ATTENTION PLEASE READ THIS PINNED COMMENT!!!!!!!
I really appreciate everybody watching as well as leaving thoughts and comments. I work full time and it’s very difficult to keep up with all the comments on this video. I would like to make it clear that this is NOT a Weber bashing video. I do not condone any harsh comments directed at them beyond asking them to pay attention to the issues and accept responsibility for some of the short comings. I really didn’t want to put this video out in some ways (I like to stay away from negativity whenever possible) but because of the serious nature of the grease fire potential, I felt that took top priority. Once again, thank you all very much for your support and constructive feedback. I hope you’ll subscribe and join my continued journey here on RUclips. Cheers!

I'm not sure how anyone could think this was about bashing Weber. It seemed clear to me that you really wanted to enjoy the product and felt bad having to say anything negative. But this does show a really dangerous problem that could cause injuries or damage to customers. I think you did what you had to do in the most honest and calm way possible. Stopping the video and then recording the next day was probably the smartest move - I'm not sure I could have controlled myself enough to do that.

Thank you very much for watching and for the kind words, Colin. I’m mostly a cooking channel but recently I’ve gotten into reviews and they have generated a lot of interest so I’m getting more into them as I go. Once I realized where this video was going, I left out any thoughts of additional editing such as music, lighting etc. it was really an emotional roller coaster of disappointment for me. I really hope the video helps people and most importantly keeps them aware and SAFE. That was my primary concern. Thank you again for watching, my friend.

I am a pretty avid griller. I wasn't specifically looking to buy this grill, but I came across this video in my recommendations. The time, thought and quality of this review was excellent; but what really impressed me and made me hit the subscribe button was because of your position on helping the regular everyday working joe. Guys like us just want to make good food for our families to enjoy together. Everything is getting outrageously expensive. Most people can't just throw money around. While some manufacturers are continuously innovating, many are just cutting corners and producing the absolute cheapest product available. This seems to be epidemic when it comes to outdoor grills. Thanks for the review.

Thank you for the detailed analysis of the Weber product. I am a huge fan of Weber and was prepared to purchase this based on my previous experiences. Although, I was planning to take a moment and understand pellet grilling as this would be my first time. 1 - you have a great personality, demeanor, and you deliver the content extremely well good or bad news. 2 - your disposition identifies with most of us out there trying to grill in the best way we can using the best products available to us. 3 - You are not obtuse, dismissive, or snobbish - which some folks I have watched come across as. I do not care if your videos are deemed to be long by others - keep them coming and keep them as long as they need to be. The information is appreciated. Wanted.

I try to keep my videos shorter for the most part but there was no way to get all the necessary information out and tell the story properly without it being a bit long. This was a hard video to do for many reasons. I felt awful at first, but the truth is the truth and safety is always paramount to me. I’m glad I did it in hindsight. Again, thank you very much 🙏

Great review, I'm so glad you did it and I saw it before buying one of these myself! I am a long time Weber fan and was really excited when I heard about them finally coming out with a pellet grill. I was going to sell my current pellet grill to get the Weber one, well now I'm not. I hope Weber has viewed this, and even reached out to you to get more information in order to address the issues you pointed out. Great job again and thanks!

Thank you very much for watching and commenting, Michael 🙏. Unfortunately, it’s been much the opposite. Instead, they’ve decided that discrediting negative reviews and pretending there are no problems is the best route for them to continue to sell these things lol. Their problem, not mine. My cooker is back at Lowe’s and my money is back in my bank account.

I just watched Justin's review on this and I'm sure you have too by now. Both of you had grease fires on the first cook!!! Thank you so much for the heads up Mike! Not for me, but for anyone thinking about buying this. Maybe Weber needs to stick to what made them what they are, or at least know beyond a doubt that this was ready and safe for launch. I can hear your disappointment in this video and sorry for the experience you had with it, but I deeply appreciate you taking the time to warn everyone about the pitfalls and danger of this pellet grill. I know you also own last years CC Woodwind and so do I. I've had no problems whatsoever with it and was offered the new WIFI model recently, but I'm holding out for the new LSG pellet smoker that's coming this spring. They have been working on this for over two years now, so I'm really anxious to see it and hopefully cook on it. Take care brother and thank you!

