AS good as this performance here is there is no preparing you for how incredible he is on the Broadway Stage! Not only his singing but his acting. He truly becomes Charlie Price on that stage. Kudos David Cook!
I've been enthusiastically attending David Cook shows for the last 8 years, and was able to see him in Kinky Boots April 7. I expected him to do well in the show, but was delighted and charmed by how excellent his performance is.
To me it is the best song of the whole show. Along with “history of wrong guys”. And he made it his own. The “so-o-o-oul” close to the end is great. Can’t wait to watch him live next week! He rocked it. Made the song his own.
So excited, he's going back to Kinky Boots for a summer run..July 17th until Sept 8th! If you haven't seen him in this incredible show this would be the time! He's so good!
Wow, thank you show much for sharing this interview and David Cook's rendition of Soul Of A Man! So excited to see him in this role live in 10 days. Love the DC growl or grit whatever you call it that creeps into this song close to the end.
yes, that's true. but when he isn't wearing a hat you can see that he wears his hair in a way that makes him look much older than 36. it is shaven to the scalp at the sides and the top hair is pushed way up off his head.
I took my then 3 yr old old daughter to see him in the American Idol concert tour back in the day. He was fantastic then and HOT DAMN still so good. Great voice for this show.
Loved this interview - especially the glimpse of Charlie's charming accent - and wowed by David's rendition of Soul of a Man!! Looking forward to hearing him belt this out on the Broadway stage.
Him hitting high notes and maintaining big voice reminds me of his voice during the idol.i like this better than his post idol voice.i’ve been with his journey from day 1 up to now and I cant help but notice and compare!
Having watched him as a rock star, I notice his facial mannerism while singing but now on this video, him doing Broadway the facial mannerism wasn't showing. Yet, I watched another video of him just before this (the Big Slick) the mannerism was there. It only shows he's a good theater talent and vocals haven't changed too, as good as ever. He's one those few singers with the best vibrato.
He looks so different! Not only does he not have a beard anymore but his lips look different. I mean, can facial hair really make you look that different??
I saw him two weeks ago when I went to New York he was absolutely amazing but I think brendon did soul of a man better his voice fits the song more for me personally
David looks different ever since I saw him on American Idol centuries ago. The sound is still the original,Brendon Urie’s (honestly my personal favorite) is the only one that differs
Lol, this is not his usual look these days. Check out David Cook Official for a current profile pic. It's amazing what a shave and different hairstyle can do!
Brendon is great too, but I think David has excellent breathing control and beautiful phrasing. He also did an acoustic rendition, with both qualities evident - and that is while sitting down and playing the guitar - ruclips.net/video/pny0qZnzQW0/видео.html
I agree! At the start of his run Brendon was fantastic but you could really hear he was struggling towards the end as he was slipping into falsetto quite often and dropping the octave very quickly on the final note of Soul of a Man. Just makes you realise how talented some of the people playing this role are to be able to do it 8 times a week for a year without faltering
I don't think he does, at all. Listen to him as recorded live on the stage: t.co/7w3kmQfCNJ Both Brendon & David are great at singing but David has impressed a lot of people with his acting, he has shown an emotional depth that hasn't been seen in most of the Charlie's so far.
I'm bad news, a black and blue-ser who's a loser a merry-go-round spiraling down I'm all used up chafed and chewed-up who's just screwed up the same old Charlie hitting the ground 'cause I'll never be the soul of a man, noble and wise like the soul of a man who lifted me high like the soul of a man heroic and true like the soul of man that I looked up to what else could I do? stupid hubris no excuses I blew my fuses I guess I'm a ruse in my father's shoes not amusing, no confusing this streak of losing totally brutal and useless, too how can I be the soul of a man noble and wise like the soul of a man who lifted me high like the soul of a man heroic and true like the soul of a man that I looked up to what else could I... Just when I'm reaching for that rung at the top I'm that broken heel unsteady and ready ready to drop when will I be the soul of a man noble and wise like the soul of a man who lifted me high soul of a man heroic and true like the soul of a man that I looked up to what else could I do? (soul... of a man) I'll never be no I'll never be I have gone and let you down No, soul, soul of a man Here comes that familiar sound same old Charlie hitting the ground End
I’m sorry but I really don’t like Soul Of A Man. It’s not even the best song in the show, there are way better songs that could be sung for press just sayin’!
I saw the touring show and Honestly, I thought a lot of the songs were on the generic side- I did like the Act I finale song and the choreography on the conveyer belts
I think for Charlie this is the best song in the play. While there are other songs in the play that I think that are more powerful like not my fathers son, but for Charlie this is the best song for his character.
Well if you haven't seen him on that stage you're missing out. TBH I didn't even know who BU was until all the negative comments by BU fans started showing up on every David Cook video. Not only his but there were brutal ones on Stark Sands and others as well. Yes BU can sing, but is he the best Charlie? That is subjective. Can't wait till you all show up on Mark Ballas's vids since he is now the new Charlie Price. I'm sure BU appreciates how his fans belittle every new artist that dares take on this challenging role NOT.
sailorvvv Vocally I think it was his best. Some of the notes he hit were cleaner than in his other performances like Billie Jean. He was a theater major in college but then switched to graphic design. It’s true that he was known on the show as a rocker or pop/rock or whatever but he’s still fairly versatile. Simon, of course, didn’t like his performance of Music Of The Night but that was one time I personally didn’t listen to Simon lol
His story from basket ball to musical theatre is literally Troy Bolton 😂
i"M
David definitely "has his head in the game!"

