Thank you so very much. I am an old man who can now sit in my kitchen with my 50 year old acoustic and play and sing a song I loved as a youngster. You made it so very easy for me.
I'm a beginner guitar player and I will try this even though it's not easy for me. 05:04 For example in the beginning when I strum the strings, even when starting from the fourth string, the sound of the fourth string is not heard like a separate tone like it is in your video, but I have to play that string separately first to make it sound distinct (and can then strum right afterwards, but there will be a slight delay between the sound of the string and the strum). If you can think of any specific things I can practice to make this song easier, please let me know!
Hi. Sorry to hear you are having an issue with your fourth string sounding correctly. If you are using a capo as per my lesson, my first thought is that the capo may not be fretting the fourth string cleanly. Does it sound ok if you just play the fourth string on it's own? If not, your capo may need to be tighter or repositioned slightly so it's nearer the 2nd fret. Ivor
Hi Jack. Thank you for your feedback. I'm glad that you have found my lesson helpful. I have a lesson on 'Catch The Wind' on my channel if you haven't seen it already. Ivor
it's interesting how many folk musicians favour open tunings and rather simple progressions while still maintaining a definitive style...thanks for the tutorial! I'll definitely be revisiting this when I get some new strings in the post. Had a bit of an accident with a couple of them while doing some Nick Drake tunings lol
Hi Carl. Yes, that does seem to be the case. It does sometimes make the fingering of chords simpler which if you are singing as well might be an advantage. Thank you for your feedback. I'm glad that you found my lesson helpful. Stay safe and well. Ivor
@@ivorsorefingers you too, my friend. I've had a look at a bunch of your other tutorials and I'm glad you do what you do. I've subscribed and look forward to continue to learn.
A good lesson on a Donovan classic plus some very useful technical information regarding D - Tuning. I will have to look for other songs in same tuning to make it worth tuning down. Think Keith Richard used same tuning for many Stones songs. Makes playing chords much easier if only using one finger!
Hi L71. The best quality guitar within your budget is my advice. If it's within your budget check out a Taylor GS Mini or a Taylor 'Baby' both would be an excellent first guitar in my opinion. Ivor
Can I please ask what Capo you are using? It looks very solid for such a small unit. Watching you attach it - I can't figure the locking mechanism. Thanks for the great tutorial. My wife loves Donavan. (She would know this song) Again many thanks. :)
Hi Steve. Thank you for your feedback. I'm glad that you have found my lesson helpful. My capo is a 'G7th Performance 2'. There is now an improved 'Performance 3' version. Very solid and less bulky than most other capo's. It has a squeeze on/off mechanism. They have a website (G7th.com). Ivor
Hi Ivor, You once helped me out before and I'm wondering if you could make a tutorial of John Mayer's version of I Got a Woman from his TRY! album. I'm especially curious about the verse and chorus. Thanks in advance and keep up the good work!
How in the world do you present 2 videos a day? You are my go-to guy for these great classics! Thank You!!

You could start with the tuning, which appears to be DADGAD.
