But how did his life get started? What was his journey to becoming a huge star and prominent philanthropist?
Danny Thomas was born in Michigan and grew up in Toledo, Ohio. His parents were Lebanese Catholic immigrants, and both his ethnic origins and religious faith played a tremendous influence on his life.
He moved to Chicago as a young man to pursue a career as a radio entertainer and nightclub performer. It wasn’t long until he became a huge star on the radio. He played a variety of characters on different radio comedy programs. Eventually, he was given a chance to star in his own radio show.
But radio wasn’t enough, and he wanted to graduate to the visual medium. In the late 1940s, he began his film career and found a few supporting roles in major Hollywood productions. He eventually became a film star when he played the lead role in the film The Jazz Singer.
But in the middle of his burgeoning film career, he decided he wanted to try something new. He decided to act in television shows, knowing that this was the new medium of the future. He eventually became the star of his own show on TV and had a great career appearing on some of America’s most popular TV shows. He even served as an executive producer for many shows.
He also dedicated his life to philanthropy and began the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in 1962. He worked till just two days before he died and was dedicated to entertaining and helping others.

I still remember that Golden Girls episode where Blanche asked Dorothy and Sophia who were sharing their bed together that night. They were talking about Dorothy's lesbian friend staying with them. Blanche says to Dorothy, " I don't know much about lesbians but isn't Danny Thomas one". Dorothy says back to her, " Not Lebanese Blanche, lesbian". That line was so funny and cute at the same time. Sophia later said that Rose will so disappointed when she finds out that Danny Thomas is a lesbian.

Loretta Young was the Godmother for Marlo Thomas. In 1946 she played a nun in the movie Come to the Stable. It was a wonderful movie where she was on a mission to found a hospital for children called Saint Jude Hospital for Children. I wonder if this movie had any influence on Danny on what he did? He and Loretta Young were good friends and both devote Catholics. Tom Bush

Yes indeed, a name that I will always remember & associate whenever I hear of ST. JUDE. I too remember him fondly too in Make Room For Daddy(not granddaddy), along side Marjorie Lord (wife),Angela Cartright (daughter), Rusty Gamer (son), & Hans Conreid as Uncle Tonouse (sometime appearance). I used to have a crush on Linda, his daughter. He had another wife on the show but I don't recall her name. DT would make mention of ST. JUDE Hospital at the end of every show. He would often do this after every other appearance too. His real life daughter Marlo has taken over the battan & kept up the drive for support of the hospital. GOD may have taken him far to soon but his legacy lives on & will live on as long as ST. JUDES exists. GOD BLESS him & Marlo too.🙏💓

How amazing does the Danny Thomas show measure up today against the greatest family comedies of the 50’s 60’s. At the time I watched first release dick van dyke and Andy Griffith, my opinion of Danny’s show was it didn’t look as great but then I didn’t connect the dots of how Danny’s show spawned Andy. Apart from Lucy , Danny was certainly the pioneer of great tv entertainers

Could it have been a heart attack gun?...

What an odd comment. I've never heard of such a thing. I just don't understand. I'm not sure anyone could understand your abstract comment.

      @@curtischildress9580 Thanks.
It's in reference to the CIA's heart attack gun....look it up.
Americans are debt slaves and bond servants to the corperation know as the United States of America. Look up the "act of 1871" where they took away your right to own property and changing this once great republic into a "mob rules" democracy (they own both sides if ya hadn't noticed)
Also research the "s.s. act", the "federal reserve act", "the new deal", the unlawful ratification of the 14th amendment (redefining the term "Citizen"), the filing of chapter 11, bankruptcy of the Corp. of usa.
      You probably won't

@@BigPoppieSeed I'm somewhat familiar with the government acts you mention but I'm no expert. I just don't understand how you apply any of this to Danny Thomas...he was a humanitarian/actor/family man/reverant to God. Oh well. Enjoy the show & be well.
