Their older stuff around their first album is phenomenal. Songs like Lover, please stay and If I Get High show the uniqueness and classical technique of Connor's voice. They're criminally underrated!
Two of my favourite songs. From their new album i think tomorrow is closed is amazing, especially the acoustic version here on youtube. Reminds me a lot of lover please stay.

Conor Mason's voice is exquisite. They have a lot of really good songs, but when I hear their name my mind always jumps straight to the acoustic version of 'If I Get High' (enough, will I see you again?) :'(
YES the world needs to know about this band! So glad you checked them out. Everyone do yourselves a huge favor and check out more of their discography. Their music covers a wide variety of rock music and is very accessible. World class song writing, incredible vocals and the production on their records is top notch.
For anyone that isn't familiar with this group, their music is quite varied and it's not always this pop-rocky. Please, give them a try and check them out live. Connor's voice is one of the best I've heard in a long time.
They are legends at building that tension in songs. "Free If We Want It" is a song I have on repeat when I want to calm down and/or shut the world out. "Phobia" though is a song by them that fuels me through moments when I'm angry with the world and something you'll enjoy. "Real Love Song" is also a moment of euphoric rock! They have something for everyone. Review more of their stuff please as they are hugely underrated.
Edit: I can't forget "Particles" either. Perfection.
They are immense! I love everything they do and adore certain songs Like You Know Me Too Well, Free If We Want It, Phobia, and Honey Whisky. They are so consistent.
I listen to Free if we want it everyday and it always makes my eyes water. It's their best song in my opinion.

In my eyes, they can do no wrong. Most underrated band ever! A class act, huge riffs and Conor’s vocals are something else! They are everything! 😊❤️🎸

Their first album has basically no weak songs. Amazing melodies, some great guitars and a lot of cool ideas. Recently their sound is going more in the direction of electronic pop.

It's always interesting to hear people analyze my favorite band, and this was especially fun since I've not seen anyone really nerd out over the instrumentation before. Definitely check out more songs, because one of my favorite things about Nothing But Thieves is the breadth of their music. It feels like whatever mood I'm in, they've done a song that fits. Even on this album youve got poppy stuff like Overcome, but then there's also stuff like Pop The Balloon, which is TOTALLY different and feels darker and crunchier. I cant think of any other band but them where I don't dislike a single song in their catalog tho!

One of my favorite songs from this band is “I was just a kid”, whole broken machine album is worth listening! Bought one on vinyl cause I love it so much

They are one of my favourite bands. My son introduced me to their music 2 years ago and I've been hooked ever since! We went to their concert in Detroit in October and WOW. Small venue, no theatrics like some bands put on, and still one of the top (if not THE) concerts that I've been to. I would love to see them get more recognition over here. Very blessed to have seen them up close at such a small venue.

I have no musical talent, but I enjoy all sorts of music, And i can’t stop watching your videos. Each one, I find interesting in its own way. The ones like this one, and many prior ones, are terrific because they put a light on music I would never know about.
I find it fascinating how you can listen to bits of the music and immediately play it on your guitar. Your knowledge of instruments and especially guitars i find incredible. So for someone like me, who loves being introduced to new music, new, wonderful and interesting things you and your videos are just perfect.

I have been watching your channel for over a year now and i am not a musician but absolutely love the 'nerdy' breakdowns. Even if you gave a tutorial on the techniques of watching paint dry, i would be riveted to my seat as you explain everything with ease, and in "layman's" terms. I got to see them live last October. They are genuinely the best live performers I’ve seen, and I’ve seen both Muse and Queen. I’m hoping I get to see them again this October.

I just saw them live in Auckland and they were out of this world. Conor the lead singer sounds like the album but even better. Band is incredible. Best show I’ve ever been to. Caught the setlist paper when he threw it into the crowd too so that was a bonus! Their track ‘Futureproof’ Is a stunner.

This vocalist has a beautiful voice and uses it more beautifully than do most singers in rock and pop these days. I saw this lot play at The Garage in Islington, supporting some acoustic pop punk act. They played Itch and a Jeff B cover and I said to myself that they were going to be huge. Evidently they were. Bit over the shop with their sound and songs but none the less, brilliant musicians.
Their performance of 'Welcome to the DCC' (live for Like A Version) on triple j is amazing as well. His vocal range and control is brilliant. Very high up on my list of bands I wanna see LIVE atm.
FINALLY got to see them live in Minneapolis this week after being a fan all these years. One of the best shows I’ve seen this year.

