@Luke Andrew Thank you so much for taking the time to write this comment, this made our evening! Glad to hear you are getting closer to your dreams - go chase them 🤙 Hopefully we can provide helpful info for the Mog! (not so much for the beard sorry 😁)
Ahh, the memories. We did Brisbane to Brisbane the long way round in 1993/4 in a VW Kombi. Couldn’t get up Cape York above Daintree then but did most of the coast plus a trip down from Darwin to Ulura and Kakadau. 80,000km in a year. I hope you two have as much fun as we did! I love watching your adventures during the cold winter here in Ireland. Maybe someday we’ll get back to do it again. Thanks for reminding me of some special times. Take care and enjoy every minute.
Recently stumble across you guys on tiktok. Gone back a yr to watch from start of the mog build. Incredible build. Doing an amazing job. The detail you guys are going too is amazing.
Re comment at about 12.13 about tapping into the hand brake airline: the air keeps the brakes off, not on. Dirty great big springs keep the park brake on, when air is not applied to the diaphrams that rest against the springs. So an air leak would put the brakes on. EVERYthing on a mog runs off air, so it pays to have some air hose repair stuff with you. The mog runs three air pressures: about 230psi, about 100 psi and about 3 psi.
You have inspired me to buy and Unimog and I just bought it home. I have wanted one for a long time and use to drive them in the Army but you videos gave me the final push. I am watching your videos closely and think you a doing a great job. I am waiting to see Air-conditioning going into the cab.
Also add a extra hose with a triger blower to blow the dust out of cabin. Just a suggestion. Is the steering wheel adjustable you looked cramped sitting in the seat with no air. Enjoy your build keep up the good work. Cheers
If you’re not going down the stereo route then spend the money you save on good quality Bluetooth headphones with noise canceling, trust me when you need sleep while someone else is driving they are worth there weight in gold 👍 coming along nicely great work guy’s
My thoughts exactly. I bought the Bose NC 700 noise suppressing headphones and I used them in my noisy Landcruiser before it got stolen and burnt 😈. I could listen to music, make phone calls it's mic is good and you can set the noise cancelling to complete off if you want. The only trouble is that you have trouble hearing someone in the cab talking if the noise cancelling is on.
Just a tip. Buy spray adhesive from a plastering shop. So much cheaper and no waiting for the contact to bond. Spray one surface then the back of the other. Job done.
My Dad use work just around the corner in a panel beating shop from those factory units about 40 years ago. There use to be another Old Hardware shop close by to you there , They use to employ Down syndrome people to work there which is fantastic. It was an old place when I was a kid, It was probably the most dusty shop I have ever been in in my life. Funny how you see I place online and it brings back old memories. Thanks for the Vid and the memories.
That's great! Shame a lot of these small businesses have shut - much too hard to compete with these big conglomerates. You're very welcome and cheers for watching
Cheers to the most adventure, inspirative, creative fitness, and self-sufficient couple on RUclips. I admire what you are doing with the Unimog. Without being professional mechanics you are doing outstanding work.
This thing is coming together great! I have a 1969 404 that I am plan to raptor coat the entire thing. Seeing you guys do it definitely confirmed I''l be moving forward with that!
I'm watching this and thinking... this is just the cab, there is still the canopy to go... Your build is looking gorgeous, I'm in the middle of my own build so I know how challenging and rewarding it all is. I commend you for finding the energy to film and share the build process, best I'm going to manage is a tour when its all done, hahaha... See you on the road soon :)
I know.. so much more to do 😄 Filming every step is definitely challenging but we love seeing how far we came from! Would love to see some pics of your build too 👍
I’m excited for you two! How about a sneak peek of a possible design for the “box” on the back? Fellow RUclipsrs, Goonzquad, took a US military version vehicle with a military radio/office box already on the rear and converted it for living. Real basic stuff done without knowledge or help from others but they have tons of enthusiasm. The Mog and the previous mentioned seem great for open spaces but possibly a bit limited in forested areas. I’m excited to see your efforts put to use. Maybe even in a densely forested area? All the best!
