    I have 10 pairs of shell cordovan 3 Allen Edmonds 3 Alden 4 Ralph Lauren/Crockett & Jones all purchased used on Ebay. They all are great quality but for me the Allen Edmonds are the most comfortable shoes. Best quality would go to Alden. All around between quality and comfort would be the RL.

    I tried the long wing in the Barrie last, in cordavan 11.5d, wearing a thicker sock and I had a bit of heel slip. I also tried an 11d with no sock because I didn't have a dress sock, It felt okay but I felt a little pressure on pinky.

    Hello great great review video been binging on your vids lately. Can you tell me the specific shoe name or identity of the Alden Blucher that is between your Macneil and Crocket. The Alden that is not the Long Wing? Thank you 🙏🏼

    Is that the correct use of the word "balmoral" ? seems to me that the 2 on the left are Oxfords, and the one in th middle is a balmoral ?

    I hate wingtips too!! had many pairs in my life, but not one in shell cordovan, I want to get my first pair in burgundy color 8, any recommendations for a shell cordovan newbie between AE Cambridge (last 65) and Alden 974 (Tremont last), in terms of fit and sizing , and what is your preference between the 2 ? The issue I have is that I just saw the AE ones so far, but they did not have them in my size....tomorrow I will try to see the Alden...maybe I'll check out Brooks brothers( thank to you ! ), I like their uniqueness. I found your video at the perfect time in my quest, thank you for the education!! Thanks for the tips ( pun intended! )

    • @daddyosreviews
      @daddyosreviews  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the comment. However, I don’t think you meant what your first sentence says. At any rate, I find Cambridge to be longer than 974, but 974 to be roomier. I would recommend you start with going down 1/2 size to start, unless you have wider feet, in which case I would start true to size. The brooks brothers are pretty much true to size.

    • @jpoupon66
      @jpoupon66 5 лет назад

      @@daddyosreviews Thank you for the reply, the first sentence was a joke, if you have so many pairs that is because you love wingtips and so do I...
      I forgot Alden 2076 on the A berdeen last,how would these compare to the 2 others.
      Thanks again for sharing your expertise on the matter! JL.

    Allen Edmonds allows you to order either leather soles or rubber. Do you have an option of which is better?

    • @BLdontM
      @BLdontM 7 лет назад +1

      Depends where you live. If you live a place that is more moist, maybe it rains a lot and you walk on wet ground... you want rubber. The leather will absorb that moisture and that aint good. If not, then leather sole will outlast the rubber. The rubber sole also provides more grip. Just depends on you and where you live and the conditions you wear the shoes in

      Michael Sturm Allen Edmonds offers a variety of soles to choose from .. if the shoe you want doesn't have the sole you prefer you may choose the sole of your liking for an additional $40.00

    How comfortable are these types of expensive shoes? Looking at some Crocket & Jones but need a pair that will provide comfort as well as durability and quality.

    • @daddyosreviews
      @daddyosreviews  8 лет назад

      Comfort is primarily a function of fit. If you get a good fit, these types of shoes will be very comfortable to wear and will last a long time. One of the primary things that cordovan does is form to one's feet, making for a very comfortable shoe, assuming you have the sizing correctly. Calfskin can be very comfortable as well, but tends to be a little more rigid.

    • @solefreak2
      @solefreak2 8 лет назад

      +daddyosreviews Do they have a cushiony insole as I find many if not all smart/dress shoes provide very little comfort in that regard. Reason I ask is because i've suffered from recent plantar fasciitis and need a softer, more supportive insole.

    • @daddyosreviews
      @daddyosreviews  8 лет назад +1

      No, I would not call these insoles soft. Most have a leather insole with a layer of cork below it, which forms to your foot. But, it does not offer a soft feeling. You would need to get a larger shoe and get a soft insole if that is a requirement.

    • @daddyosreviews
      @daddyosreviews  5 лет назад

      You may need to try Allen Edmonds McNeil then, it sounds like a wide heel in the Barry last might not work with you.

    • @saintthomas4914
      @saintthomas4914 5 лет назад

      @@daddyosreviews I have a little bit of heel slip in all of my Allen Edmonds shoes that I have. I have the Macneils too, in a 12d. I measure a 12d exactly on the brannock device. The Alden Barrie last 11.5d that I tried on was very comfortable....I wish there was no heel slip. I wonder if the 11d alden would stretch so my pinky would be okay.

    Daddyo, I found your reviews to be the most helpful thing I could find on the internet. I am sold on Alden cordovan shoes because, accordingly to you, cordovan retains its shine the best and is easy to clean. I am looking to buy 4 pairs of shoes; 2 wingtips and 2 oxfords; both in burgundy and black. What is your opinion, long wing vs. wing tip? I can't decide between straight, perf tip or medallion tip oxford. I truly would appreciate and guidance for suggestions you have. You are a shoe connoisseur!!!

    • @daddyosreviews
      @daddyosreviews  9 лет назад +1

      Thank you for the kind words, Joe. You need 1 pair of unadorned black straight tip (cap-toe) oxfords for the more formal affairs. It is not critical that these be shell cordovan. Nice calfskin can be a good proxy if well shined. I would also go with a burgundy cap toe but would get these in shell cordovan. Not knowing your profession or location, it may be appropriate for these to be adorned with a medallion, or you may be better off staying without. Understand that more perforations = less formal. With the wingtips, get whatever suits your fancy. I like the balmoral wingtip design best, but own both. Understand that the balmorals will be more formal and officially more appropriate with suits. I particularly like the Alden for brooks brothers wingtip option for balmoral wingtips, but not everyone likes the exposed eyelets for this type of shoe. Good luck and enjoy!

    • @JoeMacEsq
      @JoeMacEsq 9 лет назад +1

      Wow! You are a wealth of knowledge. I am an attorney in Philadelphia. I found a great guy to make me custom suits and shirts but, I have never been satisfied with my shoes. I was looking at Allen Edmond's however, I figured I go the extra yard and go top shelf with Alden.

    • @daddyosreviews
      @daddyosreviews  9 лет назад

      Thank you for that information. I would stick with a black Straight tip in shell cordovan or calf as indicated above, for use with dark suits during the most formal occasions, and a burgundy straight tip balmoral for use with your slightly lighter suits, during the day. If the wingtips will be primarily worn with suits, stick with the 974 or brooks brothers version. If they will be primarily worn with odd slacks, you can go to the long wings #975 if you like them better. Make sure you rotate your shoes, trying not to wear the same pair on consecutive days. This will let them air out, last a whole lot longer. Have fun!

      Daddy-O, I just got my Alden straight tip shoes. What is the proper or best way to lace dress shoes? Cross or straight? Is there any other way?
