KOH is a strong base, meaning that it dissociates completely in water. It also means that if any of it came in contact with the peas, the peas would be completely fried and the experiment wouldn't work. To correct this, we dip absorbent cotton balls into the KOH first, put it at the bottom of the respirometer, and cover it with NON ABSORBENT cotton. This provides a barrier between the KOH and the peas while still allowing O2 to pass through.

You look like a mix between Rivers Cuomo and Paul Lieberstein hehe Late to the party, but this video was incredibly comprehensive and easy to understand, great job!
I love your explainations! Btw, could you please please make a video on Cellular Respiration and the Kerbs Cycle? because when you explain it I understand completely and way better than me just reading off from the textbook! (the most difficult part is the process) Thank you for uploading so many wonderful videos! It really helped me lot ! :) I can't wait for more of your videos! You rock!
Why is the equilibration period necessary? What happens during that period? I understand the rest of the experiment but that part is kind of glossed over in most explanations.
just change the town name to Bozepeople, because then it's more inclusive, although you'd need to take it up with the Montana government or the Bozeman soon-to-be-Bozepeople government.
If that statement were to have the slightest merit, it would be directed at evolutionary biology, the study of the origin and evolution of life. Biology is concerned with the biological systems that beget and appropriate life. If you're going to insult a science, you may want to make sure you're insulting the right one. But I'm sure the scientific community would love to hear your ideas of human origin and study the vast amounts of information that corroborate your hypothesis. Oh, wait...
Because when the temperature is higher there is greater kinetic energy, i believe, which speeds up the process and when temperatures drop in order to conserve energy the process slows
Jesus Christ, it's just gas volume. Yeah the kinetic energy is greater but that's a stupid way of saying "the gas has more volume". Being smart for the sake of being smart doesn't help anyone.
Independent is what is changed or manipulated, so it is the contents of the vials (germ/non-germ peas, beads). Dependent is the outcome, so oxygen consumption (by amount of water pulled in), Control is the one with just beads.

Ah yes, the kerb cycle
Anyone know the answers to the Dry Lab: Cellular Respiration lab. 🙏🙏🙏
I wish I did
Thank you so much, this was a huge help.
Heyy! Guess What? You're Awesome ;)
this was the most helpful video I have ever watched in my schooling career

God bless you son.
I think the respiration equation at 0:25 should be 6 O2
Thank you for this walkthrough. Where do you order the respirometer supplies?
What happened to the worms ?
Which software do you use to generate the line graph of the rates??
ok nice video now oil up
are the measurements in the pipettes that are most commonly used in tenths of a mL or hundredths?
10ths
Can you explain what I did wrong? The rate of respiration didn't change for either the beads alone, germinating peas or dry peas.
child, this video was uploaded in 2012 LOL
This helped me a lot no lie
I'm glad we're all being honest here.
Very good info really nice
Me and my friends think you should start a Minecraft Let's Play Channel (for scientific purposes)
