Watched all the videos on SSL (including yours) and I am definitely getting one. I do primarily electronic/techno music either using a DAW and DAW'less using some hardware synths, I had the option to just get an Apollo UAD but for the similar price tag getting a physical SSL mixer is a whole new level. Shame it doesn't have ADAT to expand it but I guess I could agregate my Audient id22 for extra two inputs (Mac) I have used SSL's in the past, E series and an EWS and have fallen in love with them so I expect to get that SSL sound (minus the EQ) wish there would be at least one sweepable eq for the mids.
Thank you for your SSL Big Six videos, much appreciated! Mine has some DC issues and when using it in input or traciking mode, I see a significant DC offset in the DAW on every second channel. Do you face the same problem with your one? I remove it with a plugin, then the background noise is neglectable. But without, the noise level is 10dB higher as on the unaffected channels and reaches -70dB. All my external staff is connected via balanced cables, maybe I should test it with "normal" ones.
As you're recording stuff into the Big six, before you even mix and sum, can you adjust compression, eqs, panning, etc. on the way in as this sends individual tracks to your daw? Also can you adjust compression, eq, panning after you've recorded without summing? Thanks, digging this channel as I'm looking to purchase a big six or Craneborne r8 soon (but probably both). Subscribed.
Thanks! You can't go wrong with either. Yes on the Big Six, you can do all of the above or neither. SSL has a USB Out pre/post fader option so you can choose whether you record as it's pulled up on mixer or just raw tracks to mix ITB later. HTH!
i had apollo X6 i sold it i prefer the B6 converters and the circuitry of the boards probably makes it sound even better. I dont mis the X6 besides i can still use the plug ins. Also the headroom and punc of the B6 is insane and the DI on Bass anyone that uses instruments out of the box synths , guitars, keyboards the B6 is a must. This kills any interface IMHO :)
Ha! I was just wondering if the regular SiX would be a good option for a submixer for the Big SiX for sends and pedals. I'm sure it would be but feels like too much of an indulgence!
@@MKDVB It's extremely flexible, I think it can do a thing or two the big six can't. Maybe if you needed a multipurpose tool for at least one other thing occasionally. If you use an interface/pre/converter besides the big six, one with a lot of channels, then yes.
Thank you for your detailed Review 👍✨ Allow me to make a guess but …your recorded voice sounds like as if the microphone (maybe a condenser) was the wrong way round …..because there is a lack of direct sound? ☺️ Best wishes ✨
Worse! The clip on condenser was on the chair out of shot. I tried to clean it best I could w/ CVox but entire video was shot like that & couldn't bring myself to reshoot!
Ah i see …well, we never stop learning right ? ✨I’m sure next time your recording will be fine again. I remember a Vocal Session and i turned the Condenser Mic in the wrong direction (180 degree off 🤦🏻♂️) …that was hard to explain after his best Take 😬 Ps. dont worry about your recording….i am trained but my (untrained) Girlfriend says she can understand you fine over the iPad Speakers 💁🏻♂️ Thanks again
Yes, I've thought about the KeyPre ... alot! 🤓 Never pulled the trigger because it just feels like a bit too much for what I'm assuming will be a very incremental improvement. I've talked to Avedis folks about it and it's not a tone or vibe machine but I'd love to pick one up one of these days!
You gotta look at what you’re getting. Each one of those mono channels if you bought them separately as a 500 series it’ll costyou $500 a piece. So that’s 2k for those super analog channels. Look up how much the g comp costs alone is $2500. So if you break up each channel and buy each channel separately you get a better deal buying the big six. I completely understand that this unit isn’t something that most would buy. I agree that one can find better and more useful gear for 3k but it’s all what the engineers or producers have the need for.
Yes I would say people confuse value for cost sometimes but I gotta add that it's hard for me to think of better, more useful gear I could have bought for 3k. Oh and buy used!
some good content but distorted audio, which is odd for an audio oriented channel

If you get one, would love to hear your thoughts on how it compares to the bigger SSLs you've used!

Driver issue. Updating the firmware removed the DC from the signal.
Glad to hear it resolved well for you!

The headroom is crazy! I picked up an avedis step down thing-a-ma-jig to use with outboard on the main inserts becaise of it!
Great choice. Love the regular SiX and worth every penny.

If you have DB25 stuff then yes, for sure.

@@thepanicroommastering2062 thank you friend!
You have some Avedis preamps... have you thought about the KeyPre? There are no videos on YT on it. Strange.

Camborne audio for me 😂
Best sounding recording box I've ever had!
$400 mixer for $3k.. no thanks

Which $400 mixer has this feature set? Please enlighten us.
@@MKDVBany issues with noise coming from the mono channels?
@Reggi_Sample i haven't noticed any. Sometimes if i use a cheap power supply, I can hear hum but usually i power thru a cioks with no prob.
