    Not sure if this will be seen by anyone that matters, much less Ripe Tomato Farm, but my friend over at 90 Second Mycology (mushrooms), is having his channel demonetized because YT says his content violates their guidelines, is "harmful and promotes drug use."
    The man teaches a technique that is great for people just getting into the hobby, whether it be for medicinal or gourmet mushrooms.
    As we all know, when starting a new hobby, getting wins under our belt further drive our intrigue and passion for that activity. Growing mushrooms can be a tricky project as it is often costly to get started, but with this gentleman's technique one is able to get started for a fraction of the price with great success.
    We are here to learn to be more self sufficient and mushrooms can be used for a variety of things, least of all, food.
    Please do what you can to help appeal this decision!

If one finds it more on the educational, harm reducing side of things maybe comment on his latest video about being demonetized and his appeal video (all one video).
      They haven't told him what he needs to edit or remove to keep him within guidelines or to get him re-established. For the time being they haven't shut his channel down.

    I have been sprouting alfalfa seeds on and off for 45 years and have seen a lot of instructions and videos on how to do it but your video is really outstanding. Very good detailed, simple instructions. Along with an interesting video. Very good job making this video. I liked all the extra details you provided in the video. The explanations were spot on. You have encouraged me to start sprouting again. Every once in a while I will spring for some sprouts from the grocery store but I know I am paying way over the amount of what it costs me to sprout my own. But that instant gratification is strong. Like the other commenters I am finding it's confusing to rinse at all. I am sprouting a HUGE batch (half a bag of Good and Gather's Organic Lentils) just fine after straining the initial soak water. I simply shake up the large container aggressively a few times a day and make sure there at least a BIT of water at the bottom. With the lid, the humidity is kept very high. As it been a short while (like 4 or so days now) I am having it slightly opened for air exchange.

    • @TheRipeTomatoFarms
      @TheRipeTomatoFarms  Год назад +2

      Not every seed is the same. Mung beans don't need as much rinsing either. Lentils have a larger surface area and sprout far faster, hence less need for rinsing.

    • @TheRipeTomatoFarms
      @TheRipeTomatoFarms  4 месяца назад

      Great question. Because we wash the young sprouts daily, the air exchange is plenty for them. Its all they need. For the final stage, Alfalfa is grown in a clamshell that is not airtight.....the same kind its in when you buy it at the store.

    Why is the rinsing process so crucial? I inoculated and grew an entire horse pasture, 2.5 acers, with alfalfa simply by scratching the surface of the pasture with the tines of a box-scrape; lifted the scrape-blade to get the tines about 2-inches below the surface while creating a near-level surface (ground cover included).
    Moreover, why do we need to rinse? What happens if we do not rinse?

    • @TheRipeTomatoFarms
      @TheRipeTomatoFarms  Год назад +1

      Growing Alfalfa as a cover crop in soil out in the garden is a FAR different process than as a sprout entirely in water. The initial rinsing is to prevent fermentation damage during soaking (doesn't happen in the garden) and the subsequent rinsings happen because the seeds are left high and dry in the jar and need moisture (not submerged) to survive...again, doesn't happen in soil out in the garden.

    Can you make alfalfa meal from this?

      Yes, but its no small feat! Especially considering the cost of bulk alfalfa meal Billy! :-)

      @@TheRipeTomatoFarms I can’t get alfalfa meal where I am. I’m in Australia and our hardware places don’t have it, or kelp meal. We don’t even have anything that has phosphorus, we have an 8.1.2, but that’s it unless it’s synthetic

    why do you rinse so much? doesnt chlorine from tap water destroy the micronutrients present in alfalfa? isn't that why you're supposed to use RO water with organic gardening?

    • @TheRipeTomatoFarms
      @TheRipeTomatoFarms  Год назад

      Rinsing happens for two reasons. Initially, its to prevent fermentation which will kill the seeds pretty quickly. After that, we rinse to prevent the seeds from drying out as we are growing them in literally nothing but air. I have never heard of chlorine destroying any micronutrients.

    Video is MISSING something... Seed husks don't disappear on their own... Part of the rinsing process. The sprouts you put in the fridge LOOKED like store bought!

      Lol... Yummmm.....no. Alfalfa seeds don't need to worry about the husks....they are NOT like mung beans. Spend the 9 days to grow some and you'll see.

    You're video is great, the info is great. I have one bit of feedback: when you narrate, every sentence has the same rise and fall of tone from beginning to end of statement, and it becomes super repetitive and distracting... 😓