David Koch show me this on the piano it goes like this
AS good as this performance here is there is no preparing you for how incredible he is on the Broadway Stage! Not only his singing but his acting. He truly becomes Charlie Price on that stage. Kudos David Cook!

As a British person that is one of the best British accents done by an American I’ve ever heard 😱😂
Really? It doesn't sound that natural. Best I've heard in terms of Kinky Boots is probably Stark Sands
Kawaii San ‘lol’
Saw his 2nd to last show on Sat afternoon.. He is real deal. So good!! He can act and he blows the roof off when he does this song. Totally impressed
So happy David is back! Such talent, it just oozes out of every pore of his being. ❤️🎶🎶🎶❤️
To me it is the best song of the whole show. Along with “history of wrong guys”.
And he made it his own.
The “so-o-o-oul” close to the end is great.
Can’t wait to watch him live next week! He rocked it.
Made the song his own.
I saw him in August and he was absolutely mind-blowing like I knew he could sing like hell but I didn't know he was such an amazing actor
You've got that right!
So excited, he's going back to Kinky Boots for a summer run..July 17th until Sept 8th! If you haven't seen him in this incredible show this would be the time! He's so good!
HIS VOICE😍😍😍😍 IM IN LOVE WITH HIM
Wow, thank you show much for sharing this interview and David Cook's rendition of Soul Of A Man! So excited to see him in this role live in 10 days. Love the DC growl or grit whatever you call it that creeps into this song close to the end.
Damn, with that clean shaven face, and beanie I swear he looks younger than when he won Idol 10 yrs ago!
yes, that's true. but when he isn't wearing a hat you can see that he wears his hair in a way that makes him look much older than 36. it is shaven to the scalp at the sides and the top hair is pushed way up off his head.
And when he has a beard he lets it get too long and scruffy and it is grey.
Glad to see he landed here.
Beautiful voice! I love David Cook ❤️🥰
I took my then 3 yr old old daughter to see him in the American Idol concert tour back in the day. He was fantastic then and HOT DAMN still so good. Great voice for this show.

