- These Shell Cordovan loafers came in for a new sole and heel replacement. Once we had the old sole off we replaced the old cork and went back with a oak bark pit tanned leather sole and combo heel. Then finished them off with a Saphir Polish.

A new pair of Alden shell cordovan loafers costs about $800, so it's well worth it to have them restored/reconditioned. I bought a pair of Alden shell cordovan oxfords when I was 21 for $200 and wore them until I was 45. I tried having them restored but the leather had torn. So, I bought my second pair for $500 which I'm still wearing at age 64.

Was that acetone you used to clean those off? I got a pair of vintage shell Florsheims in amazing condition, but they have some really stubborn old polish on them and I've been afraid to resort to acetone.
