But how did his life get started? What was his journey to becoming a huge star and prominent philanthropist?
Danny Thomas was born in Michigan and grew up in Toledo, Ohio. His parents were Lebanese Catholic immigrants, and both his ethnic origins and religious faith played a tremendous influence on his life.
He moved to Chicago as a young man to pursue a career as a radio entertainer and nightclub performer. It wasn’t long until he became a huge star on the radio. He played a variety of characters on different radio comedy programs. Eventually, he was given a chance to star in his own radio show.
But radio wasn’t enough, and he wanted to graduate to the visual medium. In the late 1940s, he began his film career and found a few supporting roles in major Hollywood productions. He eventually became a film star when he played the lead role in the film The Jazz Singer.
But in the middle of his burgeoning film career, he decided he wanted to try something new. He decided to act in television shows, knowing that this was the new medium of the future. He eventually became the star of his own show on TV and had a great career appearing on some of America’s most popular TV shows. He even served as an executive producer for many shows.
He also dedicated his life to philanthropy and began the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in 1962. He worked till just two days before he died and was dedicated to entertaining and helping others.

I think one of the funniest episodes of the Danny Thomas Show was when he first met Andy Griffith as Sheriff Taylor. Their interactions and his self depreciating sense of humor still makes me laugh! Thank you Mr. Thomas for EVERYTHING!
Absolutely loved Danny Thomas! He was a wonderful talent and man, I think. ❤️👏🏻👏🏻He started the St. Jude’s hospital for sick children. To me, that’s a good heart! ❤️🙏🏻💐🕊️
He is a hero for founding St. Jude Hospital for Children! Many families and children owe their lives to his caring and kindness. More wealthy people and celebrities need to follow his example and we would rid the world of major and life threatening illnesses and diseases. God Bless You Mr. Thomas and your daughter, Marlo who carries on your legacy. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
My father was a friend of his here in Toledo

IT IS TRULLY SAD that so many people have NEVER heard of him..
Nice tribute, well-deserved. And his daughter Marlo continues to publicize the work of St Jude’s Children’s Hospital. What a grand legacy!

I still remember that Golden Girls episode where Blanche asked Dorothy and Sophia who were sharing their bed together that night. They were talking about Dorothy's lesbian friend staying with them. Blanche says to Dorothy, " I don't know much about lesbians but isn't Danny Thomas one". Dorothy says back to her, " Not Lebanese Blanche, lesbian". That line was so funny and cute at the same time. Sophia later said that Rose will so disappointed when she finds out that Danny Thomas is a lesbian.
Great guy!

I always tried to catch as many reruns of Make Room for Daddy/The Danny Thomas Show as I could during high school and always enjoyed it. Although they titled all of the episodes as "Make Room for"! Marlo Thomas has also been instrumental in keeping her father's legacy alive with her own star power regarding St Jude's!
We're happy to know that you're a fan of Danny! Thank you for sharing your life story. May Danny find peace 😢
"Make Room For Daddy," was my all time favorite of Danny Thomas. Although, everything he stared in was good, he was a good actor.

I met him in Chicago when I was a teenager. He was so nice and took time to talk to us.
I watched a video of Marlo Thomas & Phil Donahue going through the museum at St.Jude's. As she looked at the photos & such of her parents, you could see how much she loved & respected them. Danny Thomas & his wife are in a mausoleum on the grounds of St.Jude's. He was a great actor but an even better man & father.
Never new much about Danny Thomas other than St. Jude Hospital, and i don't believe I've seen any of his performances, but have read about him. Thanks for assembling this video.

Loretta Young was the Godmother for Marlo Thomas. In 1946 she played a nun in the movie Come to the Stable. It was a wonderful movie where she was on a mission to found a hospital for children called Saint Jude Hospital for Children. I wonder if this movie had any influence on Danny on what he did? He and Loretta Young were good friends and both devote Catholics. Tom Bush
He is actually my cousin and we are all proud of this man. He never fell for the smut and garbage that we see today. He kept it clean and honorable. St. Jude's is a testimony to his faith.
Fun stuff, thanks for sharing! What other types of video would you like to see?

