    To those who didn’t make it into UT for Undergrad I want you to know it’s ok. When I was a senior in high school my dream was to go to UT and enter into their Architecture program, when I was capped I was faced with the dilemma of trying to do the cap program knowing I would probably never make it into the architecture program or go to another school. I decided that being an architect was more important to me then being a UT alum so I went and got my BS in Architecture at Texas Tech University. My first semester of undergrad I was determined to try to transfer but as I made friends and had an amazing time at Tech I realized that I was at the right school for me. Now a recent graduate of Tech, I’ve just been accepted into the Master of Architecture program at UT. Everything happens for a reason. Don’t let this one minor bump in the road deter you from doing what you want to do.

      How is tech for computer engineering I’m having the exact same problem now and idk if I should go to tech or go to utd for a year and try to transfer into their engineering school

    • @narsisholmes9348
      @narsisholmes9348 3 года назад

      @@matthewgreer7350 Tech has a pretty good engineering program, when I was a freshman I had double majored in Architecture and Civil Engineering (one of the hardest things I’ve done lol) and the engineering department seemed great. Also something to note is that doing the CAP program will not automatically ensure you transfer into your major, that means when you finish your first year you’ll get accepted into the liberal arts program at UT and you’ll have to try to transfer to engineering. From what I heard it’s extremely difficult to transfer into the engineering program at UT. What you’re really going to have to ask yourself is going to UT more important then majoring in computer engineering.

    Don't know why this got into my recommendation but never lose your hopes. I got capped, then my appeal got rejected but in the april suddenly they changed their minds and accepted me. would you loose a cap offer if you applied and got rejected? And do you have any tips for the appeal?

    • @madlifegod2535
      @madlifegod2535 3 года назад +2

      @@jairam4666 you normally apply to UT austin first then get accepted or capped (basically rejected) or rejected. So I'm not sure what you mean by losing a cap offer there. If you are talking about losing a cap offer after your appeal rejection, then it's no. Your cap offer should still be there no worries. For appeal, I included stuff like not being in auto admit by few steps and wrote about like I still tried in my senior yr and got into top 5%. But I'm not sure if it was my appeal that got me in or they just fucked it up in the first place. I'm pretty sure its ladder, so not sure how helpful my advise on appeal would be.

    This was a very very informative video!! I'm a senior who (although I totally expected to get into UT - early college cred AND just barely outside of top 6%, AND strong extracurriculars) got rejected and offered CAP. But, I was going for a STEM major and cap just isn't it. I thought about appeals and that's a lot of why I came here but it looks like it's better to just go for a second or third choice college like you were saying. Thank you very much for this video, it has helped me look at college admission more knowledgeably!

      As a UT PE alumni, I would strongly advise considering another major. The PE program is one of if not the best in the country, but the oil/gas industry is consolidating and shrinking. There will always be a demand for oil/gas but I think we will see demand stagnate with green initiatives and electric vehicles. You can get into the oil/gas industry without a PE degree, but getting out of the industry with a PE degree can be much more difficult. Just something to consider.

      @@loganstuddert9424 Thank you for your input! How difficult is it to switch into a different engineering field within Cockrell? I am still thinking about my options but if I could switch majors my sophomore year, it may be within the realm of possibility.

    • @loganstuddert9424
      @loganstuddert9424 3 года назад +1

      @@matthewgurning7335 I don’t think it’s too difficult once you are in to Cockrell. As long as you keep your grades up. Just try not to wait until your junior year. At that point you will be taking a lot of courses specific to PE. If the oil/gas industry really interests you, you could do mechanical and then try and get an internship with an oil/gas company. That would make it a lot easier to get full time employment in the industry if it’s something that still interests you when you graduate.

      @pacoromero2542 3 года назад +1

      My understanding is that you can apply to other Colleges, ideally once you're admitted to UT Austin after CAP. You'll be competing with other students applying to those Colleges from other schools. If your GPA and other factors are great, you'll be competitive. Otherwise your chances are lower to minimal. Doing really well at CAP, getting into COLA, doing well there and then applying for another major seems to give you a good chance, but not a guarantee.

    • @brennanhart8145
      @brennanhart8145 3 года назад

      @@pacoromero2542 Yeah it’s really difficult to change majors at UT as is. As far as moving from cap to another school, if it’s competitive like business to it chances are almost nonexistent. If it’s less competitive it’s plausible.

    • @elizabethnguyen3818
      @elizabethnguyen3818 3 года назад +1

      Hi! I got to UT. It really depends on the major you are applying for in CNS. CS is the most competitive major for transfers. The higher your GPA the more competitive your application comes. Of course, if you are also involved in extracurriculars this adds a bonus.

    • @diianuh
      @diianuh 3 года назад +2

      Hi I was a CAP student! Like previous ppl have mentioned, it rlly depends on the major. If you participate in CAP, your GPA doesn’t transfer over once you start at UT. That being said, many majors in the CNS require a minimum of a B in introductory science courses to be considered, and some prefer certain courses being taken at UT vs transferring the credit over (I think Calculus 2 was one of those courses that was preferred to be taken in-residence). Keep in mind, you need to complete a minimum of 12hrs (1 semester) at UT to even apply for another major, so what they’ll look at is your GPA once start at UT. Search up “UT [intended major] internal transfer” and you’ll find the requirements. Hope that helps, good luck!

      I’ve heard it’s more worth it if you’re pursuing a degree in their liberal arts program. Otherwise probably not worth it as only 1/3 of people who go through with program see it till admission into UT. However if it’s your number one school and you can’t see yourself going anywhere else you should go for it! But honestly the easier route would be community college and then apply as a transfer. it basically means that in order to gain automatic admission to their college of liberal arts, you will have to spend a year doing certain courses in participating universities (which are listed on their site as ut arlington, permian basin, rio grande valley, san antonio, and tyler) to meet CAP requirements. however, the main catch to this is that if you are aiming for some of their most competitive majors, such as business and cs, you have to reapply like everyone else during your sophomore year in college. if you are set on attending ut and aim to be in the liberal arts, cap is a good option; however, it’s pretty risky if you’re only looking to major in their coveted majors.

    Is the CAP agreement binding?

    • @diianuh
      @diianuh 3 года назад +1

      No. If you complete your first yr at a UT System school w a 3.2+ GPA, then you’re given the option to go through with your CAP agreement or not.

    How much does being a legacy affect admission if parent hasn’t donated money in past or have connections?

    • @Thesquarekevin26
      @Thesquarekevin26 3 года назад

      It is still going to be an advantage over other but not by a huge margin. Just depends on your other stats, extracurriculars and definitely on being a top 6% student.

      No it isn't. Legacy isn't considered at all in UT admissions nor is there even a place on the application to report any family connections.

    Is it normal to receive a business honors interview but then be denied from UT Austin as a whole?

    So every in-state applicant who gets rejected gets offered CAP? Or, are some people just flat out rejected? Seems like everyone got a CAP offer.

    The "holistic" admissions process is garbage.

      I prefer the term bullshit, holistic review is bullshit, but garbage works well also.
