I think the idea of an undivided American is a complete pipe dream, America since it’s first conception has always had a form a division one way or another. Even during the American revolution only 1/3 of the population was actually in favor of becoming independent. In my opinion the problem with America was the fact that it is too culturally diverse and stretched too thin to properly unite under a shared culture and system of government.
We have states that would otherwise be their own countries given their size and population. The needs of one state are so wildly different than the needs of another state But for some reason we still insist on dealing with issues that only one part of the country deals with on a National scale.