Good review...and I’m not even in the market to buy one. You just got another subscriber.
I’ve been grilling and smoking for over 45 years, and I just don’t really see these combo units as being all that good. I run three grills: an old cast aluminum charcoal unit, an older Weber gasser with grillgrates, and an old Traeger “Lil Tex.” The Weber has NEVER failed to light on the first push of the button, and the Traeger has performed flawlessly all of the years I’ve had it. Now, I NEVER run my Traeger at high temps...only use it for smoking. Grilling/searing is done on the gasser or charcoal. Like you, I clean my Traeger after just a few smokes. I know that some folks don’t have the room for three grills, but that’s what works best for me. I just don’t think that it is a good idea to run these pellet smokers, with all of their electronics, at high temps. That just seems like looking for trouble. Anyway, that’s all just IMHO. Thanks for the review...

When I bought my gas weber 12 years ago at Ontario Gas BBQ in Concord Ontario Canada. The front stainless doors were not aligned , never stuck to the magnet right. Always bugged me. Since then the floor has rotted out...fortunately my son repaired it with a wood floor. Now a wheel is rusted and rotted out.I now use bricks to keep it level. My electronic lighter lasted a year. I replaced it and got a year and a half out of the next one.Since then I throw a match. My brother in law bought a Napoleon the same time, and unlike mine his frame is still structurally intact. On the positive side I always got even heat...very important. The flavour bars and burners have lasted and still work. That is impressive.

I like your review and that you were not "sponsored" to make the review. There are a lot of features to like about this new Weber smoker.
As a former Weber grill owner, I've been happy with their products and ability to buy replacement parts easily at the big box stores.
Currently, I own a Rec-Tec RT-750 pellet grill. Just like Weber, it's American made. For about the same price, (and from what I saw in your review), the Rec-Tec is far superior in terms of quality materials.
I'm still a Weber fan and I hope they make improvements as needed with this new smoker.

    Nice review Mike.
I've owned one for a year and my opinion is you did the right thing sending it back.
Over the past year I've had the controller interface die on me twice. You don't notice it until you're about to do a cook, and then you're in bad shape. The first time I had to cook a brisket in the oven because I had people coming over, it turned out about how you'd expect. The second time I was under no pressure, but I did have to put a prime brisket and pork shoulder back into the freezer for 3 weeks.
I have had the grease fire situation, in my opinion this grill shouldn't be operated over 300 degrees. It's not safe.
Add to all of that, the grill temperature isn't accurate. This was my introduction into smoking meat, and while I needed some trial and error it took me about 6 months to figure out that my smoker was sabotaging me. It wasn't until I got an external probe that I found this out.
    Examples:
    * One cook I set the grill to 225, my thermoworks showed I was running between 250 and 350.
    * Another cook I wanted 250, so I set it at 200 thinking it would run hot... it stayed right at 200. Even changing the temperature target up to 275 had little effect, like its mind was made up it was staying low.
    * Last cook I did I set it at 200, it stayed between 230 and 250, then it changed to 260-300 for about 3 hours, and then it went back down to 230-250.
I'd be okay if the temperature was just off, but it being so inconsistent makes it pretty much unpredictable. I fully understand that the temps need to swing up and down because the pellets need to catch fire and stuff, but these temps are all over the board. I've got no clue what it's going to do.
At this point I've got a Weber representative coming out next week, they've mailed me a bunch of parts that he's going to replace.
I'm pretty much done with this thing. I'll never own another pellet smoker again. The good news is that over the past year I've got a better idea of what I really want. New "non-Weber" smoker comes in January so after that I'll probably just run over this piece of work with the tractor. Never again will I let a piece of technology get in the way of my smoke, just fire and steel from here on out.
Sorry didn't mean to pile on or anything, but I've been through it with Weber and at this point this life-long customer might never buy another one of their products again.

