is good idea with Karl Anthony Towns. what i think is that trading a sized-strong number 4 with jalen green, and taking jabari-amen thompson-cam withmore as small forward position and using amen thompson-whitmore-sheppard as shooting guard position might be more logical.

Hi from Sydney Australia
Amen should work on his midrange game like Derozen. But if he's close to a Sdhawn Marion that's still good.

@goodbook2268 and an all star lol Amen with a shot is dangerous for him and anyone running with him

Family I have a question if we could either get Booker or Giannis who you taking and for what package?
Booker is more realistic than Giannis. Would need to be 1-2 of the young core + all the Suns picks Houston currently has.
@LockedOnRockets Thanks Jackson I thought Booker would be the easier of the two to get. With Giannis potentially wanting out which part is unrealistic? Him coming here I know he loves Udoka
for booker, jalen, landale and d.brooks.
FVV and Aaron Holiday will be great mentors for Reed. I expect Fred to fulfill all 3 years of his contract. I don't think Reed could possibly reach Fred's level in 2 seasons. Maybe as a shooter but not a point guard.
Light The Fuse 🚀
Go Rox! From Austin, Texas yall
Amen will be our Andre Iguodala He’s a point forward .
Go Rockets!
Perfect Jasean Tate trade. Tata for Ausor Thompson. The pistons made that fit tate more than thompson but would this teams defense better.
Go rockets

I hope Fred retires as a Rocket.
We probably have the most talented collection of young players in NBA history.
It's up to Ime Udoka to have a championship in the very near future.
Go Rockets x2!
That block against bolbol -- amen is in pippen, kawhi or even jimmy butler mold, not a pg
🎉
Van Fleet will be extremely important this year and next, as Thompson emerge as future PG or Shepherd
4 point guards? Why rockets
Sengun is a point center, Amen is a point forward, and Aaron is a backup PG. Reed is a SG who can pass a bit. FVV has to be the starter. Jackson is right, Fred's minutes do need to come down.
not dreaming, there is no way for thompson being pg. only nominate for that is sheppard.

Depends on what you want from a player, but defensively top notch
Fred can ease Reeds transition this year. But the perfect Jalen Gren trade. The Rockets trade Jalen Green to the Lakers for Auston Reeves and Dalton Knecht.
If we trade Jalen it should be him and the suns picks back for Devin booker
I want Devin Booker on this Rockets team
The perfect Fred trade. The Rockets trade Fred to the Timberwolves fir Karl Anthony Towns or Rudy
Lol why would TWolves need a slow and short pg, let alone the outrageous 43M salary?
Karl Anthony Towns is what rockets needs but trading FVV might not be good idea.
