My wife and I have collected many books on growing food and bushcraft so we can always have access to information, I have the marlin spike saylor knot book, it’s old but useful. I have a big collection of old hand tools for digging, processing wood, and clearing land, this stuff will never go out of style.

Almost every Country in Europe has told their people to prepare for at least a year of a total collapse or war. America doesn't even have bomb shelters anymore. {We don't have a strategic oil reserve either}... I've got elderly parents I care for in Florida. I've dug a well, and put in a septic tank, {no fields} stocked up with food, Freedom seeds, heirloom seeds, and packed our go bags to head to my property in the Mountains of Western NC. That's all I can do. I'm 65, my husband died 2 years ago, and my parents are 91 years old. If you want to be as safe as possible, do everything you can to ensure it. I'm also a Christ Follower. I don't live in fear for us, but thankfully, the Lord blessed me with a few working Brain Cells... So I prep!

I couldn't allow my folks, who worked hard, and now can't remember things, to be sent away for someone else to care for them. They are VERY active, they just need help to remember the basics. My religious leaders have been preparing us since 2006 pretty steady. They started us out with keeping a 3 day supply of food and water then went to two weeks to three months and we are at least prepped for that. They have always kept us spiritually prepped

Something I would recommend for putting together bug out boxes, would be items that have multiple uses. Items like fishing line, besides being used for fishing, it can be used for sewing clothing, suturing wounds, trip wires (which I have seen firsthand for boobytraps), snares. Duct tape is another item that has multiple uses. Not just for taping things together, it can be used for starting a fire, sealing a wound, sealing a blown radiator hose (which I have personally done on a 2-1/2 ton cargo truck on the Interstate in the middle of nowhere), repairing clothing, tarps, making a drinking cup, making a bucket to carry water. You get the idea. You have to think outside the box.
