Mike, it really is amazing!! The tremolo, the locking tuners, the feel of the v-ish neck, the vintage yet noiseless pickups. It feels like what a solid $2000 instrument actually should feel like... love it

I had an opportunity to play one. I was in a rush so I didn't get to plug it in. I've never felt so satisfied playing an electric guitar unplugged. It was just so nice! You can't kill the strat because you've got people that have that sentimental relationship with it and so they will be resistant to guitars like this. They will say things like "It doesn't have soul, it doesn't have mojo", but that cutlass stirred my soul in a way that no strat ever has. Great guitar.

I don't have this Music Man guitar yet, but I do have a Music Man JP15 and a Music Man Sabre, and all I can say is that they are absolutely incredible guitars that are extremely well-made. Their quality control is top-notch, and I would even venture to say they may be the best made guitars out there.

I'm a bit confused as to why the bending is impressive re: staying in tune. The trem is decked. Every guitar will stay in tune just as much if they have locking tuners. The real test of any tremolo is whether or not it returns to pitch when it's floating. If you deck it you effectively turn it into a hardtail, and any guitar I've ever set up will maintain pitch just fine once you tune the tremolo (for those that don't know, on a strat-style guitar, you decide if you want to return to pitch after dropping or pulling the pitch, then tune it by repeatedly diving and tuning or, alternatively, pulling up and tuning). To float to Fender specs and stay in pitch while pulling and diving WITHOUT having to compensate by pulling after you dive or diving after you pull -- that is the test and the standard by which to measure any guitar.

If you want to put blocks of wood with stuff screwed on to them in their proper place in musical history,
you should look at my inventive guitar, "semi-solid-body John Watt". It features a never-before-heard acoustic
phenomena, and creates a new, higher level of expressive feedback with a greater harmonic range.
Ever since I bought my first pack of Ernie Ball 10s and Fender Heavy Small picks, in 1970, before Jimi passed,
I have never bought anything else.
I'm thinking the split tuners could solve the Fender G-string problems, maybe, and the bridge cover looks good,
but I need to feel those bridge screws to stabilize my hand when I switch to some leads or finger-picking.
If there was a humbucker by the neck it would be better. If both single coils were wired together, not in series,
with a three-way Switchcraft toggle switch, it would be totally more playable.
And if the bridge pieces, nut and string retainers aren't Graph Tech, forget it. My guitar also plugs in the side.
Too bad I can't include any photos. We're pulling wood out from underneath receding glaciers.
Forget burnt, singed or smoked wood. Try ancient megalith, cold-pressed timber, so you can play mega-riffs. john@johnwatt.ca And if I wasn't getting off on this video, I wouldn't be typing here.
Okay. Let me be business-like. Here in Canada, President Robert Godin mailed me a letter, commending me
for my innovations, acoustic and electric. I am John Watt, Clan Watt. Clan Watt never manufactured.
You don't know the true history of Dr. James Watt, or another Clan member, Past President James T. Buchanan.
Bay-an-uck-let, blessings on you. My invention is an attempt to redefine North American manufacturing.
What I have is totally different, but the only part that changes is the body. You can start building with an
assembly line as original with only that change, and any solid-body electric guitarist could do the same.
Clan Watt never manufactured. Weir to wire, the weir'd to the wire'd.
George Gruhn, from Nashville, was sending me email two and three times a day for over two weeks.
He invited me down, but I had to stop anything music for a long time, being chased by serious criminals.
    john@johnwatt.ca
uh... this offer dies on the screen if there is no counter-offer within the next two years.
Like my ancestor Dr. James Watt, I am giving my invention to the world, not patenting it for future ownership.
Dr. James Watt invented horsepower. He didn't like seeing the Industrial Revolution in Europe because they
used the oil of marine mammals and crushed Egyptian mummies. If you see an old American locomotive,
that's blowing that thick black smoke, not bitumen, that's crushed Egyptian mummies. Dr. Watt improved
the manufacture in every country by over 65%. Other scientists named the watt after hearing him talk about it.
He traveled the world to help prevent the worse excesses of American Tesla-Marconi abuse.
He was also a good father. Tesla died a broken and penniless man. Marconi was murdered on a trip to Italy.
The American government, inventing military protocols for those men, took over their patents and factories.
Nicola Tesla was from Transylvania. Sylvania is still around, and so is Clan Watt, hearing from me now.
When you lose the flesh, where is the electricity and magnetism of your brain going to go? You should know.
It's a separate, semi-independent system that contains micro-galaxies of particulate matter smaller than atoms.
And just like the sun, the earth and our brains, it's all one energy, called Direct Current, what Dr. James Watt said.
Organic electricity, it's too late for the world, now AC/DC, weaponized and covert.
You can't build a healthy society using American spy technology and addictive electronic devices and content.
Look back to when Hydra become hydro and Medea became media. We are on You Tube. It's all here, a little.

strats are dramatically overrated. noisy, annoying pickups, clunky neck profiles with cheap gloss or nitro finishes, terrible trem bridges. with G&L and more recently ernie ball making guitars that actually bring the strat into the 21st century, if you can afford one of these options, there's no reason to buy a strat except for the brand name.

It looks like the upscale version 2.0 of my lake placid strat. I love my strat - LOVE it! - and I'd trade it for this cutlass before you could blink! I like the smaller body mass/size - alongside a heap of other features. But strat bodies are just too big. They look comically huge on skinny guys and chicks. Im a big man, and i still like the smaller cutlass. Same with the Albert Lee.... even the Valentine - bigger, but still not too big/heavy aka Fender

They will never kill the Strat. No doubt it's a great guitar but I find that when other companies other than Fender make S type high end guitars, they end up sounding more like a Strat than a Strat does. Meaning they tend to over accentuate the traditional tones that are readily available in a Fender Stratocaster. IMO

If you wanted these specs from fender you'd have to go master built custom shop and pay double the price of a cutlass plus fender doesn't offer SS frets but it's 2019 now so here's hoping

Got to ask Cutlass or Silver Sky if you were buying one today? I’m in the market for one, and I don’t know how you feel about used gear, but while shopping I noticed this trend, a used Silver Sky is north of $1500 in the States but a used Cutlass is $1000 or less if you’re patient.

Getting second hand guitars is a great thing to do. My Aqua blue Strat was 2nd hand. I like the silver sky, great guitar. If I was to choose between that and the cutlass, I would choose the cutlass! I hadn’t played it for a few months due to lock down and it wasn’t at mine. Got it back a couple of weeks ago, and I forgot what a fantastic guitar it is. It rings beautifully. Can’t say enough good things about it.

    Treble bleed circuit.

    • @DrKevGuitar
      @DrKevGuitar 6 лет назад

In fact no, the Cutlass has an active buffer circuit that makes a treble bleed unnecessary. 100% consistent tone no matter what cable length you use or volume setting you use. It's very cool.

I played one of those and I wouldn't give you $200 for one they play cheap their tone is very minimal playabilities pretty decent but playability don't cover the tone it don't have the strat tone so stop comparing it to a fender and definitely don't try to compare it to a g&l

    Enough with the "I-think-I-broke-something orgasm-face"!!
I want all the musicman guitars! If i were a successful rock star, id play musicman almost exclusively (need at least one Gibson...). But I could actually live wholly without the big F! ( Except for just one jazzy. Ooooh, and a tele, of course!...)
