Joan was terrific! She was brave and bold enough to live life her way. Everyone told her she no talent, was too old and would never make it. She came from a comfortable well to do family. She married well to a department store heir when she was very young. However, she was bored and none of that mattered to her. She went her own way all her life. She was intelligent, sensitive, and quite complicated. I think she was a kind and generous friend to many and a terrible enemy to others. However, her brassy showbiz persona permanently typecast and limited her. She never understood that. Fox made a terrible mistake pitting The Late Show against Carson and not giving the show time to grow and build an audience. The show was first-rate and so was Joan. Look at any clips on RUclips.
