    Hi Soham, thanks for the great video. I am self taught and of all the settings to make and use, this is the one I use successfully each time. As an aside, I don't even use calculations, and they still turn out quite well. Too bad you're in Australia, probably everyone wishes they could watch over your shoulder. Take care.

    Thank you! great tutorial. I Would love to see one on how to use pre-made step bezel and also have the video continue as you actually sett the stone. I assume it is the same as setting a cab where you push the bezel wire over the stone.

    Hey Soham! Just wondering how a step or prong bezel would work for a different shaped stone such as a triangle, pear, oval, square etc... If you have a link of how to make a prong bezel for faceted stone in one of those shapes that would be awesome!

    I've never seen anyone melt the solder from the top instead of trying to "pull" it through the join. Much easier that way!

    I was wondering if you could just solder a small wire to the inside edge of the outer bezel set in 1mm from the top edge as a resting edge for the stone rather than creating a double bezel?

    • @1soham1
      @1soham1  9 лет назад +1

      of course, it is just more difficult to get it straight and even.

    "Fantastic Videos" thank you! I am working on faceted bezels for earrings and this is exactly what I needed, as I never bezel set a faceted stone before. I was wondering, is there a preferred thickness of metal to be used for faceted stone bezels and if not what is your opinion on what works best.

    I am really happy at finding your videos. ..when it says 'copyright' does it mean that the video is copyrighted or the techniques? I wouldn't want to copy your designs verbatim but I do want to use the technical knowledge as courses for jewellers (silver/gold smithing) are extremely expensive in the UK unless you are a teenager or art student who is making a life career of it. I want to be able to work silver (and maybe gold) in the same manner as you do, as silver PMC has its limitations. .especially in which precious stones can be fired and I really needed to explore other ways of stone setting. Thanks for the wonderfully informative Videos. ..all I need now is a whole heap of technical tools. ..I have quite a few but the circular cutter etc and the rawhide Hammer are new to me...I have heaps of different pliars and general tools but I need to get quite a lot of files and there are pliers that you use that are different from the ones that I have. I will get there...where there's a will as the saying goes. ..

    Hi Soham, could you tell me if you have a tutorial for how to bezel a vertical walled stone? I have a hexagonal sodalite stone and I cannot find a tutorial on specifically straight walled stones. And also, I just made my first ever solder join, (playing with copper at the moment because it's cheaper) and your voice was going through my head the whole time. "When the flux goes clear out the solder will flow'. Thank you!!!!!

    • @sohamharrison
      @sohamharrison 10 лет назад +1

      you just have to make the bezel high enough to go over the top edge of the stone, 1/2 to 1mm.

  • @sohamharrison
    @sohamharrison 11 лет назад +7

    oval is easy,for the outer just add the length and the width, divide by2, add the thickness of the metal and multiply by 3.14, for the inner it is the same, but minus the thickness. pear you will have to form it around the stone

    What a lot of fuss about nothing - to measure the inner bezel use a pair of dividers - measure the height of the stone you are going to set, from the girdle to the culet - then read that measurement off next to a ruler - simples!

    Great tutorial. Are you using a anti oxidizer or boric acid solution? My silver always oxidizes every time I solder.

    • @sohamharrison
      @sohamharrison 10 лет назад

      use an antioxidant, many types are now available, but the boric acid and alcohol still works well.

    small stones you could go down to .3mm (28 gauge), personally i like .5mm (24 gauge) just be sure to use fine silver, or 22carat gold