    • @EverydayBBQ
      @EverydayBBQ  2 года назад +2

It’s very unfortunate but they are in a state of denial and so are most of the customers that purchased it because they don’t want to admit they made a mistake. My biggest concern is safety for people and I think this particular cooker is unsafe. Thank you for watching and for your feedback.

@@EverydayBBQ Had yet another issue since the last comment, figured you might be interested. Weber sent somebody out and they replaced all of the internals a couple weeks ago. Tested it and it seemed to be okay,
Fired it up at 6am on Christmas eve with family over and friends coming, so I had a brisket, some spareribs, and a pork shoulder for the weekend festivities. I fired it up with the spareribs first, and with the updates it seemed the temperature issue was resolved, it hit the target temp nicely and stayed where it was supposed to be. I was pretty happy, yet skeptical, for about 90 minutes.
Unfortunately skepticism won. My signals probe alerted me of low temperature, so I went out and found the fire went out. Took it apart and found the pellet bowl full and the auger just pumping new ones into it. The igniter failed, pellets couldn't catch fire because of this, and so it was over. For good this time.
I sent Weber a pretty blistering email, they were closed on Christmas eve so I couldn't call. They're contacting a freight company to come get this pile of garbage and they've said they're going to process a full refund of the ex6 and the cover.
Really wanted this thing to work but man, nothing but trouble. It's crazy that this has 4.5 stars on Amazon.

Mike, I don't want this to come off sounding like a commercial, but I purchased a Rec Tec RT 700 about 8 months ago, and couldn't be happier with both the construction of the grill, ( its built like a tank) the quality of the food, and the unbelievable customer service. This model comes with a 6 year bumper to bumper warranty no questions asked. You call Rec Tec and your call is answered in a couple of rings. You can talk to customers service, tech support, one of their 3 full time chefs, also one of the partners, Ray Carnes, is available if you need to talk to him. When you buy a grill he gives you his cell phone number. He also follows social media, and will answer question on Facebook. Temperature wise, in the summer months I had the Bull up to 570 degrees, in the single digit weather it came up to 520 degree. I use grill grates for searing, unbelievable flavor. Smoke flavor is good, if I want extra smoke, I use a smoke tube. I think grease fires are possible on any pellet cooker. With all Rec Tec models there is a full grease pan that drains to a bucket. I foil my drip pan, and change it out every couple of cooks. No chance for a grease fire. From a price point the RT 700 comes in at about $1,200.00 and has a single level cooking surface of 702 sq in.
There are add ons. An interior 2nd shelf, a front folding shelf, plus a few more. I'd return the Weber and try a Rec Tec RT700.
So I don't sound like a just a one trick pony. I also have a Pit Barrel Cooker, 26.75 Weber Charcoal grill with a rotisserie, a 5' x 2' charcoal event grill, and a gas grill. I love them all and each serves a purpose. In conclusion, the RecTec RT 700 is the mac daddy of pellet grills.
Mike, I love your videos, I enjoy all your tips, and I've learned some new tricks from you. Hope my comment helps

Thank you for all the time an effort in making the video. I’ve owned vertical smokers in the past and have wanted a horizontal smoker so I could do a whole brisket and in general larger quantities of food. I heard Weber was coming out with a pellet smoker and I held off buying one until there were some reviews out there. I own a Weber grill so I’m familiar with their good quality. But before spending a grand on a smoker I wanted some feedback from actual users of this smoker. Your video really helps. I’m just sorry you were dissatisfied and disappointed with it. Hopefully Weber will take your review seriously and get their act together. I guess I have to wait a little longer before getting a pellet smoker grill because I want to see if Weber corrects all theses issues. I have subscribed to your channel. Thanks again !

