      I watched these as a kid too, only slightly depressing memory of it was once the credit music started playing it was time for bed and dreaded school again in the morning.

    Fun fact: there was no Cliff in the original casting, but when Ratzenburger was auditioning he asked if there was a “bar know-it-all”. There wasn’t, but It got written in and Cliff was born.

      @@thejman8734 it’s actually confirmed by the Burroughs(the producers/creators) and the cast, he was there to audition for Norm but wasn’t right so pitched the character idea to the know-it-all and got him written into the show at the expense of some of the others but worked well for all of them as he gave Carla a new life

    Ha, Cliff says that Santa Fe was founded in 1609 so I looked it up to see if the writers actually made him correct and Google says it was founded in 1610. Close enough, Cliffy! I'm impressed.

    I purchased the entire DVD set yrs. ago and have enjoy since then. I've done this w/many old TV shows from 60's 70's 80's and 90's and canceled my cable. No regrets at all about not having cable at all.

    You know I watched this show religiously every week and I have been watching these clips a lot lately and I must say I scantily remember any of these.     I know way too many people who love to lecture - in a one way conversation. Whether the victim wants to hear it or already knows the subject is irrelevant. One guy actually had the temerity to spout inaccuracies about European History to a renowned expert, as if she didn't know anything. To her credit, she corrected the facts only. Cliff isn't even in their league.

      The water was too polluted to drink, by brewing a weak alcohol drink (where beer grew from) they were able to drink without the worry of catching some life ending food poisoning or suchlike. They think it was probably no more than 2% so about the same as American beers now LMAO

    "Cheers" was/is a great comedy; but, in real life, if a guy like Cliff was a regular at my favorite bar, I'd be terrified that I'd wake up some morning and hear on the news that he'd shot up a shopping mall or a cineplex.

Sometimes you encounter what might be called the "Carrie Syndrome": the outcast who genuinely WANTS to be "part of the gang" (like Cliff), but simply doesn't have the social skills to make that possible. (It's worth noting that, like Carrie, Cliff had a monster-mother. I roared with laughter in one episode when Frasier commented: "You know, after meeting Cliff's mother, I suddenly think of him as remarkably well-adjusted.")

    They used to make napkins with asbestos in Ancient Rome. They would "clean" them by simply tossing them into a kiln. They also served as a "leftover/doggy bag" that guests could take with them when they left.

      I fucking love Bill Burr but absolutely not you do not remake a classic show like cheers also no one can play Cliff clave and other than John Ratzenberger because he created the fucking character if it wasn't for him showing up to the addition and asking if they have a part for the bar know it all there would have never been a Cliff Clavin character and we would have missed out on a lot of great moments

      No, he's right. Sam should've said, "Thank you for patronizing my place" -- or what Frasier suggested. By saying, "Thank you for patronizing me" he inadvertently was thanking people for being condescending toward him.

      A place can be patronized but not a person, unless they're being sponsored. "Thanks for patronizing me" makes no sense in this context, unless the person is thanking their benefactor. It does not mean "Thanks for giving me your regular patronage," which is what Sam meant.