Wow David Cook is amazing!!!
He is amazing.
Nice performance. It's been a while since I looked at a David Cook video. He doesn't look like hes aged at all since American Idol.
Yeeesssss he's killin it
LOOOOOVE IT!
I got to see him live in kinky boots and WOW he was incredible.
So true!
PERFECT
Okay I hate when Broadway shows do the whole stunt casting but I have to say he’s a lot better than I thought he would be.
AWESOME
Also, props to the piano player
I love David Cook since his AI days!!!
He would of did amazing in Rock of Ages!!! I think he would of did amazing in that musical!!!
Best singer ever ❤️🥰
I didn't think anyone could come remarkably close to brendon urie's rendition but this man proved me wrong😏
Phantasma98 🙄
Temujin Scott 👏🏽
No way this was better than Brendon uries lMAO
Check out how he sang it live on stage t.co/7w3kmQfCNJ
Ummm he didn't say it was better, he said it was close. You Urie fans need to get a grip. He isn't the only artist on the planet!
Having watched him as a rock star, I notice his facial mannerism while singing but now on this video, him doing Broadway the facial mannerism wasn't showing. Yet, I watched another video of him just before this (the Big Slick) the mannerism was there. It only shows he's a good theater talent and vocals haven't changed too, as good as ever. wow, i wish i can watch him act... I'm jealous to all who does watched him...
We have his music school teacher she teaches my child every day at school miss Gillery
💜💜💜
He looks so different! Not only does he not have a beard anymore but his lips look different. I mean, can facial hair really make you look that different??
Yes it sure can!
Without his hat he really looks different. The way he wears his hair makes him look much older then 36.
I saw him two weeks ago when I went to New York he was absolutely amazing but I think brendon did soul of a man better his voice fits the song more for me personally

03pattie1972 yeah...just miss the old him sometimes
Is this the original key?
yes C, modulates to D flat
for some reasons it reminds me of the old 3 day grace vocalist voice, david cook is awesome
Why is no one talking about much he sounds like Brendon Urie?!
Sounds just like Brendon Urie but with far better range and stamina meaning he can hit all the notes with ease
Brendon is great too, but I think David has excellent breathing control and beautiful phrasing. He also did an acoustic rendition, with both qualities evident - and that is while sitting down and playing the guitar - ruclips.net/video/pny0qZnzQW0/видео.html

David's returning to Kinky Boots, yay!!! Thought you might like this, I posted a recording I did, live from Broadway - t.co/7w3kmQfCNJ
I'm a fan of david cook but brendon urie's version is more powerful. Just my opinion 😬
i didn’t like him on american idol but he suits this song really well
Omg he sounds just like Brandon urie
Had to google who Brandon Urie was, lol.
TriGgErErD its brEndon the Emos are shook
I don't think he does, at all. Listen to him as recorded live on the stage: t.co/7w3kmQfCNJ Both Brendon & David are great at singing but David has impressed a lot of people with his acting, he has shown an emotional depth that hasn't been seen in most of the Charlie's so far.
I think he very much does here. Especially in his low range.
Brendon's high notes are better. But he sounds nasally at times. Just sayin
I'm bad news, a
black and blue-ser
who's a loser
a merry-go-round spiraling down
I'm all used up

stupid hubris
no excuses
I blew my fuses
I guess I'm a ruse in my father's shoes
not amusing, no confusing

totally brutal and useless, too
how can I be the soul of a man

End
he sounds a little like patrick stump in this
I’m sorry but I really don’t like Soul Of A Man. It’s not even the best song in the show, there are way better songs that could be sung for press just sayin’!
Meghan Robertshaw to me it actually is the best song in the show! 😂 agree to disagree? LoL.
It’s a good song it’s just my personal least favourite
Hey everyone is entitled to their opinion. It's only a Broadway show.
i love u david but brendon urie did it better haha
He sings well no doubt but I don’t believe him 😂😂 Brandon Urie does it better
Well if you haven't seen him on that stage you're missing out. TBH I didn't even know who BU was until all the negative comments by BU fans started showing up on every David Cook video. ehhhhhh... brendon urie did it better...
haileysilfies way to be supportive of new actors 👍🏼
he was just straining with the high notes and brendon has an amazing range.. just an opinion
haileysilfies oh please
Hahahahahaaa
That is true
does anyone else remember when he butchered the Phantom of the opera song on American Idol lol
sailorvvv Ummm that was his best performance on the show besides "Billie Jean"
a lot of people would disagree with that
sailorvvv I doubt that
it's was a pretty controversial performance
sailorvvv Vocally I think it was his best.