MIke, this is a phenomenal review and i could not agree with you more in terms of how you feel emotionally about investing the amount of $$ you did and the outcome that did not prevail. I for one am a CampChef woodwind owner and can say with more than a year's worth of cooks, this grill has been awesome. I don't believe any grill truly has the Wifi issue figured out yet. Invested $1700 in a Trager with WiFire and it was ABSOLUTELY horrible. App never worked, never could connect to Wifi and customer service from Trager was horrendous. I'm so shocked that Weber did not have this more figured out as i was actually considering giving my Camp Chef to my brother and buying this exact grill. Like you, i was PUMPED when i heard and saw what Weber was about to unleash on the pellet grill industry. My advice, go with a rock solid pellet grill, no wifi needed (that's not part of of pellet grilling) maintain and clean it and i believe you'll be rewarded. I'm 100% with you on the CampChef... not to mention the slide and grill technology along with the SearBox on the Camp Chefs are AWESOME!!

*First of all, love the Video! Very detailed and I took a look at the Weber Pellet Cookers today and saw the exact experience you actually had playing out in my head* 🤣
I’ll take one more Pro from Weber yet: you said the auger design was innovative. While it is an awesome design, I love it, but the Louisiana Grills 800 Elite has had that for years: the short auger angled up, with a Shute guiding the pellets into a lower burn pot, preventing back burn. Love that design. The LG800 even has the removable burn pot so you just take it out by hand, dump the ash, put it back in and boom, burn pot cleaned, without a Vac or tools, in less than 10 seconds if you have the grates and shield/baffle off.
I wish my Traegers had that too..
I’ve owned two Pitboss’s, still own two Traegers, and recently picked up a Coleman Cookout Pellet Grill.
Now my Traegers are collecting dust because I love that Coleman so much! Especially for the price.. I’m missing Wifi/BT but the rest is on par or far better..
Oh and did I mentioned insulated Cooking chamber?
Weber’s chamber is not really insulated IMO, it’s just double walled on the sides, like some of the new Traeger Models.
But the Cookout is actually insulated all around except the bottom floor, heck even the lid, like the Timberline. And it has the seal felt tape on it too with a fancy swivel mechanism on the lid, keeping more heat trapped while lid is opened.
Other pros: massive screen, same dial as Weber with push and turn, has a built in timer with alarm, shows when igniter is heating (at start up) and it shows when the fan and auger are going, plus two meat probes. Also has a 150 second auger charge feature.
The fit and finish on the Coleman Cookout are very impressive actually, the legs lined up beautifully like a Ballerina, super sturdy, solid casters and I love the design shape of the chamber with good grates.
Cons: the 150 second auger/prime feature is a safety hazard as well, and it heats up slower than my Traegers/Pitboss’s do (but it keeps better temperature hands down, so there is that trade off..)
Maybe I should do a video of it?? Lol
Anyway, thanks for making the video.
My brother in law is in love with the Weber Pellet Grill but I’ll be sure to send him this video..
Best of luck to anybody still reading…

It’s good that you showed the good and the bad. With bbq I believe in the KISS philosophy. That is why I went with a ceramic. It’s air flow, amount of charcoal and amount of oxygen. Granted it’s messier when cleaning and setting up than a gasser or pellet. But the wide range of functions and reliability and consistency far out weigh the negatives.

Yah, for that kind of money you want it to last, you’d probably get a couple years out of that and I wonder how customer service would be? My self I have a REC TEC 6 yrs now, replaced fan motor once $20 it still runs perfect and cleans up really nice. Never had any flame ups or grease issues, I clean pot after several cooks or after any long over night cooks, aluminum foil on drip pan, only takes a couple minutes. Anyway, the drum is even made of stainless on the new models, WiFi, 2 built in probes, would literally be last grill you’d need to buy. I work for a living too and this was absolutely one of my best purchases of my life, it’s awesome. I smoke, bake and grill on this thing. I’m not affiliated with Rec TEC but man this is a great product and customer service for your hard earned money, just wanted share.

