Straw man argument. No one says patriotism is loyalty to a government. And the idea that 'Patriotism is a constant effort to do good for the people of your country" is license for every nutcase to say whatever they believe is for the greater good. The people burning down buildings and rioting in the streets claimed it was for the good of the country, but tell that to the people who had their businesses and lives destroyed. Patriotism is meant to be love of home, love of your country. A patriot doesn't say "My country right or wrong" but will at least give their country the benefit of the doubt now and then. A lot of people could try doing that now and then.
@@amsob77 A government isn't to control a country it's to serve it. It's to serve the people who belong to that country. Caring about your country starts by caring about those in it, not a created body that has been corrupted by power and greed. It's nearly impossible to love a country that ignores freedom for the fight over security. It's the land of the free not land of the safe. Freedoms we have provide safety to us. The rule of thumb is "My rights end where your rights begin". A patriot will say if their country is doing right or wrong because if the citizens don't keep the country in check who will? Giving the benefit of the doubt is the same as turning a blind eye to what is really going on
He shouldn't be pardoned as that requires a presupposed acceptance of guilt as it relates to a crime (i.e.: I pardon you for X and therefore you are no longer held criminally liable for X; meaning you did X) ; moreover he hasn't been tried in court so there been no finality to whether he has committed a crime or not. He should be exonerated of any charges if anything.
@@BudSimple Rather than a inanimate statue, would it not be better if the federal government drafted legislation or "statute" named after Snowden, for e.g.: "The Edward Snowden Act". Statues are nice, but they can be taken down. Statutes however, they can have a much longer impact upon your guys country. P.S. I'm Canadian.
He may have ended up giving up more than that. We (the public at large) will need to choose between being free from prying eyes and our internet activities. Governments are no strangers to removing things they don't own such as minerals, liberties and freedoms, and at bets will charge a fee for returning what wasn't theirs to begin with. Iran 1953 to present day Ghana governments need to be stopped.
There was a time that i felt the same way. Every movie and documentary sure furthered that narrative. What those films didnt get into is that he did not do what he did out of patriotism. He did it because thats the mission he was given by the CIA. This happened at a time when surveillance as we know it today was first forming and that there a fierce rivalry to say the least between the CIA and the NSA over which agency was going going to be the United States premier and most well funded intelligence apparatus. The CIA wanted it bad enough for its many dark and nefarious activities takings place around the globe that they were willing to place an operative at the NSA to blow the whistle causing a scandal that would result in the NSA being disbanded. Leaving the CIA as the head of the already massive group of American intelligence entities. Blowing the whistle to restore liberty and privacy to your fellow countrymen is not the same as blowing the whistle to take down one constitution trampling agency just so another even more corrupt can take its place. I get some people would find the Hollywood version much much less unsettling than reality but before you reply by telling me in wrong look in to it a little. You may have to dig a little deeper than asking Siri but the information is there for anyone to read. He is not a patriot from where I'm standing.
It hasn't happened bc that's how deep the swamp is. Currently still a lot of American government enjoy the royalties of political power without fully and truly prioritizing the constituency first.
Snowden could had kept quiet and keep earning a big paycheck but chose to expose his government for moral conscience and fibre and his fellow man. Truly a hero of our times.

I support him like others also said but I think the problem more people didn't initially stand up for him is prob due to the same reason that I did not myself immediately , and that reason is there was a total media blackout on his whistleblowing and I due to not using social media I simply did not hear about Snowden or what he did for us until honestly a few years after his initial whistleblowing and coming forward. Based on that I'm gonna bet many more others who didn't intially stand up for this man are prob due to the same reason I just explained , they prob were not aware due to a total media blackout, when he first blew the whistle I still wasnt 100% aware that the MSM outlets were totally corrupt and entirely full of shit with almost every story they air , nor would I have imagined back then the media intentionally not covering a story that if further widespread and talked about would benefit the American people , I was much much more gullible and just simply not aware of just how badly and immensely we've all been lied to regarded just about everything our govt and MSM had told us as he first blew the whistle in I believe 2012 , my life and my person were much different back then and still a few years away from when I'd initially begin to slowly start to see through the lies and deception and wake up essentially as some say. This man is a true patriot and given how badly silicon valley and our govt both demonize him constantly really is working against them because that's simply causing the people to truelly see how deep the tyranny is rooted.
He is brilliant! I don’t much care for his politically correct ideology, but because he is tolerant, that is not a big problem with me. I am so thankful for the brave action he took to reveal the criminal activity of our gigantic government bureaucracies in the USA. My only issue with pardoning this man is that he doesn't need one. A pardon is for the guilty. He needs to be exonerated, because he did nothing wrong.
Funny thing is he didn't mention much of anything new. We all knew about the shit he mentioned decades before he whislteblew when he fled the states. He got the populace to at least acknowledge it and admit we weren't all "conspiracy theorists" though. And that's about it. Guess what happened though? Nothing. Nobody cares. He embarrassed the United States government on a global stage and then he evaded being captured by them so far. Assange and Manning are paying for this. Look at what they have already stolen from them in terms of quality of life and liberty. Before any court of any land has passed any judgment, in the case of Assange, a very real loss of innocence has occurred.
For this guy to turn his wonderful life upside down simply because of his morality and belief in the American people vs the abuses of certain govt practices speaks volumes on his character and who his parents are as unbelievable human beings! Much respect and salute to you for this, because many people know but very few, if any, will do what you have done sir!!! Big sacrifice!
His first Rogen appearance, he said something that stuck with me forever. He said he had to ask himself “what would it take for you to light the match and burn your life to the ground?” because he knew he’d be destroying his life by doing the right thing. Can’t even imagine the courage it took. The US owes him a massive apology and a hefty pay.
For everybody that has said, this man needs a pardon I disagree. A pardon implies he did something wrong in the first place. What should happen, is that all charges should be dropped and this man exonerated of any wrong doing with an apology given publicly for ruining this mans life.
I agree. I have thought that if Obama damned him, he is working for me. But, you are right. He really must have all charges dropped. And loads of mea culpa from idiots in government.

