- Our stay in Jakarta is a little unexpected but we're here now so we have to get out and explore the city! It's time to try some tatty indonesian flavours and spices and visit some of the hotspots around the city. First impressions so far though we think we're gonna like Indonesia!

Hey, we're Eoin and Aisling, a couple from Ireland who have packed their bags, waved goodbye to home and set off to travel the world in search of new adventures!
We started our journey by spending 3 months walking from the top to the bottom of Croatia and exploring a few of the boarding countries. Then at the start of January 2022 we hopped on a flight to South East Asia!

Holy moses that's alot of malls haha
When you're in Jakarta you must go to Monas, Kota Tua, National Museum, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (Miniature of many Indonesia's places & culture) & etc.
Also please eat local dish from Jakarta such as Nasi Uduk, Nasi Goreng Kebon Sirih (Kebon Sirih Fried Rice) & many more.
And meanwhile you're in Indonesia please visit also other cities such as Aceh, Medan, Padang, Palembang, Lampung, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Malang, Bali, Lombok, Komodo Island, Makasar, Maluku & many mores, all city have difference ethnic, history, tourist spot & many kinds of food for you to taste it.

BNI City Station (for airport train and certain commuter trains) is the connecting station to the Dukuh Atas MRT Station, Sudirman Station (for commuter trains), BRT TransJakarta bus stops, and the upcoming Dukuh Atas LRT Station. The construction site you waved at is the extension project of the underground MRT. So, you're in part of Sudirman Central Business District (SCBD).
It will take years to build the whole new capital city. Until then, Jakarta remains as the capital.
Wow that's so interesting! Sounds like theres plenty of options of public transport around the city! That's so good, we only walked around while we were there

public transportation in Jakarta is various, extensive and integrated. you can get anywhere with it. it's pretty comfortable and all of them are air-conditioned, but most importantly it's cheap. the tricky part about it is that it gets packed during rush hours. payment systems are all cashless so you need either a transportation card or you can pay by using jakarta's public transportation mobile apps called "jaklingko".

Welcome to Indonesia. Btw it's normal if you sweat in Indonesia, even all Indonesians sweat too. Precisely if you don't sweat it means you're not normal LMAOOO
You must try street food called the sweet martabak (martabak manis) with classic taste, chocolate and cheese. Maybe in the western chocolate and cheese not so familiar, even weird. But when you taste it, will blow your mind. All foreigners who tried for the first time, the first word spoken just one word: WOW!!!
We have seen so many things with chocolate and cheese and we were so confused haha but we can't judge until we try haha

We had a great time here
you can try to mbloc, SBCD near senayan. Also to hutan kota in senayan, Pluit Indah Kapuk beach, labu bajo, bali, cikole forest lembang in west java, mount tangkuban parahu, telaga saat puncak in Puncak, Kopi Langitan (Kapilih) in bogor, Pelangi Cafe & Resto in bogor (west java). Puncak Halimun Camp Bogor (rent camping) so can see bigger mountain from above. also see great mountain in Bromo, east java. can see plateaus in dieng mount, central java.
We love love love hiking and climbing mountains so we hope to check a few of these out! Thank you

Banana nangka = nangka is jackfruit. In Indonesia it's called pisang nangka. The vendor said "manis'" means 'sweet'. Hope you have nice vacation in my country.

Some of the coffees we've had from the street are so tiny so a shot is the perfect way to describe them haha Starbucks on wheels

If you have language barrier just use google translate, many Indonesian will understand. For pay how much the price in rupiah just use a calculator in your phone & ask them to type it.
We definitely for Google translate back out again but the calculator trick is actually a really good one. We have used it alot with locals and it makes things alot easier for everyone haha

It is hot in Jakarta, Bali, Jogja, and many cities in Indonesia. But you can go to city like Bandung or Malang if you want have a cool city.
Btw, Jakarta is miniature of Indonesia. You can find all foods from Indonesia in Jakarta.. you can also find difference tourist spot in Indonesia. There are amusement park, museum, even Jakarta also have Kepulauan Seribu which is archipelago with beach and white sand.. something that people don't expect to find it in Big City like Jakarta
You will get tan skin in jakarta, don't forget to making hotel tour guys.

Hi there.. Indonesian currency is simply similar to US dollar, with exception of zeros.. Just treat those last 3 digits as USD's cents. We also usually say 20.000 simply as "twenty". and 20500 as "twenty five hundred". So, you can treat those last 3 digits as out equivalent of cents. Much simpler that way.
Anyway, the one that you bought was banana fritter, and Jakarta is a couple times bigger than manila. While you were in BNI Center, the food city are in Kelapa Gading, PIK, and Muara Karang. They are pretty far from your place was. Let's say, Jakarta is so big, that we are divided into 5 cities, and managed as one state. North Jakarta is a city inside DKI Jakarta State, and widely regarded as food city. While south Jakarta is regarded as cafes and hangout places. West Jakarta is mostly business district, and east one are mostly residentials. Yours is central Jakarta, which is regarded as administration center.

@@EoinandAisling Ah one more, regarding currency, next time you come to Indonesia, or asian countries, find out information about QRIS for foreigner. Many establishment doesn't accept cash anymore. Indonesia is transitioning to digital currency, and people adopt it much faster than we thought. Some even remove the old ways of payment (cash, credit cards and the like), like public transport or food stalls for example. If you don't have QRIS, the alternative is e-money card. You can deposit cash into e-money at indomart, alfamart, or circle-k. that will get you started. But the main payment method nowadays is QRIS.
Indonesia's capital will move to the Indonesian Nusantara of Kalimantan. because Jakarta is already crowded

Hello bro & sis. The fried banana = Pisang Goreng; fried tofu = Tahu Goreng; fried fermented green bean = Tempe Goreng. All of fried things = Gorengan. You have to try Nasi Goreng (fried rice) of the street vendor. You are not complete in Indonesia until you eat Street Nasi Goreng. Enjoy Indonesia! :)

We had set aside one month to just relax in Bali, we felt like we needed a base for a while and less moving around but then we have another month to check out some of the islands and climb some volcanos!