My patio area is not covered so my pellet smoker is out in the summer elements. The mfgr’s cover is a serious piece of work. Very much a near leather quality and thickness. Cover is going on 5th season and still in great shape. Was $79 cover. It is not a glorified yard bag.

Everyone had such high expectations from this cooker, myself included, with the apparent innovations. I'll still keep watching for what Weber does with this but what you're saying and others also are some serious safety issues in my opinion. No grills are perfect and you always need to be safety conscious at every cook but to have a grease fire issue on the first cook is a real concern and recipe for disaster.

Mike, I know how you feel. i bought a Weber Genesis II GS4. It was extremely well made and a beauty but it wouldn't get hot enough to sear a steak. Paid $1400 for it, sold it for $600 with the original bottle of gas. Initial reviews of the Weber Summit Charcoal revealed smoke leaks due to a poorly designed hinge. Now the SmokeFire. The innovations are excellent. The execution, not so much.

Thank's Mike for a very honest review. For 1200 bucks your Weber Grill should have a better fit and build. I own 2 other Weber grills. Have had no problems with them. Weber should stick what it does best. Charcoal grills and smokers. I was really excited about getting a pellet grill and having Weber make one, I thought this would be it. It well be staying at Lowe's. Way too many problems with this grill for me to spend 1200 dollars..And, a final point. Weber does use cheap wheels and casters on their grills. They need to update these as soon as possible. Weber is still a good company and their products are usually good quality. But, sometimes their thinking is not thought out..

I think all they can really do is band aid some of this. There’s no fixing it IMHO without going back to the drawing board. That will also cause them to remove some of the features that were supposed to be this cookers claim to fame. It’s a shame.

Thanks for the honest take. In hindsight it seems obvious that this would have issues. But Weber has such a good reputation that when they claim to have worked out the problems with this design it's easy to believe them. And we all wanted to believe them because the performance is industry-changing. This is going to do serious damage to their reputation, and rightfully so. I can't imagine it not ending in a stop sale and recall. It's just really hard to understand what they heck they were thinking.

I think you worded this exactly the way I think of it in my mind and my heart. It’s disappointing to say the least and I did go into it with blind Faith because of the Weber name even though my commonsense told me that these problems were a possibility and I was skeptical even at the beginning of the video before I knew for sure what was going to happen.

Great review! First one I have seen where I felt the review was genuine and honest, listing pros and cons. I have been waiting for Weber to come out with a smoker for a while now, I own several Weber products and can say they are a great company and typically have great products. Looks like they missed the mark on this one, I am glad I kept my GMG and did not make the jump before seeing a few reviews....Especially this one. Mike,Thank you for your candor relative to your review,I must say you made the correct decision to send it back.It is really a shame it was sent out with so many defects.Weber is owned by BDT Capital partners so they are not the Weber family of old.I went with a komodo grill as they are superior to pellet or WSM,no water pan to clean,no electric, and runs low and slow despite the ambient temperature it could be like zero. And it doesn't matter. The price has come down, considerably and runs on lump all day. This is just my opinion.

Thank you so much for this review! I was literally about to purchase that Weber smokefire from Lowe’s and then saw your review AND all the comments about the performance (or lack there of) and danger of using this grill. I also noticed that the floor model at Lowe’s was practically falling apart. Not a good sign for a grill that hasn’t even been used in the elements. If it falls apart on the showroom floor image what it will do in your backyard. Anyways I purchased the GMG Daniel Boone prime plus and couldn’t be happier.

Good honest review. I agree safety is a huge factor here. You know as well as I do that most people think a pellet grill is set and forget and go about your day. Good way to burn a house down.
