    I remember them in NSE livery as a kid. Impressed to see some still running considering it is nearly a 50 year old design!

    I thought that was a Mersey rail train for a second, till I realised that was a London overground station

    Before Southern, 313202 used to be operated by Silverlink Metro before London Overground replaced them with the class 378 'Capitalstars'. It returned to former territory as the West London Line was once apart of the Silverlink network and the 313/2s where main workhorses on the West and North London Lines.

    What do you mean by motor alternator, does this one have AC motors and regenerative braking? But how did it overload when it wasn't moving?

    • @AlexMetroman
      @AlexMetroman  3 года назад

      Electric Multiple Units have motor alternators. Once the fuse was replaced, the driver turned on the auxiliary power and the fuse blew, then the train overloaded. The unit must have had some sort of issue or fault to keep causing it. Having spoken to the driver and the fitter, this is what happened.

      @@AlexMetroman - to clarify, since the question seemed to be traction-related, 313s have DC traction motors powered by either a DC third rail, or else 25 kV overhead supplying a transformer & rectifier. The motor alternator (set) is a smallish DC motor coupled via a common shaft to an AC generator (an alternator) to supply 3-phase AC for onboard auxiliary power. The MA provides power for the following:
      415 V AC - headlight (lamp supplied through an additional transformer), traction/braking resistor cooling fan, coach heater fans (the heaters run on 750 V DC).
      240 V AC - cab heater fan, thermostat fans, appliance sockets.
      110 V DC - control supply, battery charging, train lighting, cab air conditioning, CCTV system.

      I see, thank you for the clarification!
