Another great video. Your even handed approach, without the drama, plays well with us old codgers. I like the paint brush. It works great. I have the Gen1 EX6 and EX4. You guessed correctly: the EX4 does heat up faster than the EX6. It's about 5 minutes faster 0 to 600. 15 minutes for the EX4 in Florida. Your evaluation of the light jibes with comments from members of our FB Smokefire group. My Butts and Briskets go from stall to finish in about the same time as my WSM and the difference may be that I do my low and slow cooks on the top cooking grate but I don't know for sure. I also don't have to contend with cold weather. My criticism of the pellet hopper is that it's inconvenient but I use an ice scoop to load the hopper. I prefer filling a side mounted pellet hopper. Rumor has it that Weber will release a new design pellet grill in 2024. I'm anxious to see their next step in the evolution of their design.

Thanks for the follow up. I'm thinking to go with the ELX4 after watching. Very good review.

Thanks for checking in! I went with the ELX6 because my Pitboss 1100 Pro didn’t have the upper rack space like the Weber, and I thought I’d need the space, since using the upper rack on the Pitboss posed issues with space. The Pitboss firebox is very close to the lower grill grates, so I smoked on the upper rack. With the Weber, the firebox is way below the lower grates and the upper rack for smoking is not needed. I use it as a an offset warmer. In retrospect, the ELX4 makes more sense.

Very interesting thoughts about this and very thorough video, well done.

My ex4 gets to searing at 450 grilled burgers steaks etc so I would agree the smaller area in the ex4 is probably the difference. That big thing needs two flame pots.

Thanks for checking in! Maybe so…. As that would require perhaps 2 auger feeds and seems this one is trouble enough with just one! Check out my fail videos. Thanks.

Once it’s wrapped just put it in the oven and save pellets. Thanks for the video I was thinking about buying this again now that they are getting clearanced out with new the one launching this month, I’ll just stick with my cheapo pit boss a little longer until Weber gets their act together.

Joe, thanks for checking in and for the supportive advice. Let’s see how the SearWood works out. As soon as I get mine, objective reviews to follow.

I get great sear on my ex6 I crank it up to 600 let it get to temp leave the lid open when you put your meat on you'll get great flare up

Thanks for checking in Robert. I’ve had one flame up (sear?) and I really didn’t like the flavor it signed into the meat. Fingers crossed the SearWood does a better job, but I’m guessing it’s going to be similar. I will resolve myself to reverse sear over my OK Joes FireCraft. Enjoy your cooks!

sorry that in the end this didn't work out for you. I have a Rectec 1250 and is simply fantastic.

Thanks for checking in! I do love the smoking capabilities. Just really disappointed in the lack of flame searing I was used to in my Pit Boss. How’s your 1250 do with flame searing?

Glad to see someone else has the same issue as me..i was disappointed in its searing capability. The store owner where i bought it said his is a searing machine. I couldn't agree with him

    • @sambosplace
      @sambosplace  8 месяцев назад

No sir. It’s unfortunately not doing the job for me. As I mentioned, I use my OK Joes Firecraft to reverse sear, and have it in my mind, that my next grill/smoker will be coal/wood. Having said that, this pellet grill truly delivers the smoke and does a nice job doing long low and slow cooks.

@@sambosplace I used to have the EX6 but after having some issues they changed it for the ELX6 Sear + and I am having trouble getting to the higher temp with the new one which is something I did not have before!! Also have an issue with the hopper... It seems disconected from the right shelf and feel very flimsy

I’m sorry to hear your troubles continue. Did you add the NOMAX heat tape to seal off the lid that bleeds heat and smoke? I did a video on that hack.
I’m troubled by the continued issues on my end. Now the second glow plug has died. TWO to THREE WEEKS wait from Weber for replacement. My grill has been down since 12/22. 😢

@@sambosplace yes, i have tape on the lid and it did not help on temp! I’m replacing it for a summit charcoal e6 with a griddle! Which comes down to the same value . They are discontinuing the smoke fire to replace it for the searwood which has more conventional design !

David, since that video and the advent of acquiring my SearWood, I have since switched up and included info in latter videos on the mix of charcoal pellets with hickory. I’ll never go back to straight wood. Thanks for checking in!
