In Indonesia, racism still exists, sometimes a small form of racism is implied or hidden in a joke when we banter between friends. Our nation is not a perfect nation, but we hope we can continue to uphold our country's slogan "Bhinneka Tunggal Ika" which means "unity in diversity" because we have various races. Thanks for the video
Racism is basically an act of discrimination against a race. if you mean to describe the characteristics of a certain race, it is only limited to a joke, it is not an act of racism because there is no element of discrimination there. don't get me wrong in interpreting racism so that new sensitivities emerge.
Many black people who are not angry are called "black-man" in Indonesia because they understand that it is not a element of discrimination, it's the same when we call white people "bule". in Indonesia, all of these calls do not contain elements of discrimination, they are only limited to calls to describe the characteristics of a race. Don't equate it with the US when calling the N-word, automatically it is an act of discrimination because there is a bad history of discrimination behind the call.
Racist jokes do exist in Indonesia. I'm Indian-Chinese born and raised in Indonesia. My friends always joke about Indian and Chinese people (stereotypes) and I also joke back about Javanese and Sundanese stereotypes. No one ever has hard feelings about it because we know those were jokes and we truly respect each other. In my experience, people who call on others racist have hatreds buried deep in their hearts just as much as a true racist do.

Racism and discrimination stem from disparity and injustice. Even in Indonesia, where there are disparities in areas such as education and healthcare, the habit of showing respect and kindness towards others has helped to unite the diverse population. The moral values held by Indonesians have played a key role in fostering a sense of togetherness. 🥰🥰
This, racism and discrimination are probably symptoms of deeper problems of the society, usually inequality, disparity, injustices, etc. Indonesia is not exactly free of racism either (especially worse during pre-reformation), but our cultural value and national historical root has make the Indonesia that's fairly tolerant you see nowadays; even with the same inequality, disparity, and injustice problems. Doesn't mean we should be lulled to this false sense of security though, eventually if the deeper problems persists, especially social inequality is not handled well, we will be well on express train to ethno-religious-social conflicts, maybe even way worse than the US now.
A lot of Indonesians have black/brown friends and guess what their nicknames are? Blacky, Keling, Ambon, and the list go on. Most of Indonesians respect other people in front of 'that people', once you're out of sight you might be the main topic of their convo. About moral value, oh idk where to start about this, try being gay or apostate, you will see what kind of moral value they hold on to.

Just a story, I had a colleague, he's a US citizen but originally from Africa (he migrated). He came to Indonesia for work and based in Jakarta. One day, we had a workshop in Jayapura (it's in Papua). He told me, that nobody thought he was a foreigner, even people tried to make small talk to him in Indonesian... Until he opened his mouth and replied in English.. 😄😄
So, i dont believe when you wrote that NOBODY here thought he was a foreigner.
@@tonce5508 when he said NOBODY, he meant nobody in Jakarta. Of course nobody might be an exaggeration, but most people in Jakarta has never interacted with black skin enough to tell the difference.
8:30 Asia-Afrika Street is named after Konferensi Asia-Afrika (Afro-Asian Conference) in 1955. It sparked the independent movement across Africa. Even one of the country which had the representation in the conference did not even had a flag yet, and the committee created it. Nelson Mandela often mentioned the importance of Afro-Asian Conference for the African countries. Yet, it is way underrated since it is not the western favor. On the contrary, it shows the real face of the West in the history.

We have had problems with racism, in the period between 1998-2004ish there were many riots caused by ethnic/religious strife. But we are still united as a nation and learning to develop a cohesive national identity. There are still incidents of racism nowadays but not as massive, those incidents are small and still controllable. We are a country which had been independent for less than 100 years, before that we were many ethnicities and kingdoms with no unity between them. We still have a long way to go but we believe we will become more unified in the future.

Hi bro.. What happened bro? As Indonesian, I feel weird while read the title of your video.. This country doesn't recognize differences in ethnicity bro, I mean we tolerate each other in our country... just think we all are equal, respect each other's differences.. In Indonesia there are more than 300 ethnic groups, and we still consider all of them as brothers. .. If you have travel around at least 3 different big islands in Indonesia, you will feel a different atmosphere and culture.. I have been to several different islands, such as Sumatra, Java, Madura, Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa and Flores. Everything will feel like traveling to several countries, only for us as Indonesian to communicate in many regions in Indonesia there is no language barrier because there is a unified language as the national language, namely Bahasa Indonesia because it is impossible to communicate for every province who have a different language. And here there are 1300+ regional languages. Don't blame your country too bro.. and there must be strong and charismatic leadership to dig back a sense of brotherhood as a nation. Just start to spread kindness and mutual respect there will definitely be no racism, because racist actions are a manifestation of a feeling of being superior to other people who have no tolerance and have no feeling that we are all equal as humans.. Understanding each other feels Excellence itself causes division, conflict and war. Look at Indonesia like hundreds countries in a country but we can unite with our national motto "Binneka Tunggal Ika" which means "Unity in Diversity".. Enjoy learning many things from Indonesia bro and enjoy your journey too..By the way, you have excelent video editing, bro 👍. God Bless..🙏

So, i dont believe when you wrote that NOBODY here thought he was a foreigner.