A GREAT --GREAT Man ....
We absolutely agree! Thank you for watching our content. Which film of Danny appealed to you the most?
A Great Man makes every Lebanese very proud
Yes indeed, a name that I will always remember & associate whenever I hear of ST. JUDE. I too remember him fondly too in Make Room For Daddy(not granddaddy), along side Marjorie Lord (wife),Angela Cartright (daughter), Rusty Gamer (son), & Hans Conreid as Uncle Tonouse (sometime appearance). I used to have a crush on Linda, his daughter. He had another wife on the show but I don't recall her name. DT would make mention of ST. JUDE Hospital at the end of every show. He would often do this after every other appearance too. His real life daughter Marlo has taken over the battan & kept up the drive for support of the hospital. GOD may have taken him far to soon but his legacy lives on & will live on as long as ST. JUDES exists. GOD BLESS him & Marlo too.🙏💓
He was the dad I wished I had
He was a man that other men and women can never live up to. If there is a heaven than he's there

They should make a movie about this men and having all proceeds going to the children’s hospital

Favorite Danny Thomas role? Kolak of Twylo!
My favorite memory of Danny Thomas was in an episode of Make Room for Daddy when he wouldn’t accept a parking ticket and brought his case to court despite everyone telling him that you can’t fight city hall. I won’t spoil it for everyone but I recommend that everyone look for the episode and watch it through its hilarious ending.
I remember watching “Make Room for Daddy” and Uncle Tonoose.
Us too! Thank you for bringing back memories. What other types of video would you like to see?
How amazing does the Danny Thomas show measure up today against the greatest family comedies of the 50’s 60’s. At the time I watched first release dick van dyke and Andy Griffith, my opinion of Danny’s show was it didn’t look as great but then I didn’t connect the dots of how Danny’s show spawned Andy. Apart from Lucy , Danny was certainly the pioneer of great tv entertainers
why not show the clip?
I respect Mr. Thomas he started a hospital they would help many children many families many people and he didn't do it to save his acting career he didn't do it so he can get his name in the spotlight one last time he did it because he was a good man he was a good Catholic he was a good father and he was a good person I have a friend whose son has cancer and even though she may not be able to take him to Saint Jude because of Danny Thomas there is a part of the hospital they go to that is affiliated with his foundation I am absolutely honored to be giving my money two is charity next month not for fame know her fortune not for no Rady enough for praise for children I do this to help the little ones he did it to help the little ones when me and him even though he passed away before I was born see children with cancer we see heroes suffering and yes I am calling the kids heroes because anybody that can be told that they have a Life taking disease and they may not be able to even go to prom let alone and live up to prom and not start bowling is a hero to my eyes god bless you Mr. Thomas god bless you my hero

It was complete except they should have said how old he died.
I uses to get him confused with the guy that created wendys
Make video match dialogue!! You show TV footage while telling about RADIO shows.
Make Room for Daddy.
Thank youi for sharing your favorite Danny Thomas role. Which comes in at second place?
Think i'm related to him. Maiden name Tanoos
Big possibility!
He was Lebanese, are they considered Arabs?
Could it have been a heart attack gun?...
Usually reserved for disobedient slaves.
What are you talking about?
What an odd comment. I've never heard of such a thing. I just don't understand. I'm not sure anyone could understand your abstract comment.
@@curtischildress9580 Thanks.
It's in reference to the CIA's heart attack gun....look it up.
Americans are debt slaves and bond servants to the corperation know as the United States of America. Look up the "act of 1871" where they took away your right to own property and changing this once great republic into a "mob rules" democracy (they own both sides if ya hadn't noticed)
Also research the "s.s. act", the "federal reserve act", "the new deal", the unlawful ratification of the 14th amendment (redefining the term "Citizen"), the filing of chapter 11, bankruptcy of the Corp. of usa.
You probably won't
@@oldnurse I've always heard that ignorance is blissful.
@@BigPoppieSeed I'm somewhat familiar with the government acts you mention but I'm no expert. I just don't understand how you apply any of this to Danny Thomas...he was a humanitarian/actor/family man/reverant to God. Oh well. Enjoy the show & be well.
Great man! Love his daughter, Marlo!❤
