Wow! I have wasted a lot of time worrying about reupholstering my French open arm chairs! Thank you for your excellent information and your chill attitude.
Thank you so much for this video. I have two French chairs I've been hesitant on working on. I couldn't decide on how to structure the open back but you just gave my project life again.
Thank you! your video gave me the needed info and confidence to reupholster a french armchair that my neighbor was throwing out. It turned out even better than I expected.
You can do a trim, and glue it on with hot glue gun. Can purchase at Hobby Lobby, 40% coupon on your cell phone. Take your time with the glue we don't want too show.
This video is just what I need. I’m wondering what type of nailer you use. I see pin nailers, Brad nailers, and staple guns. I’m leaning toward a Brad nailer stapler. I’m guessing a staple would have better holding power than a pin nail or brad. Suggestions please. Thanks for an outstanding video.
This is just simply amazing!!! Your talent is giving me life hunni lol. I found my inspiration from your book and your tutorials.. Lord knows if I had the money I would be hunting down a chair to practice this on. Thank you sweet thang :)
I am in process of restoring a Stratford Chair Co. (Ontario Canada company) Mission-style chair from 1910-20(?). I’m restoring the finish on the complete chair first….then I’m going to use a high quality leather material (replacing the original fabric). Originally, the chair back had four loosely attached wooden slats as supports; but I’ve been considering either zig zag springs….just this type of webbing. Watching you / your video, I’m now convinced webbing will be best. I certainly don’t need a huge roll….I assume you can buy it by the foot? Also, is there a certain kind of foam I should be looking for? Great video….much thanks!
Yes. You can buy it by the yard at most fabric/craft stores. JoAnn and Hobby Lobby will both have it or you can order it online from an upholstery store.
Do you have a video on how to change a cane back chair to an upholstered one? I can’t seem to find a video for that. Or will this video be appropriate?
hi, I have been watching your videos and would like to know what kind of staple gun and compressor you use and or recommend for someone who will not be doing this a lot
No, the staples are covered with trim. As far as using a pneumatic staple gun, you can get away with a manual one on some projects, but in most cases, they are too bulky and aren't powerful enough for upholstery projects.
Hello I wanted to know what type of air gun is that? I want one that you have to use air compressor. Does air compressor come with staple gun?? I'm just a process shopping for those type of chairs that you're showing in your tutorial. I have regular staple gun but it's very hard to work with that one. And I think that they are gun type and make it so much easier. What should I be shopping for as far as air gun staple gun? I appreciate your help in this thank you so much.
Love your tutorials! Is that just calico you're using or a linen fabric? I have 2 antique chairs I'm about to reupholster and the back is the same as those except it has 11 buttons on each back. I might have to pull it apart tomorrow to see how I'm going to redo the buttons and maybe add the back last? Hmm....
I have a role chair which has fabric on the back with a wood trimon the front and back. There's no screws to remove do anyone know how you take the molding and insert
The only way we could figure out was to pull the side of the chair apart was to wedge a flat head screwdriver on and tap it down. There's dowels in the side to the chair then was able to remove the panel. I will try to remember to post a picture tomorrow . Thank you
Congratulations Miss, but 2 considerations (I am an upholsterer) First: it is not necessary to put all those straps in the back of the chair! Second: the line of cloth (fabric) should be perfectly straight, do not make curves! Best regards and best wishes:
It was a joke about how years later when the customer wants to have the same chair reupholstered. During tear down we discover we used way too many staples before. 😆 Just a silly joke, no insult intended. 53 years upholstering I've fussed at myself many times for doing this...😆
seriously ..your teaching others .... the first two staples were wrong ... YOU cut the shape... you.. did NOT mark the center of the top or bottom ... so you had too much on one side and not enough on the other ..... such a poor effort
Wow! I have wasted a lot of time worrying about reupholstering my French open arm chairs! Thank you for your excellent information and your chill attitude.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and skills. It helps so much

Very good demo. Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Thank you! I've been looking everywhere for instructions for this type of chair! You made it look so easy.
Thanks for this awesome tutorial.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Greetings from Vienna
My pleasure!
Thank you! I bought an old chair with this type of upholstery, which I had not seen before.
Thanks for the tutorial. The chair is really sweet. Congrats.
At 1:30 in the morning you came to my rescue!!!👍
Wonderful!
This is gold. Thank you for this video. It will help me a lot
What did you cover the front staples with?
I was just wondering the same thing, and also why she didn't use batting over the foam
You can do a trim, and glue it on with hot glue gun. Can purchase at Hobby Lobby, 40% coupon on your cell phone. Take your time with the glue we don't want too show.
Great job! Love your hair!
Oh, wow! That was so helpful. Thanks for making this video.