@@mr.palmer6778 Did you even watch the first 2 minutes of the podcast? Snowden and Rogan were talking about how most of the stuff Snowden exposed was illegal. And how Snowden might be pardoned. Bruh
This guy's actions directly resulted in the death of several government agents overseas. Which resulted in black operations failing. Which then resulted in literal tens thousands of people dying, over the past decade or so. Which I was lectured on by Snowden's commanding officer, at the time, when I made a similar point, being ignorant of why he is actually in trouble myself, as well. I get it is hard to connect these dots without exactly knowing what those black ops were, or why the US government was performing them. I am for the most part, still in that boat too... but if you think about it, and look into it, you'll probably be able to verify that this is actually quite likely the result of such a heavy government leak of information to foreign nations. I mean, why do you think Russia loves Snowden? Snowden is the best Russian spy in the history of the world, and they didn't even have to pay him. But yes, he does have some good ideas too. The truth is though, that morality is a social construct which when you follow, sometimes results in more immoral consequences than following basic moralities. Sometimes without the full extent of understanding for the moral actions, you are unaware of your immoral consequences... but that doesn't necessarily make you innocent. Good people sadly do bad things. Snowden is a great example of that. Brilliant good guy that fucked up very bad trying to do something he viewed as good, while being ignorant to the consequences.
Used to think he was arrogant. Read his book. Read the journalist's book. Saw the documentaries. He's the real deal. This is one of my favorite podcasts. Snowden is very intelligent more people should listen
He's one hell of a decent dude. Sacrifices a comfortable life, and then asks for pardons for others rather than himself. A humble man who gave up everything so we could know the truth.
He came from a family that I think kind of made him that man. His family had given their lives the same way, but for cost that they felt was worth paying, with a loyalty returned. And Edward is no less an individual. =)
I'm impressed that Snowden didn't spend a lot of time whining about what he lost, or talking about how awesome he is. His focus is on the mission, the message.

Something that I was taught in Infantry School, that I'm sure Ed also learned, is that if you are ever given an unlawful order, not only are you not required to carry it out, you are obliged to *disobey* it. It's pretty clear that this stayed with him on a conceptual level, either informing or reinforcing his decision to do what he did.
Yeah because an unlawful order can violate the Geneva Convention. But what is good is that the people who were forced against their will to do it arent punished, but the person who thought and wanted others to carry out the idea are punished

"Patriotism is not about loyalty to government....Patriotism is a constant effort to do good for the people of your country". - Edward Snowden
Voornaam Achternaam
Edward stolen comment
Straw man argument. No one says patriotism is loyalty to a government. And the idea that 'Patriotism is a constant effort to do good for the people of your country" is license for every nutcase to say whatever they believe is for the greater good. The people burning down buildings and rioting in the streets claimed it was for the good of the country, but tell that to the people who had their businesses and lives destroyed. Patriotism is meant to be love of home, love of your country. A patriot doesn't say "My country right or wrong" but will at least give their country the benefit of the doubt now and then. A lot of people could try doing that now and then.
The reigning, defending, UNDISPUTED Social Distancing Champion of the World...

Pardon! he should have been given the Congressional medal of Honor!
I would call him a world hero! It isnt just about America.. Many countries are the same and he is a shining light to us all
He shouldn't be pardoned as that requires a presupposed acceptance of guilt as it relates to a crime (i.e.: I pardon you for X and therefore you are no longer held criminally liable for X; meaning you did X) ; moreover he hasn't been tried in court so there been no finality to whether he has committed a crime or not. He should be exonerated of any charges if anything.

So why don't we get organised and do same for him????
That's called being a Patriot!
There are hundreds of thousands of interviews going into great detail about everything he talks about. Joe Rogans podcast reaches people that have no interest in this, people across the world, different races, sexes, religions, political views, on and on.
