Baja Suspension on a Budget? Rough Country Vertex Lift on F150

  • Here's my thoughts on the Rough Country 3" Vertex lift. I think it is one of the best bang for your buck options for great suspension on your truck. I have been very impressed and it makes off-roading much more comfortable and enjoyable. It's also nice knowing that it's helping my truck to laster longer since it's not OEM suspension beating my truck to death off-road.

    I did 2in vertex front and rear with zone off-road UCAs on my 17 F150. Running 295/70/17 with -12 offset without any rubbing even at full flex with 1 tire off the ground. CV are still good and with the UCAs ball joints are perfect. Don’t know first hand but looking at mine if you went to the 3 inch CVs will be at too much of an angle. I ended up with 2.5 inch from the coilovers when said and done. Will note I live in Northern Michigan and after 2 years I’m having rust on the springs and some discoloration on the struts and shocks. They are definitely not a long travel suspension and I don’t think they would compete with something like the Fox dcs but I’d give them an 7 out of 10 and would buy again.

    I blew out the seals and bumpstops on my first set in a year and half. Rough country replaced them with a few pics.
    Still have my old set with the coils pulled off and the bearings out. One day ill pull them apart to see whats all inside.

    Fairly sure you're in the same FB group with me. I just installed the Eibach on my truck and lifted it the full 3in and just bought the new Hooke Road bumper thats similar to what you have. Love the look of that bumper with the 3in lift. Cant wait to get the bumper shipped and installed.

    It looks like there is some cupping on the outside tread on those front tires. Id look into that if I were you. You might be running then too soft on the street. It also looks like you have a little positive camber.

    • @coleeades
      @coleeades  8 месяцев назад +1

      Pretty positive you are right, experimented with a slightly lower psi this summer since I was on and off the road so often. But went back up a bit once I noticed the tread wear.

    Appreciate you making this video on these coilovers. I’ve been looking for this type of feedback specifically. I just recently installed the icon 2.5 coilovers on my 2023 F150 and I find them to be too stiff. Gonna be ordering these tomorrow!

    • @ProvectusGroup
      @ProvectusGroup 9 месяцев назад +1

      Absolutely. I just watched your vid again. Great info. Got the coilovers the other day and going to throw them on here in a few. I’m already kind of convinced the Vertex’s are going to probably be what I’m looking for. Their adjustment range seems to be more suited for everyday stuff like commuting, towing and off roading. With the Icons their 1 setting is too firm. Like old school E39, E46 and E60 BMW M Sport suspension. That type of firmness should be a little higher in the adjustment range. 1 should be soft and pillowy (trophy like ish) and 8 should challenge your disk integrity in your back lol. I come from many years of racing and having to spec out, build and tune suspension…especially coilovers. Now that I’m on the truck side it’s easy to see how the suspension companies are taking advantage of truck guys (insert favorite trophy truck montage cycling the hell out of that suspension here). We ALL love it and want it. But there’s nothing about my Stage 4 Icon 2.5 coilovers that justifies $5k…nothing. I knew that before I purchased and confirmed it after owning them for a few thousand miles. So yeah I’m very hopeful for Rough Country and these Vertex’s. Great work again on this video! Thank you for sharing.

    Did you use the rear block that came with the kit?? I like the way your truck is sitting with the “raptor squat”. The other videos and pictures I’ve seen of this kit makes it look like the front is lower than the rear which I don’t like.

    @Cole Eades, How does it drive just going down the road? I have a 2023 Powerboost F150 and installed the Billstein 6112/5160 combo. Due to the extra weight of the Powerboost, it was recommended that I set the 6112 on the highest clip to achieve 2" of lift, however, it rides like crap. Curious if this RC Vertex on a 1 or 2 setting is fairly compliant and comfortable just cruising around?

    • @coleeades
      @coleeades  2 месяца назад +1

      Personally I found that it rides much better on the road with the RC Vertex system than when I just had a leveling kit on it. The vertex shocks are so beefy so I get zero body roll and it sucks up the bumps/potholes very well.

      I have a 3” lift for starters but I’ve had friends run 35” on a leveling kit.
      Just have to cut out the crash bars with a sawzall/grinder and then do some other mild trimming behind the front wheel with a grinder.

    • @leadpilled5567
      @leadpilled5567 9 месяцев назад

      No lift kit is. I don’t care what brand. You need a true long travel which is BIG $$$$$ and there’s no going back from it. Just the components can be over $10k and it’s not something billy bobs 4X4 shop can do

    • @coleeades
      @coleeades  8 месяцев назад +1

      I'm well aware, just a creative title idea. It truly is incredible suspension for the price. But no lift kit would actually perform like a tuned suspension built for a baja truck.
