    Beautiful Davie! I've been following you for a good bit now, and you've taught me more than you could ever imagine. Your techniques are wonderfully shown and explained through your videos, and I, WE, can't thank you enough for giving up your time to teach us some of what you've mastered. Almost in every video I learn something different that I can apply to another pattern besides the one your teaching at the time. You truly have a gift for tying and teaching.
    Today is January 2nd, 2015. I hope you and your family had a great previous year, and best wishes for this one. God bless and thank you again.
    -Justin Aldrich.

    Impeccably tyed , i’m giving up the salmon fishing and going back to trout fishing rivers and lakes ,going to knock up a few of your trout patterns over the Winter months and have a crack a few competitions on in the West of Ireland next year .
    Many thanks for the uploads my (Fidus Achates) .
    Very much appreciated . God Bless.

    Love this pattern, I make up a bunch of wings using Softex for the coating and it seems to work great, need to let them set for about 20 minutes before using them. I use the alligator style fly display cubes with the wire extensions to let them dry and store them in pill bottles until ready for use. Love all Dave's videos .

I learned to tie on your channel and here is another I can't remember seeing before. Anyway, brilliant way to make Caddis wings. I just got some CDC feathers in today, so I will be tying this fly very soon. All the best, Thanks for sharing your expertise. Sean

    Just so you know, it is easier to make the split thread dubbing loop and do each fly than it is to get CDC into a dubbing brush. It uses lots of feathers and the wire takes something away. Dubbing brushes are great for many fibres and I use them plenty, but CDC did not work out well for me. Thanks Sean

    Hi Davie, I was wondering is the cleg fly or horse fly considered a caddis? thank you and all the best.

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  Год назад +1

      Hi dongil123,
      No it is a different species though a caddis style fly would certainly represent it ok,. When I worked on the river I used to get bitten by them all the time though I'm lucky in a way as I didn't react to the bite for some reason and many would get itchy or swelling around the bite..
      All the very best Davie

      @@DavieMcPhail Thank you, that clarifies some doubt with certain fly's, could you put me in the right direction when it comes to replicating the natural patterns that we have here in Scotland when it comes to the fishing the dry fly on our local lochs here in the Highlands, again so many thanks again for everything you do.👍😍

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  3 года назад

      Hi Stephen,
      I've used this method on many patterns over the years and one of the first was a small black beetle and I caught lots of fish on it so I added it to a few other patterns and this is one of them and this fished just as well so it's worth using this method on flies you may like yourself..
      All the very best Davie

    Hi Davy. Great fly and video as always. You consistently demonstrate a level of craftsmanship and tying skill that most tyers hope to achieve. I have been using feathers fortified with glue since the '70's when we used "Duco" cement. Bug-bond is a huge improvement. We used to trim the feather to a more conventional shape for Caddis wings. Am I missing something or is it not necessary for this particular fly? Thank you from this fan, avid fly tyer, and author.

    Hi Davie,
    On youtube you are my no 1 source of inspiration, i think i seen close to all your videos and i learn stuff each time. Looking at your videos have boosted my confidence in fly tying.
    However what i still feel a little bit confused about is hackle, there loads of it and its expensive..So now i use Whiting 100s packs. But looking at your videos i see i need more, what hackles would you suggest as a good base ?
    Best Regards Thomas

  • @seanmooney3907
    @seanmooney3907 11 лет назад

    Well I did everything but the very first thing you did. I am going to have to start tying with you so I get everything in. So my excellent looking caddis has no horns. Otherwise it came out pretty good for my first dubbing loop. I have a norvise and I don't dub anything on a loop. I am going to try to make a CDC dubbing brush. I have to get a few more feathers to try that though. I love the norvise and Norm Norlander is wonderful. All the best, Sean

    Watch all your vids and enjoy and learn techniqies etc from all but would like your opinion on which cdc supplier sell the best quality feathers. I'm not fussed on veniard packs but have read about swiss and french suppliers??? Whats your preference the ones used in the vids look good quality.

      Hi Seth Tasscos,,
      I tye a few flies like this for a couple of friends and they do extremely well in the dark water of some of our lochs, the wild brown trout especially like this addition although I would say it would work without it as well...
