I went camping with my girlfriend here in Arkansas near a dam and at first I thought that noise was the dam, but realized later it was the cicadas!😂 I always rig a tarp at the entrance of my tents and I just ordered the Gazelle from Amazon, so I have been watching videos on this tent when yours popped up. The algorithms are amazing!😂 Thanks for sharing!😊

Cicadas come out only every 10 years or so and have so little time to mate and then die. Just a little food for thought, but yes hard to hear. I was actually hiking one year when they were out and is impressive, you can actually hold them in your hands to watch up close since mating is all they have in mind they don’t move much.

Condolences on dad… I know the feeling. I see mine in everything I do… when u have good teachers, it’s hard to say goodbye. He seems to have taught you well. Thanks for the vid! And keep honoring pops… they deserve it, no matter what.

I have a love/hate relationship with Gazelle tents. I've had one T3, and two T4 Overland Editions. The T3 door zippers failed (2020) - all 4 of them. I needed a replacement ASAP, as I was "transitioning" to life as a nomad. It was under warranty, and would be replaced as such. Trouble was, the T3 was on backorder, so I decided to upgrade to the T4 OE for what seemed like a very reasonable price. Back on the road - the T4's zippers fail. Back to the city to wait for another replacement under warranty. I'm using that one now, and the zippers have ALL failed. I've gotten pretty good (so far) at "fixing them", which entails squeezing the back-end of the pull where it's supposed to interlock the teeth together. Also, a carpenter's pencil is handy to rake along the teeth to help smooth the action a bit.
I think there's a design flaw in pairing the hub style walls with a zipper that is struggling to deal with the tension created.
Also, quality control was asleep at the wheel on my current tent. - most notably during the seam taping process, and the sewing of the panels.
Of course, not everyone uses (or depends on) their tent as much as I do. Camping tents are not designed for heavy use, or they'd cost way more.
    I think I need a van. 😆
Oh, about knots - I like the app Knots 3D. It has user controlled speed of an animation of the knot being tied. Very handy!

I actually use a gazelle tx8 footprint tied off over my gazelle tx3 overland edition tent as a awning, works like a charm, just use two extendable hiking poles through the grommets on the foot print and guy them out

Is one of your reasons for adding the awning the fact that the factory rainfly does not entirely cover the doors? So if you open the doors in the rain, rainfly run-off will flow inside the tent(without your awning)?

Should use a center pole 6 inches taller for a peak in case of rain. I have a 12x24 tarp I use on my Kodiak flexbow, and my Gazelle overland hub.

Always practice your knots get like 18 or 20 inches of paracord and practice knots sitting around your campfire that’s enough to tie all your camping knots and small enough to put in a pocket

For you and any who watch this, get some seam sealer and go over every seam there is. You can also use seam tape before actual use.

Thanks for sharing your hacks and ideas. Other people with the tent said sometimes rain may get thru windows. Does this happen?? Or does fly cover it?
I love idea with the solar patio lights for camp.

I like you honoring your dad by learning the knots. Very cool! Thanks for the video. I am in FL now but lived in centerville OH for 14 years. I've been to Hueston Woods several times. Camping season down here now and looking at the T4 tent as a larger alternative to my 3 person marmot. How has it held up for you?
I need some skyline chili and marions piazza!

I’m returning mine, poor door design trips everyone, even the dog. Rain&snow comes in every time door is used because flap folds in. Too bad, material was nice, she looked good too, but doors are a killer problem with this tent.

They’re cicadas not locus, I’ve been hiking around when they were out (only once in about 10 years) is amazing, very interesting insects specially when you see them up close and many animals depend on them when they come out. They’re out from underground, shed their outer skeleton, get higher on the trees and sing to find a mate, this only takes a few days. Thanks so much for all the hacks, so sorry about your dad.