8:30 Asia-Afrika Street is named after Konferensi Asia-Afrika (Afro-Asian Conference) in 1955. It sparked the independent movement across Africa. Even one of the country which had the representation in the conference did not even had a flag yet, and the committee created it. Hi Sheku, hope that you are enjoying your visit to Indonesia. As someone who had lived pretty much in the most conservative sided part of the US, i can totally understand what you feel. I think that with the current condition of the US, more and more Black Americans are tempted to also live and to work here as well. Since this country, which actually is as far as from the West Coast to the East Coast, is large... many more things for you to discover and to unravel ahead. My best tip will always be to taste every best local cuisine from each city. You will discover how the tastebud can be so different, even if they are in the same island. Even the soy sauce ketchup has different ingredients. Enjoy!
We still like n enjoyings sheku content video , what ever you come from , 100% love this content , tetap sehat n vit stamina , terus dengan ide-ide kreatifnya
❤respect!!
We welcome anyone to come to our country, as long as they don't make a fuss and don't touch on issues of religion and politics, it's very sensitive here, but we don't discriminate about race and skin color
And im subscribe your channel. Goodluck bro
very interesting video with well-organized storytelling, great job, it is nice to hear a genuine review of our culture that is important to enrich our society, thank you for report
We are friendly in real life, but in social media, don't mess with us, it's more powerfull than american, trust me, don't mess with us.
My blood is red, my bones are white, that is the meaning of the Indonesian flag, That is what unites the Indonesian people of different skin colors 🇮🇩🇮🇩🇮🇩
For your information :
Indonesia has ideology says "bhineka tunggal ika" berbeda-beda tapi tetap satu. Which mean is "different but still one". We have so many different people here. But we are one.
So racism still exist, but its our enemy here.
Thank you for visiting Indonesia and coming to my city, Bandung. Here we don't discriminate between ethnicity, culture and skin color.
I live here and my favorite restaurant is sate pak gino. The prices are a bit expensive but worth it. You should try sate buntel.
I have had my fear share of sate but if I manage to again I will try to share that with you all.
@@Shekumanstravel seriously? Oh come on, man. Sate is one of Barrack Obama's favorite dish while he spend his childhood in Indonesia. If you're in my hometown, i'll buy it for you for free.
Sate is good.. (chiken, lamb, and beef sate) Since I don't really like peanut sauce, I always order it with kecap sambal (chilli soy sauce).
it's nice to get out sometimes to leave toxic people in the west, heal yourself.
Nice place
I am from here ,but I didn't grow up here
How did you learn editing a video? You packed this video just excellent... Thank you for coming here...
Beautiful country, beautiful people, if you have respect and be polite. Food is just enak so yes but one thing is not good sometimes, the road lol
Terima kasih Indonesia people
Well shit , .. that's exactly true the road is ugly , and it must be fixed
I feel you as Indondesian. The road is shit. But we are still developing there are rooms for improvement. Hopefully it will be better in the near future and thank you for appreciating our country ❤️🙏
I don't know about every place, Indonésia is a big country, that is why I said sometimes because for example around jakarta bogor the road is not good but I did go to sukabumi and then the road was good, in yogyakarta also in the city the road was good(no truck is one of the reasons)
@@devitaromlah2866 im Indonesian and we must feel ashamed of our roads. Theres alot of reason including corruption , and lack of "kepedulian" in Indonesia infrastructure
In Indonesia, everyone can be an individual, don't view too much about race but if something happens always see it as personal 🙏
Well said

thank you @Sheku Mans for praising me country , i am a Indonesian btw , am in Makassar , you should go to makassar , it has great food and great people there , the rendang here is delicious
Bro, if you go to the eastern part of Indonesia, you will find something a little similar to what is in your mind and heart 👌
Everyday I am learning and most of the things you mentioned got some truth. Thank you for your contribution and I will prove going forward.
Jangan biasa'in pake kata "BAHASA" blok, karena "BAHASA" itu artinya language in english, bilang aja indonesian or indonesian language.
Dr ketidaktahuan orang indo bahasa inggrisnya "bahasa", maka nya mereka mungkin pengen bilang you can speak indonesian language? Tp karena mereka tidak tau bahasa inggrisnya "bahasa", jd mereka bilangnya you can speak bahasa indonesia (yg harusnya indonesian language)?.
Ow you're absolutely right dude! In east Indonesia there is Papua island, the land where the origin of millions Papuans who have black skin. They are our family, and now you are also our brother! 🤝
No matter what color you are, Indonesia will welcome you with warm hands
Im glad you had a great time! I think its important to note that this experience isnt universal.
Many Indonesian people treat foreigners with respect only for tourist money and make racist remarks behind their back. I've seen it countless times in Jakarta and Bali.
Stay safe everyone👍
@rismansomary9881 Pindah donk ke luar negeri sana..
many tourists that come to Indonesia especially Bali just to being crazy, and do whatever they want here, in Indonesia wherever you go, if you respect the ppl and the culture, they won't being rude to you, i live in Bali, there are few times i almost beat tourists here because of their actions are so impolite, not obeying the rules. i hate to say all of this, but basically if you are honored person, you'll get honor and respect from Indonesian
@rismansomary9881 Ya udah segera pindah..
@Risman Somary enak kalau punya duit
@Risman Somary gatau bersyukur
Very ironical because America is the number one who always talk about human right and human right, egality and egality, etc. xD
