I really love watching chickens . They seem lower my stress level. I really would like for them to have a chicken run.

Asia you can use that pine shaving/ chicken poop in your tomatoes great compost the wood shaving keeps the nitrogen down and the chicken waste is very good for you plants would be careful on cucumbers they need more nitrogen and the wood shavings sucks nitrogen out of the soil awesome job great video

Out here in the rural Louisiana woods, you definitely gotta be more wary of predators. I use PVC pipe and flexible plastic fencing to make a run that I can move every season to a different spot. I have a wood/metal coop and a metal/chicken wire pen with a solar powered timer door that protects them at night though.
Very interesting to see the differences between urban and rural backyard chickens!

Hello Asia.. I really love the video lol.. we started and got our chickens as well from Tractor Supply the same time you did too. We brooded our chickens in a tote in the spare room of our home. We give them organic pellets and the organic scratch too, i can't think of the name dang but as they grow you get the same as they grow in age. I love the fact we know what food we give our birds it's healthy and we are eating good as well. I took free pallets and made there coop and we used a big dog kennel for the run. We also use pine shavings from TS too. I just love the fact we can get free eggs and compost. I too give them microgreens, love, and scraps. I believe in doing that and talking too them they produce you more eggs!🥰🥰. I love the video..

Hi! Thank you! Good job in the coop build! I totally wish I could build a coop that is to my liking but I think imma leave that alone lol. They love the microgreens. I’m going to start some this weekend since the weather has changed. Do you give yours scratch during the cold season? Thanks again!

St Louis city has lots of predators! We have a hawk that sits on my cattle panel trellis trying to catch the field mice in my yard. One VERY large opossum comes through nightly to see if there is anything interesting. I have lost 2 quails to domestic cats, and 6 likely to a mink. Just beheaded all of them and left the bodies uneaten. I say mink because, someone on Next Door posted a picture of one in the alley a few days later. And, there are also constant pictures of coyotes on Next Door. It is not what I expected at all. In some way it is comforting to know nature is adapting.

Very interesting. We aren’t allowed to have chickens so I am fascinated and also think I would be scared but would love the fresh eggs. Why would a chicken pecking you be upsetting to someone else?

Just finding your channel. I love yours setup. I was curious, what is the dimensions of your outdoor run/coop? I would love to get 3 or 4 chickens in my fenced in backyard but want to fence off a smaller portion of the yard like you did, to keep them out of my berries and kids pool and toys.

Hi! Welcome to the channel! I’m not sure if the size but it’s pretty small. Over next week I’ll try to remember to measure it and mention it in a video. I’ve found that they don’t need a whole lot of space in my experience.

A stray chicken ended up in the alley next to my home, so I fed her and coaxed her into my yard…I was planning on getting chickens or quail anyway…so now have a small coup…but there are several stray cats and I have two cats. They leave adult chickens alone, as the chickens are big. Chicks would be a different matter.

@txLALA I don't know if u purchased ur chicken yet. I am late to watch this video. I just wanted to tell u, before u purchase, make sure u call ur town hall to make sure u can have chickens/farm animals. You don't want to do the whole chicken set-up and a neighbor calls animal rescue on ur animals due to city/town limits. When you get the ok from ur town hall, then ur all set to go. Good luck.

Raccoons, feral cats and hawks all live in and around most, if not all, urban settings. they are in Central Park in New York city and other parks. We have even had Coyotes wander all the way into central NYC and along the rivers. If you do not have a covering on the top, you will lose them one day. There are predators everywhere humans live, and they travel between green spaces like parks, alleys and yards. Good Luck.
