    Mick's own guitar style is adorable and unforgotten.

    Mick Ronson,s legacy is forever connected with Mr Bowie and vice versa....Mick wasn't just a guitarist he was a composer.. multi talented but multi unassuming to, the late great Randy Rhoads who very rarely cited few guitarists as an inspiration did frequently mentioned Mick as a musician and guitarist that made his chords sing, if you listen closely to Bowie's spiders era compositions the songs are very orchestrated...that's Mick's magic at work ....RIP Ronno

  • @711honved
    @711honved 10 лет назад +73

    Mick's contribution to Bowie's early success was huge. Tony Visconti has said that it was Mick who almost single handedly worked on the musical arrangements on Bowie's early album output. Mick was in the studio working several days before his untimely death in '93. Mick was not really credited (or paid) for much of his input during this period. He never lost his affection for David and loved working with him. Much missed!

      711honved It was a normal relationship for a successful singer/lead guitarist. The worst thing would be to slag off the contribution of one in favour of another - they were gunslingers together. If Ronno never got his dues then maybe Mr Defries has a view on that

    • @martingoodrich5839
      @martingoodrich5839 9 лет назад +6

      711honved I think it was more than that Ricovid. Ronson always praised Bowie for being a caring individual although It was documented that he was pretty pissed off at being dropped before the making of Diamond Dogs.

    • @mandjb72
      @mandjb72 9 лет назад +1

      Martin Goodrich I read somewhere that Bowie considered Mick for the Diamonds dogs tour but he was working with Bob Dyla at the time. Not sure how accurate as I' still reading abd finding out things

    • @711honved
      @711honved 9 лет назад +3

      mand b Not sure how this would work on timing. Bowie toured Diamond Dogs in 1974 but Dylan's Rolling Thunder Review didn't hit the road until the Fall of 1975. I would assume that Mick would have been available to tour. Ronson had already worked on many of the Diamond Dogs song arrangements and was familiar with the album.

      Speaking as a singer, to have a guitarist of Ronno's quality would have given David an enormous amount of inspiration and energy. Ronno was the bedrock that Bowie launched his glittering career on, and Mick did the same with Bowie. They helped each other to achieve their dreams, and the quality of their work is apparent, even in this film

  • @myratravin9588
    @myratravin9588 7 лет назад +14

    You can see how connected they are -- David looks like his awkward self, knowing it's been too long since they have worked together, and Ronno is just in the center of it all: sweet, kind, lyrical. I do believe they deeply cared for one another. On the third pass, they have fallen back into their mutual language of sound. Beautiful.

    As a kid I waited in line all night at Leeds University for tickets going on sale to see Spiders from Mars. Gig then cancelled so stayed out all night again to get tickets for Leeds Rollerina. Fantastic gig and seeing Mick and David was awesome. A couple of concerts later David broke the Spiders up, but I followed both around and must have seen David live half a dozen times. Mick always up there with Prince, Clapton, Bonamassa, Santana, SRV

    Bowie hamming it up again. Ronson should have had 50% of royalties on a number of Bowie's hits, very distinct and musical hard edged guitarist.

    • @WoodRatGirl
      @WoodRatGirl 10 лет назад +9

      canturgan Hey now, don't go dissing Bowie completely. In fact the record companies are more to blame, for Mick Ronson not getting a higher % of royalties. That's my humble opinion btw on this. I don't expect you to agree with me either.

    • @madeleinehague648
      @madeleinehague648 8 лет назад +6

      +CAMASHTA4 - they also got together in Toronto, on the Serious Moonlight Tour. David said, "There's a friend of mine here tonight"...and Mick was suddenly on stage. He borrowed Earl Slick's guitar and played the hell out of it, and poor Earl was terrified he was going to destroy it! Mick spent quite a lot of time in Canada, working with different musicians.

    • @ziggyfreecloud3346

      CAMASHTA4 And David was involved in all of Mick's solo stuff too. The tabloids really talk a lot of bollocks and the public keeps the plate spinning.

    Brilliant! I don't know where you got this but man did you score with this. I thought I had all the rare footage from this but you proved me wrong! Mick was sick with cancer during this recording. So this is extra special, he passed away shortly after, one has to wonder if he had lived on would he and Bowie done more together? I am shocked that I can't find any of the shows where Mick joined Bowie onstage over the years like in 1983 Serious Moonlight Tour etc. Thanks for sharing this!

    Staring at 4:12, they talk about how much Morrissey's song sounds like "Rock and Roll Suicide":
    David (sings): You're wonderful....
    Mick: I know that bit!
    David: I thought it was funny ... I thought, 'Oh, what do I do? Sue him or cover it'?

    • @brianmcneill1972

  • @DudeSilad
    @DudeSilad 7 лет назад +3

    Watching this, you realise that Bowie must have had The Next Day and Blackstar sessions filmed. I suspect one day they'll appear. Bowie was a hoarder. He kept everything from his career. Not just the important stuff like costumes, but even receipts. It stands to reason he would have wanted his recording sessions recorded. He once told a fellow musician, "never throw anything away". Songs he wrote re-appeared years later with different lyrics.

    Sometimes this is how the solos get done, in bits. You can throw it all in until you get some good bits then try to repeat on the next take & so on. Get it over with quick & let the producer sort it all out. Sounds bad in parts but Mick knew he was doing some wrong bits. A bit painful to watch him suffering but interesting footage.

    Bowie during his low 90's trying in vain to inject some mid 70's Ronson rush in his boring stockbroker career ....Interesting footage without a doubt , but this hardly looked and sounded inspiring....Ofcourse Mick loved to work with Bowie again, but still had lingering not very warm feelings towards 'the dame', who out of the blue cut off their once so successful relationship...

    Ronson sounds horrid. Not his usual tone at all. Pretty disgusting playing too. Must have been doing some hard shit. A shame cause his signature 70's sound was amazing. Looks like some pretty lame amps he's using in this studio.
