I have Crockett & Jones and Alden cap-toe derby shoes, both in shell. The look and feel is drastically different. The C&J is a much taller and more elongated shoe. Love both of them, but the Alden edges out a win for me because of the insane look of patinated color #8 shell. However, the dark brown C&J shell has an incredible depth of color, too, albeit more subtle from a distance. Also, despite the excellent finishing, the C&J laces snapped after 10 wears. Don't expect that with a $970 shoe.

Crockett & Jones RL Marlow loafers are on the fantastic 72 EX last. Beautiful and elegant, it is comfortable in the heel and snug enough on the forefoot. A great looking, round toe Tassel loafer.

It's funny that you mentioned that the tassel loafer was originally designer for kids coming out of college. I was into tassels when I got my first jobs out of school. In my 40s now and prefer oxfords and if I want to be casual I love the Alden penny loafer for jeans or dress shorts.

Great, thank you! I am sure that the burgundy ones together with shorts looked phenomenal as a very dressy and sophisticated way to wear......well....shorts! And I am sure you went sockless that particular time! ))) From Russia w/L, Vlad

GQ should hire this man to be their shoe fashion writer. He knows more about shoes from experience, ownership, and reading than those yuppies fashion writers that are clueless and aim straight for Italian rip-offs or Asian made that are trendy throwaways.

I’m with you, I think black tassel loafers are a great business casual shoe and look great with a suit. If it looks good who cares about the “rules”? Most people don’t work in such a sartorially conservative environment in any case.

Hi just some advice - in future consider fitting on the shoes so that we your audience watching your this video have an idea of what the contasts are between the various shoes you have on display. We would also like to have an opinion on how the shoes fit with a slack etc. Also, your sound is not audible at times. Thank you for taking the time out to make this video.

Unfortunately this will also attract perverts to your channel (sadly I’m not even joking).

Love your shoe review videos and your shoe collection. You have the finest selection of shell cordovan styles I have seen. I agree that tassel loafers are very versatile and look great with everything from suits to shorts. I see lots of guys wearing them sockless and think that they look great that way in warm weather. Because of your videos I now look for that suede lining in the heels of loafers that I plan to wear without socks. Don't you think that bit of extra lining makes a big difference in sockless comfort? Do you ever wear casual loafers such as Bass Weejuns? Did Bass every make shell cordovan Weejuns? That would be an interesting combination.

I was about to ask why you opted to buy the Ralph Lauren branded loafer instead of the regular Crockett & Jones version (which would cost less)... and then I discovered that C&J doesn't make their version in brown! I'm guessing you had to pay a ~44% markup for the Ralph Laurens, right? Too bad that's the only way to get them in brown.

As a German, I find them much too chunky. If Austro-Hungarian, I prefer Vass shoes.

No - but thank you. I really like them, so if I sold them, I would just need to re-buy them. Probably wear them ever other week.
