    Great footage of the 37 dragging the first 3 sets of class 313s for scrap to Eastleigh. I do wonder how stretched the 377 fleet will be with no replacement stock!

      I think southeastern has sent some 377/5s back to southern, SE has used some stored 465’s

      They may use Gatwick Expresses Class 387/2's as i've seen them more often now doing a southern service from London Bridge to Ore or East Grinstead. Or Even Victoria To Brighton.

    It is sad to see them withdrawn, but they really were just designed for short commuter runs, and not the longer routes Southern used them on. Also they were the first dual voltage EMUs in this country, and for that alone they should be remembered well. They certainly earned their keep !

    Great footage of the depot and seeing the old units go being pulled by a great sounding tractor. I'm pleased I got some footage of the 313s a few years ago as nothing last forever. Sub from me btw 👍🏻

    What are actually replacing these? Southern retired the 455s with no real replacement and by the looks of it the same is happening with the 313s.

    I’m both quite sad and glad that 313s are been withdrawn. My only issues with them is that I didn’t liked they were running Portsmouth Harbour to Brighton services, it’s too long. I went on it from Brighton to Fratton on them, and it’s not very pleasant journey. It can get very easily packed from Brighton to Barnham or Chichester. Worst of all there are no toilets which is unforgivable. These units aren’t made for longer journeys, they are far suitable for shorter journeys for Portsmouth & Southsea - Littlehampton. But I do enjoy seeing them on my train spotting days.

    • @AquaPholic
      @AquaPholic Год назад +1

      They used to be ON great northern to Moorgate no toilets then either a HOUR on a train they’ve all been scrapped now as have the 317’s

    • @joes-trainproductions5987
      @joes-trainproductions5987 Год назад

      Joke isn’t it that they use these units to run an hour journey. Such as Portsmouth Harbour to Brighton, which is like hour and half journey which is ridiculous as it gets packed quickly at Brighton. Last time I went on them which was in winter, went from Brighton to Fratton. As I come from Fareham all Southampton trains are 377 and I always catch that. But on that particular occasion Southampton services were cancelled so had no choice on getting on Portsmouth Harbour on 313, and it was horrible. Been squished in like tinned sardines until train got into Barnham or Chichester, also it was cold as they had all the windows open. Never in my life wanted to get to my destination quicker so I can get out.
      I’m glad they are going, but will do miss seeing them as they are the remaining units from the old BR days.
      As I said before they are made for short journeys, they could of kept them for Portsmouth- Littlehampton and keep 377 for Portsmouth - Brighton.

      Although I don’t travel to Brighton often but putting them on in the rush hour as a 3 car unit was out of order better travelling on the tube.

    I can’t believe the time has come, but I’m very upset & angry to see these amazing & beloved EMUs to go to… I personally wish anyone or group of people to preserved a Class 313 as it will be great for anyone to remember when travel on these units when they were in service. It would be nice if the Bluebell had one as they have Horsted Keynes and that station was until 1963 was terminus for electric trains from Hayward Heath. That would be great for the Bluebell today as not only running a 1960s EMU, but a 1980s EMU as well. That would be something different for the Bluebell to preserved Southern Region history from the 1880s to the 1980s with steam, diesel & electric traction to see & ride for the future. But sadly, I’m guessing it not possible now since these units will be all gone by the time that happing. As I just said, I’m really upset & angry to see these units gone to… And I’m very sickened by the fact they’re going to be ‘you know’ when they get to ‘you know where’.

      “They have blue-star capability , RA5 route availability, and there’s still things only they can do.” according to DRS. For comparison most other newer locomotives in service are at least RA7. Other RA5 locomotives that stuck around were the 20's and 31's before cost and annual storage periods finally saw them off.
      I feel the 1750hp and respectable tractive effort also made the 37's more appealing than pairs of type 2s.

    Good riddance. They were a rotten design even for the services they were built for (Great Northern suburban).
    Apart from the bogies - a simple design with good ride quality. I done know why these are not refurbished and put under new stock. Bogies are an expensive component.
