Great reasons! Didn’t realize it was parfocal. And completely agree with sharpness. You can always make a sharp lens not sharp. But a not sharp lens can’t really be made sharp!
Thank you so much for your kind words and support! Yeah, I was surprised to find out that it is par focal too! And yes, that’s why I prefer a sharper lens to begin with unless you want a specific softer look like on vintage lenses.
Hi Henry, Thanks for the parafocal tip! I’m using the Canon R5 but using a metabones speedbooster for my EF primes, 35 and 85/1.4. I am debating between Canon’s 24-70/2.8 USM ii vs Sigma’s for both stills and videos. Have you done a comparison between the two and what the tradeoffs are?
Just use your crop factor multiplied by focal length. Doesn't matter the model. All APS-C cameras are 1.5x (apart from Canon 1.6x). So in 4k30 you have 36-105mm f/4.2 equivalent. If you shoot in 4k60 which is a 1.18 x 1.5 = 1.77x crop, it becomes 42-124mm f/4.9 equivalent. If you use 1.29x crop fix, 1.29 x 1.5 = 1.94x. It almost behaves like a micro four thirds, so 47-136mm f/5.4. The equivalent apertures are for depth of field relative to full frame. The exposure will still be f/2.8.
The Sigma 24-70mm for Sony doesn't have Stabilization, I wonder if I got the EF version and then used an adapter, would it retain all the AF features + Stabilization?
i want the sigma 24mm 1.4 and the 18-35 and the 24-70 and the 70-200 all from sigma i love what i'm hearing from them so i want to start getting these camera lenses. i really like what i see so i want to know how good sigma art series is. henry can you help me with a good flash to go with my camera?
Hi bro, great video! Last year I bought the same lens Sigma 24-70mm, seriously good lens and also, I have the same BMPCC 6K, but I do not know how to use that parfocal thing, cause any time when I zoom out or zoom in it's not AF and stays out of focus. Can you please advise me? Just upgraded my BMPCC to a new version 7.9. Cheers and thanks! ;)
Every source I can find says that this is not a parafocal lens. What is your source that it is? In your test it looks like you have AF on for the zoom...
This was VERY helpful. As a (total) beginner who never used cinema cameras before, I was wondering what lens to get first for the BMPCC6k, for both indoor and outdoor use. Looks like the 24-70mm f/2.8 is a no-brainer here. The only nagging doubt I still have is if it will be good enough for night scenes, e.g. in dimly lit streets... or if a f/1.8 or f/1.4 lens would be unavoidable. Not sure yet about high ISO performance of the BMPCC6k. Will have to try it our once the 24-70mm arrives. Keeping my hopes high.
That’s a great question! We have never used the Metabones speed booster before, but since this is a full frame lens, it should be better when it comes to vignetting. Hope it helps! Thank you so much for your support on the video!
That’s a great question! The focus ring is stiffer than the Sigma 18-35, definitely not as light, but still smooth. Hope it helps! Thank you so much for your support on the video!
@@henrymediagroup That is actually great to hear! I am really thinking about grabbing this lens but wasn't sure if it felt really mushy compared to the canon 24-70
I contacted B&H and I asked them what's a good lens for use on a BMPCC 6K in a podcast where the camera is about 3 to 8ft away. How do you feel about that?
You are very welcome! We have been adapting the lens to the BMPCC4K and the GH5 using the Viltrox speed booster. So far everything works except if we update the speed booster the BMPCC4K cannot display or control the aperture of the lens. Hope it helps! Thank you so much for your support on the video!
So, I have this lens with a Pocket 4k and MB .64 and it is not even close to par focal. Any advise on whether this can be fixed? The lens is cool for the most part but that is a huge gripe I have.
That's a great question! I have never adjusted a Metabones speed booster before, but Gerald Undone has a great video on how to adjust the speed booster to help making the lens parfocal, you should check it out! I adjusted my Viltrox speed booster and it works fine. Hope it helps! Thank you so much for your support on the video!
That’s a great question! If you do a lot of spontaneous filming that doesn’t allow you to have time to setup, and you usually film in a bigger open space, the 24-70 is a great choice because of its range and image stabilization. If you usually have time to set things up and you are always filming in a tight space, 18-35 will be better because of its wider angle. Hope it helps! Thank you so much for your support on the video!
Yeah, I was surprised that it is parfocal too! If you are using a speed booster, you can adjust it to help making your lenses parfocal. Thank you so much for your support on the video!
Thank you so much for your kind words and support! That’s a great question! We have never used the Metabones speed booster, but I remember Gerald Undone has done a video showing how to make the Metabones speed booster par focal. With our Viltrox speed booster, we just need to carefully turn the glass, mount it back onto the camera and keep repeating the process until it is par focal with the lens. Hope it helps!

Hey! Thanks for the great information. btw, I'm a canon crop mirrorless user(m6 mark2) and I'm thinking to get this lens. (also I was considering maybe get a sigma 50mm/85mm art. If I don't buy 24-70 lens) Would you still recommend me to get this or...is there a better option? I little worry about the weight. I'm not quite sure if my camera can hold this lens.
You are very welcome! I’m glad that you found the video informative! If you are planning to stay with APSC Canon cameras, this lens will definitely be very heavy for your setup. Sigma does have many lens options for APSC cameras, but unfortunately we have never tried them ourselves. Hope it helps! Thank you so much for your support on the video!
This lens isn’t focus by wire but to answer part of your question, focus pulls on a focus by wire lens is very difficult and unpredictable. Hence why I’m selling my 24-70 canon RF for this lens.