I use a pneumatic upholstery staple gun by Porter Cable, but any brand would probably be comparable.
after hours of looking found your video, love it, thanks

Hi Miss Mustard Seed. Coud you please give more information about the sheers you are using? thank you
thank you for this easy to understand video - what kind of stable gun do you use?
I just love this chair! Thank you so much! Cathryn
How did you get the ends seamless? It didn’t show that at the end. I just saw you trimming.
Hi, how did you remove the back?
Can you do this with a curved back chair as well?
What about the front how do you avoid the staples showing?
Grateful for this tutorial video!!!
What compressor do you use for your stapler ? I'm looking for something quiet and I can't hear yours at all.

Gracias por las instrucciones muy buenas y motivadoras
Thank you very much. I'd like to know what type of air compressor you recommend for upholstering as well as staples.
I am using 3/8" staples and a Porter Cable compressor.
@@missmustardseed Thank you very much.
hi, I have been watching your videos and would like to know what kind of staple gun and compressor you use and or recommend for someone who will not be doing this a lot
How do I get the answer to this question of the preferred staple gun and glue gun?
Great job how much fabric did you use to do 1 chair?
Beautiful 👍
How do I remove the fabric from the wood back?
Thanks, you Learning beautiful 😍
Dont you see the staples? And is the air powered gun necessary? Ty
No, the staples are covered with trim. As far as using a pneumatic staple gun, you can get away with a manual one on some projects, but in most cases, they are too bulky and aren't powerful enough for upholstery projects.
Does your stapler work with compressed air?
what type of staple gun are you use it ?
'using '....
better luck with your next voting form

I have 4 cane back chairs. The cane is ruined so no way to make a template what would you recommend I do ?
nice tutorial I wish u hold the end result a bit longer so we can see it...
Is there an option to either cover the front staples or make it look more professional rather than exposed staples?
Oh, of course! I show how to apply trim in other tutorials.
What staple gun do you use?

Beatiful ability from Brazil
Great ideas!
Thank you!
Why didn’t you use a new, clean piece of foam?
can you give the name and where to get the scissors you used please
I believe they are Fiskars and I got them on Amazon.
I have a role chair which has fabric on the back with a wood trimon the front and back. There's no screws to remove do anyone know how you take the molding and insert
Hmmm...I can't quite picture what you're describing. If there is a trim, you can pull that up and will often find staples underneath.
The only way we could figure out was to pull the side of the chair apart was to wedge a flat head screwdriver on and tap it down. There's dowels in the side to the chair then was able to remove the panel. I will try to remember to post a picture tomorrow . Thank you

Yes, I know that was overkill, but I have had chair backs punched out before so I prefer to have more support than not enough!
It just bothered me that you didn't align the line, a little crooked.
Where did you get the fabric from please
Shaquita Shaneyney .......@ Calico Corners. The back called Twile fabric .
a shop
You didn’t finish it you need the piping glue it staple it?
For piping or trim, I glue it on. Sometimes I will tack it, but in most cases, I use glue.
what type of staple gun is that?
It's a Porter Cable Pneumatic Upholstery staple gun.
Lovely! Can you tell me the name of the fabric (and where its from?) you used on the back of the seat? Miss Mustard Seed
thank you
Thank God for the staple gun!
Good video 👍 Now 7 years later have you had to tear that chair down and clean out the inset? 🤔😆 The upholsterers curse..
Sorry...I'm not sure what you mean. I have had chairs upholstered like this for many years without a problem.
It was a joke about how years later when the customer wants to have the same chair reupholstered. During tear down we discover we used way too many staples before. 😆 Just a silly joke, no insult intended. 53 years upholstering I've fussed at myself many times for doing this...😆
You missed showing putting on the front trim…
That thing reminds me of no country for old men
Why haven’t you responded to anyone that has commented here?
Yes why no responses to the comments??
she died of embarrassment when she watched it back 2 weeks later
😍😍😍😍😍😍
The lines are crooked
the whole thing is crooked
What ? And the end? How did you finish it so that the staples don’t show? 🙄
I think you should watch some upholstery videos.......
How about we see the end? Clearly you have added a ribbon to cover the front staples? :-|
Super crooked and staples showing, not a pro example!
Why would you put that beautiful patterned fabric on the back and then leave that ugly one on the front? Makes no sense
seriously ..your teaching others .... the first two staples were wrong ... YOU cut the shape... you.. did NOT mark the center of the top or bottom ... so you had too much on one side and not enough on the other ..... such a poor effort
I am sure that you will find good way to make it on WoodPrix Webpage.