Loving the videos and the channel. Can’t wait for you to take it on the road. In the meantime, I am going to my first The Darkness concert later in the year in Dec in Camden. Can’t wait. Can’t understand why I’ve never seen TD live before now but so glad I have the opportunity this year.
I watch Rick Beato as well for his breakdowns and analysis, Justin is definitely doing a good job with these videos, I enjoy both of their content very much in different ways, makes you wonder how many other followers of Justin also watch Rick Beato, and if you're not, and you are reading this, I highly recommend that you do, you will enjoy!
@@DerekBarton I used to watch him but now he's basically stopped doing WMTSG and has devolved into the 'modern music sucks' spiral, it's difficult to maintain interest. That being said, I did enjoy his coverage of NBT in one of his recent Spotify rock reviews
@@DerekBarton I watch Rick Beato now and then, but I never miss Justin's videos. They both clearly know their stuff, but Justin is ultimately more entertaining.
Enjoy the gig - I went to my first Darkness gig only a few years ago at the Roundhouse, also not sure why I’d never been before. They’re incredible! Went to Wembley Arena to see them with Black Stone Cherry (who I didn’t really know) last year and TD blew them off the stage.
Thank you Justin for covering Nothing But Thieves, I am real metal guy but been following them from day one, along with my daughter seen them on most tours and catching them twice on the next tour. Conor is an excellent vocalist, please try the songs, like Impossible, the orchestral version is sublime, also Amsterdam, but my favourite is Take This Lonely Heart, which is basically a melodic rock classic, all the musicians are excellent, thank you again
This is the song that introduced me to NBT. After listening to Dead club city, it opens you up to Conors full vocal range. Such an amazing voice. This song is great, but you should definitely listen to more to appreciate why they are so good 😊

I saw them a couple of weeks ago at Bournemouth. they blew me away! the vocals are outstanding and the guitar is really crunching live!

Glad you've covered this. My favourite song of the year. I think NBT influenced heavily by 70s rock - they even namecheck ELO on one of the songs. One of my other favourites of this year (totally different as it's synthwave) is Gunship's 'Monster in Paradise' feat. Milkie Way of Wargasm. Even though it's 80s synth there's this incredible guitar v sax middle section, that's insane!
Finally Justin!!! Thank you! Yes, yes, yes! I love these guys. Couldn't believe it when i found out that they, like me, are from sunny Essex. Seeing them in Madrid next year woo- hooo. Conor Mason is the best vocalist around at the moment. These guys have so many awesone songs, i hope mega fame doesnt change them.

Awesome! I've been suggesting Nothing But Thieves for a long time and was happy to see Justin's appreciation of them. I wish Justin had spent more time talking about Conor's vocal abilities and less time geeking out on the guitar but I get it. Now, check out the band, Dead Poet Society as well!

NBT are amazing! I got to see them this summer in Denmark, and it was really great. Would love to see you check out some of their more rock-based stuff - Conor has an insane voice, and he only shows it a little bit in Overcome.

Thank you for this excellent analysis. I didn't know you could get guitars with 24 frets. I have learned something new. I really treasure new knowledge but sometimes if I don't use it very often it slips into the realm of the forgotten. I think I'll remember this gem - the accoustic guitar I currently own has 21 frets, I never thought to count them before. I'm a novice guitar player.

The Lemon Twigs released an album on 5 May called Everything Harmony. You said you would cover them again...of course, if you don't get to them, there's always the next album....but that would be a great episode. 😌😗 There's a song where they say "through darkness"...👍😃 ("What Happens To A Heart")
I definitely like the '80s vibe of both the song and video today. Their selling point is talent and ability, love it.

Yes! So happy you enjoyed this band. Interesting track on an interesting album to come at them from though. Definitely a 70's influence to it, and there Sam Fender comparison on this track is spot on. The title track to this album is immense but I'd definitely urge you to listen to the song, Amsterdam. One of my fave all time tracks, and Conor unleashing his vocals at the end of that gives me chills every time. Truly great band. Seeing them in Birmingham in November. 😁
