It's crazy. Growing up in the 80's (I was ten in 83) 37 years later and these jingles and have not heard them since, they come back at you like you never missed a beat or a lyric. And ya gotta love the He-man commerical.. sting not included.
I had that Wicket the Ewok doll. The main thing I remember is that the Wicket doll had a Velcro hood that you could remove. And when you took off his hood, my brothers and I could not help but think he looked like the gopher from Caddyshack, which had started airing on TV around the time. And so, my brothers and I would often play a game where one of them would pretend to be Carl Spackler (Bill Murray's character in the film), and I would use my Wicket doll to play the part of the gopher. I actually remember playing this game more than I do playing his rightful role in the Star Wars Universe.
Nowadays it's surreal to see a PSA advising 10-year-olds on walking home unsupervised after dark (without cell phones) but I remember it being that way as a kid. Parents could go hours not knowing where their small kids were--so glad I got to grow up when that was still possible
The dark irony is that it was far more dangerous on city streets back then compared to today. Crime rates in the early-mid 80's were astonishingly high.
@@80sCommercialVault It feels like everyone is always fighting the last war; every gets used to low crime rates so they are more permissive even as they creep higher, then the next generation are paranoid from high crime rates so they always see danger even as they slide lower
Unlike many of the 80's commercials online, this one really brought me back as we had ABC Saturday morning cartoons in Canada, and I remember a lot of these. It was funny watching the Disney Phone...I thought it was stupid back then too. These commercials were really cool to watch (again).
1:50 - At least at the beginning, they were acknowledging that it was a pretend adoption, instead of like in the later commercials, where everyone is freaking out over the kid "adopting" a Cabbage Patch Kid.
Excellent set here showing the prime of early '80s youth life and a sort of innocence before MTV really went mainstream. GI Joe, My Little Pony, Masters of the Universe were all new and not yet repetitive. Star Wars was still popular even though "Return of the Jedi" had come out and was considered the end. I was still young enough to watch cartoons on Saturday morning and not be expected to do anything else.
Santa brought me the Mickey Mouse talking phone for Christmas that year. I remember crying because I couldn't actually talk to the real Mickey and Donald with it. I think I still have the orange van and the Firebird Hot Wheel from the McDonald's commercial. I remember playing in the bathtub with that cheap prize in the Cap'n Crunch box. So many memories in this volume. Thanks for uploading them!
Being that I was a wee little girl in October/November 1983, I never saw these ads til I got older! View-Master was ahead of its time definitely! We still have ours! My favorite were a set we got from the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County & the La Brea Tar Pits!
I still have that My Little Pony stable in my mom's basement. God, I LOVED My Little Pony back in the day. ^_^ I was never into Cabbage Patch dolls, though. I owned two and mostly they sat around.
NBC also used those clouds in bumpers with actors like David Hasselhoff promoting Knight Rider and other shows. They were using the "Be there!" slogan at the time.
@@caesar349 you're not even kidding about expensive. Especially over the past few years with the surge in MOTU prices. Although I did make a nice profit selling three Scareglows. Hell, we probably belong to some of the same FB toy groups.
Boy, people around here REALLY need to see that from me to you. Just about every night, I almost kill somebody because they're walking down the middle of the road in all black.
I had some of those View Master reels, probably had some of the Masters of the Universe and I definitely had the Shirt Tales set featured in this ad! I see they also had A-Team how cool would that have been? Mario DOES say here we go almost exactly like the modern one did!
Aww, those Chipmunk dolls were cute! The creepy puppets have returned! (7:46) Those uniforms look so extra on those kids (8:23) Where can I get a “My Little Pony Show Stable”? Asking for a friend. Birdy and Grimace remind me of a couple of Sid and Marty Krofft’s creations (11:02).
This really was a different time...it's sort of depressing what kids demand in their playtime these days. The Time for Timer spot is probably the best version of it on RUclips. After the He-Man commercial, every laser was a "Wicked Laser."
There is only one thing I don't like about some (note some) 80s cartoons now that I'm an adult looking back at them, aside from writing quality (that's always going to be a problem when you're not in the target demo); but the poor use of leitmotifs, it just feels like they're adding in music that is unnecessary for the sake of not having quiet.
I swear i had that Mickey Mouse phone and the rub a dub doggie. I KNOW i had a view master and a cabbage patch kid. BTW , those “Get High On Yourself” psa was producers by Hollywood producing legend Robert Evans. This was his community service after getting busted for buying cocaine
PowerGlove79 I remember that Mickey Mouse phone as well. My mom bought that for me back in 1982 for Christmas. In any event, I really wish they brought back donkey Kong cereal. And, I had a cabbage patch as well. But later in 1984 for Christmas, my mother bought my sister and I the Cabbage Patch piggy banks.
Cabbage Patch Kids-The toy stores were a nightmare during the holiday season when these were being sold GI Joe Sky Striker-nowadays it would be based on either a F18 or F22 Pioneer Chicken-always wondered why it looked so red Dizzy Drivers-see quite a few of these on the roads after your neighborhood bar closes Get High On Yourself-Muhammad Ali and Cathy Lee Crosby were having a good time singing this Happi Returns-(deep voiced trailer announcer):"..and she ALWAYS will. Rated R."
Avery Schrieber and Richard Moll in a commercial...very cool. Rubik's Cube....shame they finally do a cartoon with Hispanics as the lead and we get that monstrosity to cancel it out. Reese's Pieces still trying to grab the E.T. market I suppose. When did they phase out the Cap'n's assistants and the pirate?
Love seeing these commercials. Every so often when the kids are away I pull these up just to watch while eating breakfast just like back in the day
Thank you again for posting these. Still love getting to see stuff from before my time.
These bring back amazing memories of my childhood. Saturday mornings- cartoon day!
"Batteries Not Included!!" The soundtrack of my childhood.
Kevin Mooneyham back when batteries was a gift as well
OMG I'm 47 and I remember each and every one of these.