go ninja Ange ,just a small question for Chris ,.when you ran the airline through the metal part of the cab did you use a rubber grommet to help prevent chaffing ? just wondering as didn't see it in the clip .amazing job so far ,cant wait for the next episode. Oh that door closing all the time is a pain can you put a clamp on the door stop shaft to prevent it from closing on you .maybe a pair of multi grips .
Get someone to hook up a reversIng camera you won’t know yourself you can use an iPad or phone for your camera or put in a small screen👌👍 awesome work guys
Not sure if anyone mentioned, check you still have full throttle & clutch travel after putting all that shit under the pedals. don't worry about brake pedal because if it goes that low your in the shit anyway.
That stuff cost's a fortune, I looked at using some of it on my 80 series but it was wayyy too much $$$... it's coming along slowly but getting there.. A good trick I learn't to save me heaps of time back and forth was to take sheets of newspaper and some stickytape out to the vehicle, and make and cut templates from the newspaper and use them to cut out my door cards and side panels. I have a new suspension seat going into my 80 series next month which will be much better for my back. I have driven those things when I was in the Navy many years ago now but they were the beast and would go anywhere.
agree.. i drive a convertible. stereo system is useless. I find just using earphones to my phone better, because they cut lots of outside noise. by the time you crank your music up enough to get over the top of the mog noise.....
Not sure what that "marine carpet" means and what it withstand. But I always found useful to exchange carpet like floor covers with rubber mats with some sidewalls, and in the trunk with rubber mat which has decent sidewalls. Any dust, or melted snow, or rests from the muddy boots .. all you need is to dump it from the rubber and if needed then little "touch" with pressure washer and they are as a new. And those are civil cars for on-road. Not even heavy duty offroad rig where I would opt for something which could be submerged (during fording) or "cleaned-up" with a hose or pressure washer. So how this carpet withstand a deeper fording and water inside the cab?
You guys are awesome. You are doing a splendid job. I am enjoying you videos. Looks like you moved the steering wheel from left to right. How did you do it?
Hey Guys.. been watching from the sidelines for a while and may be about to pull the trigger on a mog for ourselves too... We have been travelling around with an ex army tandem trailer as our camper base station and a patrol as a tow vehicle. We are wondering if the canopy and hoops that you removed several weeks ago are something you would consider parting with (paid for of course) You guys are doing a great job by the way. Keep up the good work. We are looking to hit the road on a working lifestyle change too. Im looking at taking our gate repair and installation business on the road full time. Should be fun... Thanks again.
Hey guys been following for sometime now, love ya work. Can you tell me, your accents I can't make out its been driving me nuts, Chris sounds like Kiwi maybe, but Ange I have no idea lol
Ha ha ha reliable and Unimog don't go in the same sentence, drove them for 15 years in the Army (called it my two door Merc with sunroof) and the only reliable thing was they would be broken regularly regardless of maintenance and the never ending need for fuel.. Mine was a RAEME workshop truck full off Unimog & aircraft spares..
I've got ambitions of getting a Mog and making a camper out off it but after seeing Chris sitting in it, he looked a bit cramped. I'm nearly 6'3" 189cm tall and the leg room is looking concerning, I have to say 🤔🇦🇺
Yeah surprisingly little leg room in these trucks without spending big money on an extended cab. Not a deal breaker for me - prob just means more stops to stretch the legs
Are you excited for next week's episode? 🎨👀
Yup! Bummed I have to wait till Friday for the next build episode 😅

How much longer before you can go on a journey?

I used bags of gravel to mold the carpet around the curved places. Left them in for a week came out good
That's a bloody good idea
Hey Ange and Chris. The sound deadening and new air-lift seat are great improvements. Thanks for taking us along on the upgrade.
You have inspired me to buy and Unimog and I just bought it home. I have wanted one for a long time and use to drive them in the Army but you videos gave me the final push. I am watching your videos closely and think you a doing a great job. I am waiting to see Air-conditioning going into the cab.

Great job!

It’s looking so good. Nice work. You two should be very proud of what your doing.

I believe they sold the top, bows, and bed sides in a previous video.
Awesome, that seat great upgrade.
Where did you get it?
Not in the back of the cab with the Airlines. Is it a tilt cab model? if yes you have to disconnect it each time to access the motor.
I hope you have joined the Bunnings trade program to get discounts mate. If you have an ABN do it.
