    Ma'am, which is the correct one between the two sentences ?
    They committed themselves to undertake this job.
    VS
    They are committed to undertaking this job.

      These are also basically the same thing. There may be a slight difference in that the first implies a certain place in time (for example, last week, last year) whereas the second sentence may imply a more long term commitment.

      @WritingBetter ma'am, in the first sentence- "to + undertake" is used, while in the second sentence- "to + undertaking" is used.
      why is that contradiction ?

      They are basically the same, but the second might indicate a longer conversation.

      They are basically the same, but the first implies a finished conversation whereas the second implies that you saw the conversation but might not have seen the end of the conversation.