I'm reliving my awesome 80's childhood with these commercials! Love your channel! :)

Those McDonalds hot wheels were so boss.

Remember when toys didn't have to be connected to bluetooth or wifi?

Back when things were simpler
I still have that My Little Pony stable in my mom's basement. God, I LOVED My Little Pony back in the day. ^_^ I was never into Cabbage Patch dolls, though. I owned two and mostly they sat around.
I was 6 remember all this, especially the pla-dough factory and McDonald's hotwheels.
I'm laughing at your joke for the Mickey Mouse phone commercial, "Come over for a potty!" Uuuhh, no thanks!
14:48 I vividly remember getting one for Christmas and playing with it all day at my aunt's house. Simpler times.
I have the watch that's advertised for 99 cents. I wear it everyday.
I never caught the Cousin Willy call back in the Reese’s Pieces ad before. I laughed out loud!
Ah, Cabbage Patch Kids, what a memory!
NBC also used those clouds in bumpers with actors like David Hasselhoff promoting Knight Rider and other shows. They were using the "Be there!" slogan at the time.
I've got that Shirt Tales viewmaster mentioned in the MOTU commercial. Still sealed.
Grizzlor vintage collectors are interested.
@@caesar349 I'm a collector/seller myself.
Grizzlor awesome! Me too... it’s an expensive hobby/addiction lol. The wife just doesn’t understand. eBay and toy conventions are dangerous

I remember seeing those watches, in the gum ball machines back in the day.
Cheap, cheesy LCD watches are awesome. More accurate than a Rolex and toss it away if you get tired of it. The batteries are replaceable no problem.

When my friends started talking about Power Rangers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I still had my Alvin and the Chipmunks plushies
me too they are awesome and very adorable
6X6 High Risers ad just amuses me. As it reminds me of a regular car commercial.
i loooove the littles my older sister actually has the lemon drop pony too

I had the Monchhichis..Wow!
Happi Returns looked like something straight out of a horror movie, creepy kid and creepy doll wow the 80s!
My Little Pony toys actually came out in 1982.
Aww, those Chipmunk dolls were cute!
The creepy puppets have returned! (7:46)

I think I had the watch that’s in the thumbnail.
$15.99 value LOL. That was around $50 in today's money in the early 80s.
Happi Returns laugh sounds like baby Gage from Pet Sematary
Emily Schulman in that Pioneer Chicken commercial?

I thought that was Richard Moll. Love his character on Night Court. And his voice acting on Mighty Max.
Ah yes the “each sold separately“ & “batteries not included” era 🤌🏽
