- “Coon Hunting” is enjoyed throughout the state of Alabama as a pastime more about the performance of specially trained hunting dogs than the taking of racoons. With flashlights attached to their heads, participants head out after dark with their favorite dogs. The Hatton family of Franklin County takes us on a hunt where we learn how coon dogs “speak” while hunting. We discuss the circuit of coon dog competition and coon dog breeding and, on the next day, visit the memorial celebration at the well-known Coon Dog Cemetery in Colbert County. Hosted by Joey Brackner.
Journey Proud is a proud partnership of Alabama Public Television and the Alabama State Council on the Arts.
